I didn’t have much experience waking up after passing out due to strange darkness powers, but I had to admit, this one was much better than the norm, because I was so comfy. The only reasonable guess was that I’ve died and gone to heaven and also got carried to the couch by–

Wait! Important!

I had two Moms now?!?

That’s so cool!!!

In fact, I needed to express my excitement so that Mom knew she was doing a good job, and the first step to that was probably acting like I actually regained consciousness instead of just laying there.

I tried opening my eyes, which has turned out to be a surprisingly difficult endeavor, but I’ve managed.

Waow, so woozy…

My head somehow fell further than when I was out, but I didn’t close my eyes!

In the spinny, blurry world outside of my head, I managed to spot a tall moving blob that was colored black and purple and mom.

“H-hey Mom…” I croaked out.

I expected my voice to sound more awful than usual, but it was surprisingly nice for croaking out.

Mom-blob gasped, and ran up to me until she transformed into Mom-but-blurry. She then picked something up from the coffee table.

“Here sweetheart, drink this, it will help,” Mom-but-blurry said.

There was so much care in her voice…

My memories were as wonky as the rest of me, but I couldn’t recall her ever sounding anywhere near that Mom-ful when she was… Dad-moding? Let’s go with that.

I instead directed my attention towards the blurry cup she was holding out.

“Wassat?” I asked.

“Oh, it’s just mint tea, I have no clue why, but it helps with this sort of stuff,” Mom-but-blurry explained.

I raised my weak hands to grab the hold of the surprisingly large warm cup, and I started sipping.

Over the course of the next five to fifteen minutes, I made my way through the contents of the cup, which were, indeed, mint tea. I just focused on the most important thing, which was becoming less silly.

Don’t get me wrong, silly is good and all, but I’d rather do it on purpose.

By the time I was done, Mom sat down across from me on the comfy chair, and I was conscious enough to just call her Mom, even if she was still a little blurry. I could look into her eyes enough to notice that they were now purple, with a gentle glow to them, and her beautiful face was framed by her raven black long hair.

Now that I thought about it, that was the same comfy chair other Mom used when explaining magical girl stuff.

The exposition chair…

“So, I have a lot to explain to you, I know… Where do you think I should start?” she asked.

Okay, I should be conscious enough to ask the important questions my life depended on in an eloquent way.

“So if you’re a mom, why do you pretend to be a dad?” I asked.

Perfect phrasing.

“I-I’m… But I’m… No, I’m not! Listen, I realize what this body implies, but I am not a woman, this is just a side effect of being the reincarnation of the actual Demon Queen, I need to be like this to use my powers, but it’s not… It’s not even what we should be talking about!” she exclaimed.

I tilted my head – this was confusing, but the whole secret identity stuff seemed pretty silly to me, especially so long after it was resolved, so this seemed more important.

“It’s not just the body, it’s the whole… vibe. I dunno, I think it’s these powers or something, I could see through secret identities of Mom and Lottie, and I can also feel some… feeling from you, and it’s definitely a Mom feeling…” I paused to gather my thoughts. “And also, if the original Demon Queen was a woman, and you’re the same soul as her, doesn’t that mean you’re also a woman? Souls involve genders I think…”

“I– That’s– Okay, regardless of what’s happening with that, we have more pressing issues! Your mother is active again and… Oh Goddesses, of course it’s Lottie, who else would it be… Right, what I was saying is that as soon as you are recovered enough, we need to go to a place I know where I can show you things to do with your powers, I can’t explain everything with words, and we have no idea when your mother will be back.”

I tried desperately to sift through memories of the last couple of days for anything useful.

“I… think Mom and Lottie are on patrol today?” I said.

She sighed. “Great, that complicates things, gotta keep a low profile. For now, try to move around with your new body, while I get some things.”

“My new body?” I asked.

Right, my voice was different now, much sweeter and softer, very nice. I didn’t deserve that nice of a voice…

“Honey, you transformed right before you passed out, remember?”

Oh, right. That.

“That… I transformed, just after you…” I gasped way too loudly as it hit me. “Does that mean I’m like you?”

I sounded way too excited, I shouldn’t do that. I wasn’t like Mom, I didn’t get to have this, but I was still too out of it to manage to wipe the smile from my face.

She actually did smile at that.

“Yes sweetheart, you are,” she confirmed.

I looked at the top of her head. Those were some impressive, twisting horns that went up almost a head taller, and she was, like, at least a head taller than usual even without that.

“Does that mean I have horns?” I asked, with a bit of hesitation.

Those couldn't be practical.

She giggled. “Yes you do, but yours are much tinier than mine. What you should be much more interested in is that you also have one of these.”

She turned her body to give me a view of a long, thin, black tail coming out of her lower back, with a cute spade at the end of it.

I gasped, before quickly raising myself from the couch in search of the tail behind me, and with a tug of instinct, it came out on its own. I gasped again, before quickly hugging it and letting out a squealing noise.

I should be more collected than that, and definitely less girly, but I didn’t care, I just realized there has been a tail shaped-and-sized hole in my life, and now it was filled and it was a wonderful feeling.

Almost as wonderful as the feeling from the elephant in the room I couldn’t keep avoiding – yes, my body appeared to be that of a girl, with all the bells and whistles that brought, but I’ve resolved to do my best not to think about it. The less I process it, the less it’s going to hurt later; I knew Mom could turn back and forth, because duh, which meant that I could as well, and I did not have an excuse of wanting spread corruption, because that would draw too much attention to me and I didn’t like it.

Anyways, movement! Relocation! I should stand up now!

I did stand up, and it wasn’t hard. Looked like I got all the silly out of my system with the tail hugging.

By the time I discovered I had a worryingly easy time walking around despite complete change to my skeletal structure, Mom returned with a hoodie on, and another in her arms, covering the weird black form-fitting uniform with a worrying number of holes that I, too, unfortunately had on my body.

As she walked up to me, I realized both just how short I’ve gotten, and how tall she’s gotten, even without the horns.

“Whoa, tall…” I mumbled.

She laughed. “Barely taller than your mother, you’re the short one.”

Bubbly warmth stirred in my chest and on my face, so I turned away in case she could see it.

“Regardless, I’ve got everything ready, but before we leave, you should probably use the large corridor mirror,” she suggested.

Oh no, knowing a lot of things from my perspective was one thing, another was seeing myself in the mirror – I didn’t know if my resolve could even survive that.

“No, there’s no need,” I said flatly.

“Are you sure? You seemed so excited…” she asked.

I could feel something from her, almost as if she’d expected me to embrace this, which I couldn’t do under any circumstances.

“No, I was just… still out of it. I’m fine now. Besides, you said it yourself, time is of the essence,” I affirmed.

“Alright then.” She seemed disappointed. “Put this on, we don’t have anything for when you’re transformed, and I’m usually the smallest one of the three of us, so you’ll need to wear one of my hoodies, don’t worry, it’s cleaned. Just don’t forget to hide your tail and use the hood to hide your horns.”

I did as instructed, noting that my horns were, indeed, tiny enough to hide under the hood – worse case scenario, someone would think I was wearing one of those catgirl hoodies that I totally didn’t secretly envy the cute girls for wearing.

We walked out of our apartment building and towards a tram stop. Wouldn’t want to be caught in ‘Dad’s’ car while like this, after all.

“By the way, why does the hoodie need to be cleaned?” I asked.

She sighed. “You love asking the practical questions, don’t you? Anyways, it’s because, even if one can’t smell it on themself unless it’s really bad, men do stink, and our noses are much more sensitive while like this. Not a demon thing, just a woman thing. Though you should be asking about the demon things.”

Oh, right… I supposed that if I wanted my parents to stop doing the silly lying to each other thing, I should probably know the backstory.

“Okay, so let’s start with why were you fighting Mom in the first place,” I decided.

“Well, it wasn’t really my choice… I mean, it was, of course, I was in control of my actions, but… When I was your age, starting on my sixteenth birthday, I started getting flashbacks to memories of… the previous Demon Queen. The one who died not too long before I was born. She wasn’t a perfect person, she definitely would have said she wasn’t good or even neutral, but… she had her reasons for doing what she did. She was a queer woman, just like your mother, but it was a different time, and she had to hide who she was… She had to stand by as countless other women were hurt, never having the freedom to be themselves, while the cruel people in power, mostly men, let’s be honest, continued to succeed and prosper despite their clear evil. At some point, she simply decided that the power she had, the same as we have, could bring good to the world – the selfish and powerful already could do what they wanted, and she wanted to level the playing field, have everyone be free to live their truest selves, even if it came at the cost of taking away their choice not to do so.

“She failed, of course. In fact, she was killed by the Magical Knight of that time. And when I put it all together, I… I couldn’t stop from feeling that it was so unfair. I didn’t even know if I agreed with her plans, I still don’t know, but… When I was your age, I was really depressed, really an almost empty shell of a person. Sure, I knew your mother by then, and we were good friends, but she was a confident, social, outgoing queer woman with a strong preference for women. I couldn’t possibly imagine the world where she’d stay even as just my friend, and… Well, you know my family was a bunch of conservative bigots – without her, I truly felt like I had nothing, and I believed it was inevitable she’d leave me behind. And so, when I was handed a mission, a plan, something to do with my life, on a silver platter… Dedicating myself to try to fulfill a dead woman’s vision didn’t seem like such a bad thing to do with my life.

“If I’m being honest, I probably would have stopped right there and then had I realized that the Magical Knight I was fighting was your mother, but for the first dozen or so times I went out as the Demon Queen to try and corrupt people I was so unbelievably nervous that I couldn’t see the obvious even if it punched me right in the face – and it tried, your mother was even worse of a liar back then. By the time I knew, I was too committed, I thought it was my life’s purpose to bring the plan to completion. It was stupid, but teens often tend to be, and I was a pretty stupid one at that. So yeah, that’s how we ended up with our little conflict.”

“What happened next? Mom mentioned a final confrontation…” I asked.

“Hah, of course she explained everything to you once she knew she was busted… Yeah, there was a final confrontation, it wasn’t even close to the final step of the plan, but it was around the same point as the previous Demon Queen failed at, so it was still meaningful… What’s more, with how often the two of us ended up fighting each other, it became a battle of attrition, we simply couldn’t keep fighting like that for long – it made sense that the next big thing would be the breaking point. At some point, I made a deal with myself – if I won, I would go full time Demon Queen, leaving my old life behind. Of course, the inverse was also true, if I lost, I would leave behind the Demon Queen and everything that came with her, and simply become the useless best friend of the real hero. I had no idea at the time, of course, that the real hero was planning to ask out her useless best friend on a date, nor that she would actually like it so much we would become an item…” she explained.

I did not know what to do with the fact that the big destined fight fit so well into their life stories as I knew them already, but I supposed it did give me a lot more information to work with, and work with I would. I simply had to convince my parents that the generational conflict that’s lasted hell knows how long was silly, that they should make up and make out about it, and also convince one of my moms that she was, in fact, a woman, all the while hopefully not revealing my new form to anyone else because Lottie would never let it go if she found out.

Simple, right?

Two Moms? Two Moms! And species euphoria! That's definitely the only kind of euphoria going on in this chapter, for both the characters! There's also some more lore, but MC, as a proper newly crowned villainess, hatches a devious plan instead!
