CHAPTER 27: CRIMSON DRAGONFLY

ALPHONSE FARADEISS

2 ½ YEARS AGO

It is really the Monolith Dragon AKA the Crimson Dragonfly. It is named as such for having dragonfly-like cybernetic wings. This is not an ordinary insect to play with though unlike normal dragonflies, for this thing was the reason why Vanilla City was annihilated to crisps.

Now I know how the Crimson Dragonfly was created. It is a Dracaryx; a powerful spell granted to Vesryn Pulse users. Dracaryxes vary from the bond of a human and a Dragonoid, and it causes different special spells based on the synchronization of their hearts. Since Zac Schneider is not a dragon knight, he used a heart-altering drug to match the heartbeats of his dragonoid bitches. Zac’s Dracaryx with the two dragonoids made the magical fusion possible; thus creating the Monolith Dragon.

We can see Zac Schneider at the forehead of the Monolith Dragon. He is encased in a glass-like futuristic barrier, and he’s still sitting on his throne-like how a lazy jackass he is.

Our dragons flew until we made a safe distance away from the Monolith Dragon.

“Dracaryx only lasts for a short period of time,” I shouted to my fellow dragon knight Xenon. “Once the duration is over, his dragonoid maids will have their hearts stop beating, which will cancel out the Vesryn Pulse. We need to pressure him until the timer runs out.”

“Roger that.” Xenon said as he transformed his shield back to two buster swords. “I’ll take point on attack, and you focus on defense!”

“Fuck off, Xenon!” I shouted back. “Go back to shield! You go defense, I’ll do offense!”

“But I’m stronger.” Xenon argued back.

“I’m faster,” I said.

“I’m better looking.” Xenon said with a poker face. What the heck does it relate to being an attacker and defender in this dragon battle?

“I got a bigger dick.” I made a smug to the prick. "Yeah? Top that, bitch!"

Suddenly, the Monolith Dragon charged blue photon beams from its mouth and unleashed it forward, to our direction. With our dragon’s reflexes and talented maneuvers, we evaded the blaster that can reduce us to ashes. City blocks burned in the background as the photon laser carved trenches on the ground.

“Now is not the time to argue!” Z telepathically said it to me. “We’ll attack first!”

Suddenly, my Elemental Dragon boosted forward, leaving only lighting trails from its tail. Now that we have made the initiative, Xenon will be forced to stay on the defense.

“Hraaaagh!”

My Elemental Dragon sharpened its red and green wings, and it coated itself with fire and wind magical enhancement. With our extreme jet speed, we slashed through the Crimson Dragonfly’s neck. Since the Crimson Dragonfly is huge, its reaction time would be sluggish, making us able to land our attacks if we fly quickly.

Alas, the thick futuristic armor is covering the giant dragon whole. All we did is to melt and slice a part of the metal plate guarding its neck.

“Damn it!” I cried.

“RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHHHH!!!”

The Crimson Dragonfly is ready for a counter-attack. Its giant right claw smashed, creating a wind pressure that would slash me and my dragonoid. But in the nick of time, Xenon and his Nexus Dragon intercepted the attack with his expanded shield that can cover up a house. The sturdy shield neutralized the intense wind pressure we’re supposed to take.

“See? You’re better off with a fucking shield!” I mocked.

“Shut up.” Xenon replied.

The Monolith Dragon didn’t stop with that claw smash. It opened its jaw, charged a massive particle ball on its mouth. But before it could be fired, giant hatchets of about two meters in length flew like a boomerang and hit the giant dragon’s cheek. Now the hatchets are stuck on the Monolith Dragon’s face.

“GRAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!” The Crimson Dragonfly cried.

“Backup is here!” Our team captain proclaimed.

The one who shouted is none other than Kevin Valesmith, the leader of this operation. He is a guy with a dark complexion, wearing his usual yellow tuxedo with several armor enhancements and he’s also wielding a giant hammer.

Captain Kevin Valesmith is riding a powerful dragon, which is a brown, eight meter-tall lizard walking on two feet. Unlike most dragons, it is incapable of flight for it has no wings. Even the giant red cape tied on this dragon’s neck won’t give it the ability to fly. Instead, it is covered with golden warrior’s armor similar to a spartan to compensate for its lost features. It is also wielding two throwing axes, and there are similar giant weapons stuck on its back. It is a Warlord Dragon.

Suddenly, the Monolith Dragon spread out its four cybernetic wings. With a powerful earth-shaking shockwave, it flapped its wings and levitated from the ground. It flew like a super rocket, which is astounding for a fifty-meter tall dragon to fly that fast. It raised altitude until it reached the stratosphere, and charged a photon ball from its mouth. The miniature sun it created made everything so damn bright as if the time is not midnight at all.

“It’s doing it again!” Captain Valesmith shouted. “That attack is the one that swept the whole Vanilla City and turned it into a giant crater! If we don’t stop that attack, everyone will die!”

“I’m on it.” Xenon said.

The next thing he did was amazing, and it’s a pain to admit it for a perfectionist like me. Xenon clapped his hand and touched his Nexus Dragon’s head. His arms glowed with cybernetic blue circuits as he did those, and those circuits flowed through his dragon’s head, neck, arms, stomach, feet, and all the way to the tip of its tail. As the whole existence of his Nexus Dragon was engulfed with Xenon’s magical energy, Xenon shouted a spell.

“Limiter Removal, Exceed. Forge into a sturdy shield.”

The Nexus Dragon’s crimson eyes glowed as thick armor plates covered its whole body. Now it looks like a white-and-blue mechanical robot that can be seen on TV shows. A halo on top of the Nexus Dragon’s head was forged into existence, and it was those in the shape of a shield. Serena is no longer a plain Nexus Dragon. She evolved into a dragon that is sturdier than any steel or diamond. She is now a Nexus Barrier Dragon.

The moment the Nexus Barrier Dragon appeared, the Crimson Dragonfly has already charged up its photon ball, which contains enough energy to burn the whole Amnesia City. The heavens shattered as soon as it unleashed its powerful blast, tearing off clouds that intercepted its way.

“Serena!” Xenon shouted.

“Fwaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!” The Nexus Barrier Dragon unleashed a red orb from its mouth. As soon as it was sixty meters up high away from the dragon, the red orb exploded like fireworks, revealing a sakura-shaped prism energy barrier that is enough to cover up the central part of the city.

A deafening explosion similar to an erupting volcano echoed on the surroundings as soon as the photon blaster and the flower-shaped barrier collided. The giant laser was perfectly neutralized by the sakura shield, converting the excess energy into glittering snowflakes that showered from the skies. It is truly a magnificent and beautiful phenomenon if only you can set aside that the photon particle showers are meant to annihilate us all.

It took twenty-two seconds until the Crimson Dragonfly ran out of fumes and stopped producing giant laser from its mouth. Now the gigantic dragon is losing altitude as if it no longer has the energy to maintain flying in the stratosphere.

Meanwhile, Xenon and his Nexus Barrier Dragon landed on a rooftop of a building. Xenon exhaled massive smoke from his nose and mouth, and his dragon did the same. It looks like they also used their spare energy just to block the attack. It’s clear that they are both exhausted. If ever they use that sakura shield magic again, their magical energy would fry their own bodies.

“Nice block, superstar.” I praised my fellow dragon knight.

“I did my job. Now do yours.” Xenon made a smart-aleck smile.

“Don’t worry, mate. I’ll finish this with one good ass beating.”

I looked up in the skies and saw the Crimson Dragonfly quickly descending. It’s not falling, but planning on landing with its feet. It is still capable of fighting even though it won’t be using any photon beam as of the moment, and there are no signs of the deactivation of the Dracaryx.

I held my glowing heart, feeling the intense pumping of my heart. I listened to the same heartbeats of my dragon as I tightened my resolve to fight and finish the enemy.

The Monolith Dragon finally landed, causing a weak earthquake around the area. The ground cracked and it looks like it’s on the verge of collapsing. Its dragonfly high-tech wings dematerialized, and now Crimson Dragonfly is nothing but a gigantic armored lizard standing on two feet. Now that it’s on the ground, it’s ready to fall down once and for all.

I opened my mouth and shouted my ultimate attack!

“Dracaryx! Activate Dance of the Five Elements!”
