For basic doctor's office tests, those are pretty normal. The hammer is for testing reflexes, and the tongue depressors are so they can get a better look at the tonsils (to check for infections).
In a case like this, asking for a blood sample is completely reasonable, as well, though I would also expect them to recommend seeing a specialist, or in this case a medical researcher, afterwords.
The only major problems: (1) Eri is a minor, and as such, she can't be left unattended, and (2) non-medical staff, in this case Mary, would never be allowed in the lab. It would make more sense for Mary to stay in the office with Eri.

She isn't human anymore. So you can't compare her blood test to humans usual result. Or she compare it to lizard ones.
I think it's meant to imply that the doctor is still considering her a human! Although yeah, the statement could be wrong in multiple situations.
You have to keep in mind that she didn't weigh it or anything like that, meaning just from holding it in her hands she realized that it is heavier than normal human blood.
@Vandalieu I forgot that density is not the same as thickness... oops. Will fix shortly, the blood is thick, not heavy. When I wrote it, I thought. "I mean, when someone is dense, they don't really get it. The point doesn't reach them - like, its dense. If the blood is dense, then it will be hard to extract?" Kind of like that.
Can one gain favor by presenting cookies to thou majestic beeing, for the small price of beeing allowed to pet thou head?

Anyway, that's quite a cliffhanger you got there. The way they left her alone seemed to have some purpose. If I didn't know how impossible it is to not simply love the little one I would suspect it to be some sort of trap.
I wonder why did they have to go somewhere alone for hours. If it was about a blood test then it just takes a few minutes to carry it to the lab and ask for it to be checked and later come for the results to be analyzed. Something is wrong here and the cliffhanger is in a way, so I can't see what. Maybe if I was taller I could see over the cliff-kun >.<
Regarding age she sometimes might act a little too immature. I've seen 7 years old who can survive veing left alone for a minute without crying. Or don't question the necessity of clothes.
I hope she still is Eri. That she did question this and behaves apparently different from her usual self doesn't sit well with me.

Or maybe she'll come back seemingly safe and sound? Only that she comes back as something else? Or SOMEONE else wearing her face?
