The Uchiha Massacre – Part 5

Somewhere in the dark forests outside of Konoha, two people stood facing each other.

“Itachi …“ Shisui sighed.

Itachi faced his best friend that was missing one eye and had blood running down his face.

“I tried, Itachi. I really did. I wanted to save our Clan from certain death. You already know that they are planning a coup d´état. I thought that … with my Mangekyo Sharingan’s ability Kotoamatsukami, I would be able to stop them. To save them and the village. But, alas, Danzo stole one of my eyes because he did not trust me. I am powerless to solve our clan’s problems now and you know that. “ Shisui said while looking intently at Itachi.

Itachi kept quiet, waiting for his friend to continue speaking.

Shisui opened his mouth, only to close it again. He raised his hand to his other working eye and tore it out of its socket, not even wincing at the pain.

„Shisu, what?!“ Itachi couldn’t help but shout at his friend.

Shisui sighed:” The coup is unstoppable. Itachi … take my eye and please protect this village and the honor of the Uchiha. You are the only one I can trust!”

Itachi hesitated for a few seconds but made a raven take Shisui’s eye from the latters hand.

Shisui’s legs weakened and he took a step back, almost falling down the dark cliff behind him.

Shisui took one more step back and Itachi’s eyes widened.

„NO!“ He screamed inside of his mind.

Itachi rushed forward, trying to catch his best friend from falling to certain death.

However, he was too slow and too late.

“Itachi …. don’t stop me. If you are my friend, then … please keep on fighting for the village and the clan.” Shisui said before vanishing in the dark depths of the cliff.

“SHISUI!!” Itachi screamed as he felt his eyes burning.

Itachi couldn’t cry …. instead he felt something else run down his face. Blood. Red, dark red, blood.

Itachi had awakened the same eyes as his friend. The Mangekyo Sharingan.

A shadow appeared inside of a dark, dark cellar below the Uchiha compound.

Inside of this room, a mere two candles are lit next to a stone tablet.

Itachi had planned to see what exactly it held that made his father so obsessed with and convinced in his idea that the Uchiha were mistreated. His eyes widened as he activated his Mangekyo and read the lines he was able to.

“I’m sorry … Shisui … I don’t think I can save everyone.” Itachi said while looking at the sky. His eyes looked tired, weary … but, filled with endless resolve and great burden.

In a dark, lonely room, Itachi sat … in front of him, four elderly people.

This was the council of Konoha. A part of it were, most importantly, the third Hokage Hiruzen and Danzo, the leader of Root. The other two were advisors of the Hokage.

“The Uchiha Clan is intent on revolting against the village. I’m sure of it now.” Says Itachi while looking at the ground and kneeling on one knee.

“Sigh … how could it come to this? I wish to try to use words before violence. I’ll come up with a way!” Sighed Hiruzen.

[At the monument of Madara and Hashirama, the ancestors of Konohagakure]

“Itachi … you must choose. In order to protect the Leaf, every possible step must be taken to avoid mayhem! There is no one else but you, Itachi, that can do this now.” Danzo said.

“Exterminate the Uchiha …” Itachi mumbled under his breath.

“Will you accept this mission?” Danzo asked finally.

“Hey!” Itachi calls out to a masked man with long, raven black hair.

The masked man’s orange mask allowed for only his right eye to look through it.

“I want you to help me with something.” Itachi said, looking intently at the man standing before him.

After a few seconds of silence the man said: “Fine. I’m going to help you exterminate the Uchiha Clan but know that I have a different goal. I will also guarantee not to kill your little brother. Also … if you need a place to go after this, as you certainly will, join my organization.”

“Your organization?” Itachi asks, bewildered.

“Yes. The Akatsuki.” The masked man said in a deep voice.

[The night of the massacre]

Naruko and Naruto quickly return home after their first day of academy. Once home, they resolve to do some simple training like pushups and the like in order to train their muscles. Iruka had informed them that it would be highly beneficial towards their health and combat strength to start doing this every day. Though, they shouldn’t overwork themselves. He said that it would take time and determination combined with steady accumulation to become strong and that this was just the beginning of their path.

Naruko found herself enjoying this training with her brother.

They have been able to motivate each other and thus work even harder!

She didn’t like working on her body in her past life, but now that she had a body that she actually liked and come to love over the years, she decided that she would treat it well.

They soon finished, ate and finally went to sleep after a long day of experiencing many new things.

[Uchiha Police Station]

A masked man flashes across the village with what seemed like an eye technique.

Finally, he enters the Uchiha police station. At first, there was silence, but not for long.

Soon disturbing screams of pain and misery could be heard coming out of the huge building.

The screaming seemed to last forever … only to stop abruptly, as if nothing ever happened. The lights went out. No one was seen leaving.

[Uchiha Compound]

While the main family of the Uchiha Clan was celebrating young Sasuke’s enrollment into school, each other family for themselves had other things to celebrate too.

Itachi had prior to this excused himself by saying that he has a mission, which was, in fact, not wrong. Even doing that already hurt him, as he dearly wanted to celebrate with his brother … but, alas, his clan left him no other choice.

His mission was the extermination of the Uchiha Clan with the exception of Sasuke.

He agreed with Shisui. If no one else, then they should protect Konoha’s peace. They wanted to stop the rebellion, but they failed. Now he sincerely believed that Danzo’s idea was the only way to keep the peace.

Honestly, he did not like Danzo at all. Especially after he took Shisui’s eye. But, he needed Danzo to promise to keep Sasuke alive, at least his younger brother must live!

As he stood in front of the big doors leading into the compound, Itachi couldn’t help but sigh, his eyes looked incredibly tired and sad. He was already closed to tears, even before starting his bloody mission.

He was to kill his own family. To do that, he could only kill his heart.

He reached into his pouch and took out his Anbu mask. After putting it on, all emotion disappeared from his face and he shunshinned into the compound.

After that … again … only screams of pain, disbelief and misery could be heard for a long, long time.

It seemed as if demons had descended onto Konoha today. Two places in the village had screams coming from them. Two places were filled with blood.

The sounds of celebration and laughter faded as quickly as they had started.

Itachi soon left the compound after killing the last two people he was supposed to kill today.

His mother … and his father. They … did not even resist. His father said: “Itachi … I’m proud of you. Even if our ideas differed … I cannot fight you, ever. Thus … I beg of you … take care of your brother … alright?”

His father said that while never looking into Itachi’s eyes, only looking straight forward without any apparent emotion on his face.

For a while after that, only the sound of sobbing could be heard.

“Itachi, you truly are a kind boy.” Itachi’s father said.

With tears streaming down his face, Itachi swung his blade and killed the two people that raised him. The two people that, while his father was slightly bad at showing it, had loved him, so, so much.

Itachi disappeared as soon as the door opened to reveal an already crying Sasuke.

Sasuke ran up to the two bloodied bodies of his parents.

At first … he couldn’t believe his eyes.

Weren’t we all together a few minutes ago? Didn’t we have a reason to celebrate?

Did I not get a step closer towards my brother’s greatness? Did I not make them proud?

How come … how come they are ….

I fell onto my knees … unable to keep standing any longer.

I felt tears gather inside of my eyes and soon they streamed uncontrollably down my face.

I grasped my parents’ hands and knelt into their bodies … uncaring of the blood sticking onto my face and body.

They were already slowly losing their warmth … just like the uncles and aunties of mine outside …

“W-Who … could have done something like this?!” Sasuke screamed, while sobbing into his mother’s, now already cold, embrace.

Suddenly he heard a quiet sound of footsteps on a pathway inside of the compound.

Quickly and without fear he rushed out of the room, onto the roof and jumped down onto the path where the sounds had come from.

As he raised his eyes, they fell upon the figure standing before him.

He wore … the signature black Anbu clothing.

He had the same hair as his Nii-san did.

When the man turned around … he finally got a good look of the other’s face.

“Itachi-nii … why?” Sasuke asked … holding one hand to his face in an attempt to stop his tears.

“You wouldn’t understand. Let’s just say, I did this to test my power. And, honestly, they were weak. Especially mother and father. And, guess what, you are so weak that you aren’t even worth my time.” Itachi said, while showing no emotion on his face.

“What?!” Sasuke screamed, he just could not grasp the change his brother showed.

The person standing before him was not the kind brother he had come to know in the last 6 years of his life.

Sasuke watched the pattern in his brother’s eyes change. It was a new one, one he did not know.

His father had already taught him about the Sharingan and he had seen drawings for the three stages of the Sharingan.

Apparently … there was one that he did not know of yet.

This just meant that the gap between his brother and him was just that much bigger than he thought.

“One day, when you have the same eyes as I do, come for me! You will then, and only then, have a chance at revenge!” Itachi said, before turning around and walking away … totally disregarding his little brother’s quiet sobbing.

After Itachi left, Sasuke remembered all that he knew about his brother.

The images he saw today and the ones he had seen all these years did not match. Not at all. It was as if the Itachi he had soon today was someone totally different.

Sasuke looked onto the ground, his eyes widened with rage, despair and hatred.

“Wait!” Sasuke screamed as he rushed after the killer of his Clan, his family.

Sasuke threw three kunai at his brother’s leaving form.

Two were easily deflected by Itachi, the last one, however, hit his hitai-ate (his forehead protector) and caused it to fall to the ground.

Sasuke rushed after Itachi, only to come to a stop when Itachi bent down to grab his fallen hitai-ate to once again tie it on his head.

When Itachi was done with that, he turned around and faced Sasuke with his eyes widened. His eyes, his Mangekyo was focused on his brother.

Itachi looked evil, menacing. His whole being screamed “Threat”.

But Sasuke looked him straight into the eyes, not even fearing the possibility of being put under a genjutsu.

*drip*

Sasuke was bewildered at what happened next.

Tears flowed down Itachi’s face, he could not hide behind his emotionless mask, trained in the Anbu, any longer.

Itachi then turned around and disappeared into the night sky.

Sasuke looked at the place where his brother stood before for a long, long time.

He just could not believe what happened.

After some time … one could see Sasuke coughing up blood from the intense anger and hatred he was feeling.

He could not bear standing upright any longer and fell onto his back.

“ITACHI! I WILL KILL YOU!!!!” He screamed before finally falling into unconsciousness.

Hiruzen and Danzo walked through the council building and into a secluded, underground area.

In front of them, stood two rows of masked men. Anbu and Root.

“My men will go the Compound!” Said Hiruzen, before leaving.

“My men will go to the police station.” Said Danzo with no emotion in his voice.

Itachi had gone to report to the leaders of Konoha.

Hiruzen looked at the emotionless young man in front of him and said: “I’m sorry that it could not have been handled differently. It was my weakness and tolerance towards Danzo’s actions that caused this.”

“No, Hokage-sama, it was not your fault …” Itachi said.

“Itachi … it is entirely my fault. Had I not been this weak and indecisive, we could have avoided this bloodshed.” Hiruzen sighed.

“I’ll make sure to keep your brother alive, I will see to it that he will become a splendid shinobi. But, as you must already know, I will never be able to resolve the hatred he will have for you!” Hiruzen said with finality.

“Yes, that I know. But as long as he lives and becomes strong enough to survive … I have nothing else to ask for.”

After that, Itachi bowed and left.

[At the Compound]

“We found a survivor!” One female Anbu shouted.

“Bring him to the medical-nin.” Hiruzen said, clearly knowing that it was Sasuke.

[At the Police Station]

“Danzo-sama, the body count does not match up!” One root member said.

“What?” Danzo looked bewildered.

“I have seen everything … should you even only try to touch my little brother … I will supply the council with classified information of your organization!” The other “Root Member” said to Danzo before flashing him his Mangekyo and vanishing into thin air.

“Why you!?” Danzo shouted.

All the while chaos ensued in the city; most citizens did not even hear a single sound.

Most only knew that the feared Uchiha-Clan had been exterminated by one person … the family-killer, Itachi Uchiha, formerly known as the top genius of his Clan. They also knew that only one single person survived, Itachi’s little brother, Sasuke Uchiha.

A few days after the massacre, Naruko finally figured out just what felt off about Sasuke when she saw him again.

“He missed hatred that day … but now … yes, this is the Sasuke I remember.” Naruko thought while looking at the boy with bags under his eyes. His face was warped in hatred and anger, but that only caused the girls to be all over him even more.

Naruko almost pitied him, as he had to deal with screaming girls every single day.

She does not know if she could stay as calm as he did, if she were faced with a large group of girls pining for his affections like they did. Especially if her own family had just been killed and by her own brother too!

What Naruko did not notice, however, was that whenever she had just stopped looking at Sasuke, he turned to look at her.

Maybe because he felt her gaze on him, but his slightly blush-filled face suggested otherwise.

His eyes held no hate when he looked at her, only genuine interest.

Across the years … this only intensified. Naruko did not notice a thing though.

She never even considered that anyone would look at her like that. The only thing she did in class was listen to the sensei’s and do her work. When she finished, she laid down on her desk facing her brother.

She watched him struggle with most things, but he never ceased working hard.

Naruko did not like answering the teacher’s questions … but whenever she was asked, she was able to answer them. Because, let’s be honest. This was grade school level math and stuff.

Sure, the history was a bother to learn, so there were certain things he did not know, but math? They really taught only simple stuff here and most did not really need any of that in their daily lives.

Shinobi needed to know how fight and how to kill.

Sometimes the children were given animals to kill, in order to get them used to seeing blood and used to causing that bloodshed.

Naruko felt uncomfortable killing small rabbits and she would feel unwell for days after killing one of them.

However, she never not killed them. She just did what everyone else did, she still feared causing scenes, just like she did in her past life.

She just wanted to fit in and not attract too much attention to herself.

She made sure to quickly end the rabbit’s life by causing it’s heart to stop beating by inserting chakra into its small body.

The rabbit felt no pain and passed away before the blade even touched its fur.

Some sensei noticed this, but she was never reprimanded for her actions.

They simply did not care as long as she killed and spilled blood. They only needed to know that she could follow the orders and do what was needed. Of course, they also knew that killing animals could never be equal to killing humans. That would be an entirely different experience for the young students.

On the tests, Sasuke was always first for the boys and Sakura first for the girls.

Naruko never bothered about them, only doing enough to be average.

She was satisfied with spending her days with her brother … in peace.

They soon learned about basic taijutsu, genjutsu and ninjutsu. Especially the cloning technique and the transformation technique.

Naruto had always had problems with the cloning technique. Naruko, however, could do them perfectly on the first day after learning the hand signs. In fact, she did not need them. She could have done them without the hand signs, but they helped her focus her intent and will into her chakra. She could feel that Naruto’s problem lied in his chakra control, thus she taught him to practice sticking leaves to his body.

She did not need to do any exercises concerning chakra as she already had an inborn perfect control.

Gradually her body became more and more chakra beast and less and less human.

Her human cells were reformed and infused with her chakra. Essentially, her human body was gradually replaced with her chakra.

(A/N: I sincerely hope that this was understandable. I have a clear image of the process in my mind, but I’m not sure whether I was able to properly bring it across.)

At the age of twelve, she could already use most of her bijuu abilites, but she opted to hiding them, as to not reveal anything about her real self. Especially Naruto must not know yet.

She also learned to conceal her chakra signature. Any good sensor would have been able to feel the overwhelming presence of her nearly endless chakra. She concealed her mass of chakra and instead opted to show only as much as her brother had, it was known for jinchuurikis to have larger chakra pools after all, so she figured it would be fine to make her own seem as big, albeit a bit smaller, than her Naruto’s chakra pool. She then let it grow along with his.

Her body was now close to being all chakra beast and her human form had become perfectly interchangeable with her golden fox form.

She had practiced changing her form deep inside the forest outside of Konoha. As far as she knew, nobody had ever seen that. Especially since her ability to sense chakra skyrocketed with the amount of chakra her body held. It was almost impossible to hide from if she fully focused on her surroundings.

She opted to change into a small, not even one meter big, form of her golden fox appearance.

It was a small, cute and huggable form. Just as she liked it.

In addition to all that, she also had the ability to sense malicious intent, just like her big brother Kurama.

A/N: I’m already working on the next chapter. I’ve planned for it to explain the results of their 6-years spent in the academy and other developments around the Naruto universe. Of course, the characters might not know about these events that happened, but it will give the story a bit more background information, I guess.
