CHAPTER 123: IMMORTAL DUO

XENON WINGATE

PRESENT DAY - 4 HOURS BEFORE THE ACTIVATION OF THE PSYCHIC AMPLIFIER

We are going at a sonic speed that we immediately made it to the island in almost no time at all. We are hovering above the vast cherry blossom trees, looking for any signs of the Psychic Amplifier. As of the moment, all we can see are pink leaves, petals and other floras that show a little to no hint of the spiraling tower. There are heavy mists in the stratosphere, and the sakura petals are randomly flying around. It makes it a little bit harder to locate.

“Keep going, Senors.” Danielle talked to us using the earpiece radio. “Proceed straight. You should be able to see it right now.”

“We can’t see it. The heavy fog and the flying petals are on our way. We can’t speed up any further.” I said.

“Let’s clear the fucking mist,” Alphonse said as he spread out his arms. His Elemental Dragon halted in midair, expanding its wingspan as it gathers wind energy. With a single powerful flap, a tornado was made, splitting the mist into half in a wide area of effect. Finally, the air has been cleaned but there is one problem. 

There are enemies waiting for us. Just a few meters away, there are two dragon knights with the highest honors that came from Elysia. 

The first dragon is a peculiar lizard with a humanoid body, dark scales, and red skin. It has two devil horns curling on its head, and it has a dark Halloween cape as wings. This dragon of darkness has this noticeably large upper and lower fangs which make it obvious that it is a Vampire Dragon.

The second dragon is not covered with scales but instead covered with dark brown fur. It has a head that is similar to a wolf, and its tail is similar to a jackal. It has paws and claws that look like a mutated form of a bear’s, and it has the same fangs as those of a canine. Its wings are like those of a bat, except that it’s a little bit fluffier. It’s a Werewolf Dragon.

The dragon knights who are riding the Vampire Dragon and the Werewolf Dragon looked like identical twins. They both have this spiky pineapple-haircut, white complexion, slightly-malnourished and short body build. I have heard of this duo ever since high school, and they are one of the most powerful dragon knights in Elysia, matching those of a Pentagram Knight. 

“Welcome, intruders! We are here to defend the secrets of this Cherry Island as ordered by Emperor Michael Eldritch!” One of the knights said. “You should now leave the premises, or you will die!”

“My name is Kenneth, and this is my twin Emman! We are the Immortal Knights, and we can never be defeated nor killed!” The other knight said. “This is your last warning! We will not hesitate to use force!”

I looked at Alphonse, and he looked at me. Both of us nodded on one another, and then we looked at our dragons. Those enemy dragon knights mean no threat to us. We have no time and place to waste, as the Psychic Amplifier is doomed to activate in a couple of hours.

“Let’s finish this fucking quick, Z!” Alphonse said. As soon as Alphonse made his declaration of battle, his Elemental Dragon spread its multicolored wings once again and gathered the power of the thousand elements. “Rainbow Surge!”

In a blink of an eye, the Elemental Dragon dashed with lightspeed and slashed through the Vampire Dragon’s central body, immediately destroying its midriff all the way to its feet. The lower part of the dragon immediately vaporized as soon as it was detached on the enemy. It was a quick victory for him, not until we realized that the Vampire Dragon can regenerate almost immediately.

“Hahaha! Futile! I have told you before, didn’t I?” The enemy dragon knight laughed. “We are immortals!”

Without wasting any moment and grabbing the opportunity while the enemy brags and talked, I drew out my rifle from my back and sniped through the Werewolf Dragon’s master. I cleanly hit the dragon knight’s forehead and chest, which means it should be a quick and painless death.

However, the dragon knight I shot raised his body up. His gunshot wound immediately closed the moment he opened his eyes. “Fool! We knights are immortal too! Since we are connected by the power of the Vesryn Pulse, we can borrow our dragon’s immortality! There is no way you can defeat us!”

Suddenly, the Vampire Dragon opened its mouth and unleashed red nail-like projectiles from its very throat. “Bloodspike Missiles!” All of those projectiles were targeted to me and my dragon, so I immediately had Serena use her evasive maneuvers to avoid being hit.

“Wolf Rage!” The dragon knight of the Werewolf Dragon shouted, and both he and his dragon glowed with a red aura. With such a boost in power, they surged towards Alphonse and Elemental Dragon with blinding speed. But since the Elemental Dragon in Rainbow Form has one of the quickest reaction times, they managed to evade the Werewolf Dragon’s claw attacks.

“This is quite problematic,” I muttered, only my dragon could hear my words. We don’t have time to deal with these clowns. The more we stay pinned down on this very place, the more chance they will win this fight. All they need is to stall us until the Psychic Amplifier activates. We have to settle this quickly, but I don’t know how to defeat these immortal beings.

As my dragon kept her distance away from the Vampire Dragon, we watched how Alphonse and his Elemental Dragon is doing. After the barrages of claw attacks from the Werewolf Dragon, Alphonse made a counterattack by wrapping the enemy dragon with his chains. Then, the Elemental Dragon flapped its wings and unleashed silver glitters that bathed the Werewolf Dragon.

“Graaaaaaaaahhhh!!!” The Werewolf Dragon cried in pain as its body quickly evaporated. The dragon failed to regenerate its lost limbs. The special silver glitters may have an effect after all.

“Shiiiiit!!! Aaaaaaahhhh!!!” The dragon knight immediately fell down as soon as his Werewolf Dragon vaporized. Having about fifty meters of fall, I reckon that guy will not survive.  

I was surprised at how Alphonse and Z made their own victory. What was with that silver glitters that they unleashed?

“Silver!” Alphonse shouted at me. “Xenon, use your fucking head for once! These dragons are weak against silver!”

“...Oh… Right.” I said. I focused my energy on my right hand as I muttered “Forge”, materializing a lance that is one-hundred-percent silver.

“Ha! I will not let you hit us with that!” The dragon knight of the Vampire Dragon laughed to hide his fear. He then pointed his sword towards us as he commanded his dragon to launch red balls from its mouth. “Blood Bomb!”

“Boost on!” I commanded my Nexus Booster Dragon to dash straight towards the enemy. As we approach closer to the gigantic blood ball, I used my futuretech glove to create a wide tower shield that covered ninety-percent of my dragon’s body. I received the projectile head-on and completely repelled the attack. “Haaaaaaaaah!!!”

“What the-!!!” Those were the enemy dragon knight’s words the moment we have already made its way towards him. In a blink of an eye, I delivered a fatal blow by stabbing the silver lance directly to the Vampire Dragon’s heart.

“Graaaaaahhhhh!!!” The Vampire Dragon made its final crying roar as its body quickly disintegrated into ashes. 

Before the dragon knight fell down from the sky, my Nexus Booster Dragon gently grabbed him with her claws. It’s not surprising for me to have Serena being too kind to her enemies. This might be war, but for now, I will allow some of her kindness to prevail.

I would like to interrogate the captured dragon knight first, but it seemed unnecessary. Alphonse immediately grabbed my attention as he pointed out at the far northern part of the sky. “Xenon, look!”

At that very direction, I can see a golden brown spiraling tower that reaches the skies. It goes way above the clouds, and I think it goes way past the atmosphere of this planet. It is the true and original Psychic Amplifier, and it looks a lot bigger than I have last seen. It seems to grow bigger as time runs out for its activation.

“Let’s go!”

Our dragons boosted forward until we finally made it to the foot of the gigantic spiraling tower. Surprisingly, there are no more defenses at this very place. Seeing that the landing area is clear, my Nexus Booster Dragon gently laid down the captive dragon knight and let him run for his life. We’ll let him go, as he doesn't serve as a threat to us anymore.

The spiraling tower is as wide and thick as four city blocks. Bombarding it immediately would be the first course of action, but we think our firepower’s not enough. We haven’t tried it yet, but both I and Alphonse had the same conclusion not to try. It looks like this thing is beyond our capabilities. We need to conserve our energy and report to our allies first. 

Alphonse and I immediately disabled the Vesryn Pulse, making our dragons go back to their default human form. We need Serena and Z to grab this peaceful moment to rest even for a couple of minutes. There’s roughly three hours before the activation of the Psychic Amplifier, so we can still brainstorm on what to do.

“Baseplate, this is Sir Faradeiss.” Alphonse talked to the headquarters via his earpiece. “We are now on the foot of the tower, over.”

“Copy that, Senor,” Danielle answered. “The fleet has finished neutralizing the threats. Please wait for the Pentagram Knights and the airships to approach your location. Wait for further instructions. Out.”

Judging from the distance, our allies should be ten minutes away from here. We can have more time to look at the spiral pillar as we wait for them. We can study on how to destroy this world-ender device for this short amount of time.

“So, how are we supposed to demolish this fucking thing?” Alphonse said as he gazed upon the scriptures in the pillar. “I can sense a strong magical shield wrapping this tower, and it all goes way down below. Simple bombs and magic attacks might not work.”

“I don’t know.” I shrugged.
