Chapter 52

It had been a week since Klaus broke the hybrid curse, and since then, I had not seen or heard from him or Elijah, though I assumed that would change soon. A few vampires that had come with Elijah had stuck around town, though they remained at a distance, trying not to draw attention to themselves. Though none of them seemed as though they would not do anything hostile, well not until Klaus or Elijah returned. Perhaps if I worked quickly, I could turn a few of them over to my side.

I made a daylight ring for Elena, a silver ring inlaid with lapiz, her name carved on the inside, complementing the intricate pattern on the other side. I also kept up with training her, she seemed to get used to her vampiric abilities extremely quickly. Especially with the other vampires in my home training with her, soon enough she could use all her abilities near perfectly. Though she was still very far off from her powers being enough to allow her to fight against other vampires.

Thankfully, the ritual being completed was the main step in taking the first threat off the board. Once Klaus was subdued, I would just have to deal with the litany of other threats that always seemed to pop up, Silas, Qetsiyah, Arcadius, Daliah and an endless amount of others. Even gods themselves would stand against my family and need to be killed. Though with each I struck down I would grow stronger and perhaps even gain improved or new abilities like defeating the dragon had. So having to fight them would not be without reward though some of them would potentially cause me trouble.

Over the last week of relative peace, I finally set up the supernatural club, many of Pearls' vampires visiting, starting what would hopefully be a several-century-spanning business. Just like the other private clubs for supernaturals over Europe that I had established. Once Hayley returned, I would introduce her to the club, hopefully inviting werewolves to attend, and with a bit of luck, it might start to fix the centuries of hate between the species.

"Father", the familiar voice of Alexandria once again broke me out of my thoughts. I looked up at the vampire, "Come with me to town, I need to grab a few things, and we haven't spent much time together recently,", she stated before walking towards the door. I was not too surprised by her words, I was not too busy and getting out of the house was probably a good idea, and I could never complain about spending time with Alexandria.

I picked up the keys to my Chevy Impala and left following Alexandria. She was already waiting inside the car, and finally, I got to drive the beautiful machine again. Seeing it in a show I watched in my previous life, it was love at first sight, and when I found one for sale about three years ago, I could not pass up the opportunity to get it. Though I still preferred horses as a mode of transport, using a horse today would probably draw far too much attention.

Driving through town was nice, the town, like always, was quite busy, though the roads remained almost empty. With the several miles of woods surrounding it, it separates the town from our house and provides a scenic route into town. One thing I noticed on the way here was the fact that the Salvatores seemed to be rebuilding their house after I burned it down. Though it seemed to be far away from being completely rebuilt, hopefully Zack would not get any more vervain plants, otherwise the building may find itself burnt down again.

I looked around seeing many familiar faces, vampires wearing daylight rings dotted the main square. Each one of them seems to be doing their best to slip into their new lives in the small town. Even the few that had joined the sheriff department patrolled the town, seemingly enjoying their new role. I had to give it to Pearl, she was doing a very good job at keeping the vampires under her in line. Each time one of them saw me, they simply gave me a nod of acknowledgement before continuing on with their day.

Alexandria led us through town, talking to people sporadically and dragging me into shops seemingly at random, all the while we talked about life. Not long after we left one of the shops, Alexandria seemed to disappear right in front of my eyes. While looking around for Alexandria my eyes met the eyes of a woman across the square.

Looking at her face I immediately recognised her from the show. Nadia Petrova, Katherine's daughter, was not supposed to be here at all; she didn't appear until much later in the show. She looked a few years older than her mother, looking to be in her mid-thirties, whereas Katherine looked about twenty at the latest, though you could tell the two were related.

I already knew that my appearance here had knocked the events of the show out of order, but with each day that passed it seemed to get worse. New characters or events seemed to appear out of sync as time passed.

Our eyes had met only momentarily but she seemed to instantly recognise me as I did her. A slight expression of surprise and fear came across her face and she froze. For a few moments, I too remained still, trying not to cause her worry too much.

Someone passed between us, breaking my line of sight, and when it returned, she was gone. Obviously, she had taken the chance to escape. I could not blame her; an encounter with an original very rarely went well for anyone. Nadia being here was not too much of a problem; I actually wondered if she had been following us throughout the centuries, though I never found evidence to support that. Though I had no doubt that she would have been trying to keep an eye on her mother, perhaps Rebekah and I forced her to keep her distance.

In the show, she attempted to find Katherine following her across the world, usually just a couple of steps behind the doppelganger. In fact, she had done a better job following Katherine than Klaus had, something I have always found hilariously funny.

She had disappeared before my very eyes though, and would probably be keeping her head low. The look of fear and surprise on her face told me she knew exactly who I was and did not expect me to be here. Hopefully, I had not scared her away from Mystic Falls, but something told me that the near ancient vampire would not be scared off so easily.

moving on with a glace at the crowd I saw Alexandria heading back towards me, so with one final scan of the crowd to try and find Nadia, I walked off towards Alexandria. "Where did you go?" she asked. "You disappeared. The moment I turned for half a second, you had disappeared," I answered with a half laugh.

"must be old age finally effecting you. After a thousand years, it was bound to happen," she responded with a laugh, as I feigned hurt at her words. It was not too unusual for Alexandria to disappear; she always seemed to slip away from me when we were out and about.

We continued on for a while, as I observed the town and the small but noticeable changes that had been made since we had arrived. The fear of the 'animal' attacks had started to die down, especially since there had been no attacks in weeks. Hopefully that would continue though I did have my doubts.
