According to the memories he inherited from the previous owner, he was within a corroded zone. Anywhere struck by the blinding radiance of God's power would become a corroded zone, and all forms of life within it would be wiped out.
Both humans and animals would die or mutate into horrendous creatures, and new life would spring forth, feeding on the corrosive substance that came from God's power.
Speaking of God, there was a huge hand that hung in the sky. It could be seen by all living things.
Thousands of years ago, this hand suddenly appeared in the sky, and with it came change. Some of the new forms of life that followed this change were called bizarre existences.
They did not follow the laws of nature and instead were guided by the perverse powers of God. The cultivation world was thrown into chaos, and the remaining human race's experts took the human race away.
A few months ago, God's power struck the city he was in, and everyone either died or mutated into beasts. Except him.
He didn't know how or why he survived while everyone else died. The bizarre existences within the corroded zones were very strong, and he couldn't even contend with mere mutated beasts, let alone battle bizarre existences.
Grey had been cultivating and managed to reach the second level of Qi Accumulation, but that was not even the bare minimum to survive—and he had been killed shortly after.
He held the purple crystal in his hand and continued walking forward. According to his memories, there was a mutated creature within this blood lake, and it was at the seventh level of Qi Accumulation.
The sky would soon get dark, and when it did, the bizarre existences would come out—and he'd be dead shortly if they found him.
Gritting his teeth and enduring the pain, he limped forward with the purple crystal in hand, navigating the growing, lush forest of the corroded zone.
He avoided areas where danger wasn't obvious and took detours around places that should have been harmless.
In the end, as the sun dipped low in the distance, he was safe within the walls of a dilapidated building. This house was one of the few that survived and, though not fully intact, still offered shelter.
He sat down and bit into his lip as the pain made his vision white. He blocked the door with various miscellaneous items that lay nearby—only then did he relax.
'What kind of world did I transmigrate into?'
Very soon, as the sun disappeared and the sky turned completely dark, the mutated creatures that populated the area came out and began to prowl.
The sounds of howls, growls, and groans made Grey afraid, but he focused on other things—like healing his broken leg.
If he couldn't walk tomorrow, there would be no way to find food. He was already pale as it was. He picked up the water bottle by his side and drank until his thirst was quenched.
He gritted his teeth as he shifted into a more comfortable position, making sure his leg lay straight to allow the bone to reattach correctly.
Luckily, he saw some dirty bandages not far away. Bearing through the pain of cleaning the wound, he wrapped the bandage around his leg.
Thankfully, it had stopped bleeding long ago. But any sudden or taxing movement would open it up again—leading to another round of suffering.
By the time he was done, the sweat had drenched his shirt, and his face was even more pale.
"Now I can study this crystal..."
He held the crystal in his hands and examined it from all angles. To him, it looked normal—like a crystal should. He gazed at it for several minutes, but nothing seemed off.
He sighed and brought it back to his chest. The purple light seemed to grow brighter, and he could feel his damaged body slowly repairing itself.
"So, the healing only works when I'm in contact with it."
Another thought entered his mind. This crystal was probably a valuable treasure—something people would kill for. If it were found on him, it would be taken by force.
"So where do I hide it?"
He looked at the large wound on his chest. It hadn't fully healed, but it was getting there. He gritted his teeth in anticipation and pushed the purple crystal into his chest.
Grey nearly screamed from the unbearable pain, but the thought of countless beasts and bizarre existences entering the house made him shut his mouth and endure it.
He bit his lip so hard he tasted blood. When the purple crystal was fully inside his body, he sighed in relief.
The crystal wasn't small, but it wasn't big either. Inside his chest, the purple crystal continued to emit light, and right before his eyes, his wounds began to heal.
The tear where he inserted the crystal closed up—and the same happened with the rest of his injuries.
His broken leg realigned and healed, and so did the gash on the back of his head. In fifteen minutes, he was fully healed—without even a scar.
Grey was so drained he fell asleep immediately after.
'I fell asleep...'
Grey awoke and gazed at the dark surroundings, half expecting to see his room.
'Ah yes, I remember. I transmigrated.'
He stood up and saw that his body was completely healed. There was no discomfort, not even a trace of injury. It was like everything had vanished.
Well, they had vanished—thanks to the purple crystal. Speaking of which, his chest felt normal. Like he hadn't shoved a crystal the size of a small rock into it.
He felt oddly powerful—as if he could face anything that came his way. But he knew that wasn't true. It was just a feeling that often came during cultivation.
"Finally, I can hunt for food while digesting the memories." He touched his side and felt the presence of a pouch.
When he opened it, he found a jade slip and a few other things. The contents of the jade slip were in a completely foreign language—he couldn't make sense of it.
But then it shifted—from strange to somewhat alien, then to familiar... and soon he could read it. He saw the title at the top and read it out loud:
"Sky Mist... Cultivation Art."
This was the art he was currently learning—or rather, the previous owner of this body had been learning before he died.
It included the breathing method and the way one's Qi should flow during cultivation. It even said that, for best results, it should be practiced where mist was present.
"But there's no mist here... Well, if it were me, I'd still be grateful I had a cultivation art to learn."
It mentioned what to expect while cultivating and outlined the number of levels it contained.
For now, he was at the second level—which corresponded to the second stage of the Qi Accumulation Realm. He had to sense the Qi in his body and guide it through every part.
He had already succeeded!
