2.33 am, Cancun, Mexico

“I’mma head back down.” Quake says, “Don’t miss me too much, honey.”

Wave wordlessly admires the broad back of Quake as he rapidly retreats down the stairwell.

And he calls me the dramatic bitch, Wave says in her head with a smile tugging her lips.

Wave turns to double-check the barn that currently houses all 51 escapees, including the President’s granddaughters. As the now dead guard had attested, the barn was indeed unguarded. So everyone felt safe enough to reconnect with their loved ones in hugs and tears. Those without could only stand around, grateful for having escaped.

“Everyone!” Wave shouts, “Try looking for a radio or a phone.”

Mariah Ali translates to Spanish. Wave walks around with her AK47, scanning the poorly lit barn for anything to communicate with.

“Senora!” Javier shouts, waving their hands in the air.

“It’s Senorita!” Wave says as she runs to Javier.

Isabela is standing beside Javier, who is holding a standard black 2-way radio. Wave takes the radio from Javier then tries to operate it.

“Where’s Spectrum when you need him.” Wave says as she inspects it, “Still functional.”

Wave adjusts the frequency on the radio, trying different channels. All the channels are static.

“That’s odd.” Wave comments.

“What’s odd, Ms?” Isabela asks.

“No reception on any channel.” Wave answers with a pause, “...We are being jammed.”

“Then what do we do, Ms?” Isabela asks with panic in her face.

“We’ll head out.” Wave says, “There’s a drone overhead so that should gain their attention.”

Wave walks to a pair of barn doors and pushes them open. She scans around for danger.

“Alright, everyone out!” Wave shouts.

Mariah helps translate. The crowd gets moving.

Wave stands and stares up at the clouds.

I hope they get to the Old Man in time, Wave says in her head.
