Warning this is another heavy chapter that will show a confrontation between a new parent and child, missed opportunities, and having a new beginning. This adds nothing special to the story overall ( except an update on Takitos status at the bottom), but holds some more back story of Tokitos' past, so if you're not comfortable and want to skip it please do so at your own discretion. You have been warned.

Three days later....

<Calamity's POV> 

I've found Tokito has been silent the last three days, it's becoming very worrisome. He hasn't said a word since he cried after putting his hand in the fire. I understand he might've felt a little pain, but nothing too serious should've caused him to cry. Being a Dgin, he doesn't need to worry about healing. And being half qaubet, his skin should be too tough to be burnt heavily. I mean, he's done what he's appropriately doing what need to get done by creating more clothes and finding food. He's followed instructions without questioning obtaining a few mana and attack skills, and continues to do basic exercises to build a little muscle mass and gain speed. However, he's just going through the motions and acts like a zombie. I'm trying not to invade his more private thoughts, but at this rate I won't have a choice. Maybe Berry might get through to him. He has been making sure that Tokito eats, lest he forget. And so far, he's brought Tokito Tanto for his meals and a furry cactus that's been used to make shoes. However, unless he's bored or just feeling hungry, Berry doesn't say much.

My thought's planned out, I see Berry sitting on has fat arse near the snakes former nest. I talk directly into his head.

'Ssssppptttt, Berry this is Calamity. Don't look at me or speak out loud, just listen. Berry, ask Tokito how he's feeling, but do it in a subtle way so he won't feel worse. Tokito's acts like he's in mourning, but there shouldn't be any reason for that. Ask if he's okay.'

Berrys' eyes twitch at the invasion of his mind, but ignores it, bringing up a trunk up of leaves to munch on. 

He responds back , '..... you know, as the person who adopted the tiny one, shouldn't you ask that question? Wouldn't it be more strange if I were to ask that instead of you, the parent ? As the person who wants to be his confidant, I believe you should be the one to ask after his well being, not me. Besides, right now he thinks nothing much of me, except for a bodyguard. Our relationship might change with time, but if I were to ask those questions now, it wouldn't help any of us. He'd simply shrug me off .....or worse. So to that I will simply watch from afar as you talk to your son ......and this time I will not interrupt your intimate conversation.'

Finishing his leaves, Berry walks into the jungle stomping bushes, knocking over trees, and destroying anything else in his path.

  Stunned, Calamity opens its eye wide, enrages at what transpired, 'oh when I get the chance I will curse that blob of gold fat into oblivion.' 

Feeling indignation, Calamity tried to calm down enough, as to not accidentally harm Tokito. Seeing Tokito sitting down from its laying on his neck, it determined on what was needed to be said, 

" Tokito are you ok? You  haven't been talking about your survival nature documentaries or the books you like. Have you been having any internal body issues? I know males your age go through-" then I feel a slap on my eye. 

Unable to see his face, I listen to Tokito say depressingly, "....... I'm fine Calamity I just need time..." he stops there abruptly. 

I nearly bite him in frustration for trying to keep me quiet, but I don't. I sink into thought, is this how parents feel when trying to talk to their children? I broach the matter directly, "my son, my child, my little one, please tell me; what is wrong?" The hand covering my face tugs at me, trying to pull me off. I hear crying, the hand scratches me. Not angered or in pain from the futile attempts to remove me, I do nothing and simply wait for him to calm down. 

Tokito slowly stops trying to pull me off his neck, begins his woes.  

He says in a sniffling raspy voice, "buuu.... sniff...how is any of this fair?! I may have not wanted to be part of society, but that didn't mean I didn't want to be part of the world! I still had so much to see, touch, and feel back in my world. Now I can no longer visit any of the places they made plans for! I can't see if there could've been chances for anything else.... sniff..I can no longer visit them! Gaaaahh.... cough... sniff..." Tokito wipes his tears and blows his nose into a dried up Tantos skin.

Listening, I understand what he's been going through. I want to hug him, but my cold tendrils wouldn't be able to soothe his aching heart, what should I do? Instead of a hug, I push a tendril through the gaps betwixt his fingers, stroke and pat his back. 

"I'm sorry Tokito. I only did what I thought was best at the time. If I didn't take you when we met you would have simply died a few years later. I know I will never be able to replace your parents, but someday I hope you can consider me your family." I express in my most gentlest voice.

Stroking his back, Tokito cries and sobs for a long time, until finally, slowing to soft tears and  whimpers. 

"Sniff .....I'm fine Calamity, it's not your fault for what happened. You were simply in the right place at the right time. I should be grateful  you saved me from that hospital bed. But it's going to take time for me to process I can no longer see my parents grave, nor do any of our planned family trip that we thought up together.... we planned many different camping trips and tourist trips for vacations." 

Tokito stops for brief moment, looks off into the distance. He continues, "The day my parents went to the bank was to make sure we were financially set. We weren't a poor family, but we weren't rich either. Mom and dad went to the bank to put last checks into their accounts before coming to pick me up from school. That same day, their bank was to be robbed-" Tokito goes on to say the robbers were angry for some reason (probably didn't get as much money as they hoped) and his parents were simply in the way. 

He stops whimpering and slowly removes his hand from me, tells me I didn't need to stroke his back anymore.  

Smiling, in a steady tone, "I hope you feel better Tokito and know if ever you feel down,  please say something to me." I pat his cheek and smirk showing some of my pearly white teeth. "I will gladly listen to anything bothering you.... with that being said it's time to continue your training. Don't give me that look of surprise. I may be only your step parent, but I'm still your parent. Come on, doing some mana exercises will do you good."

Calamity has finally decided to update Tokito's status again. It is trying to be a understanding step parent...
