-----???/Our Protagonist-----

-----Our World-----

-----Modern Day-----

You know something? I'm really annoyed. The reason for my annoyance? The lack of any good Prey (2017) fanfiction. Seriously! There is so much potential there, but no one does anything with it!

Then there's the "Let's Player's" on YouTube! For some reason, most of them try to stick to "no neuromods" or "human only" runs! What the fuck is wrong with them?! You're given all these kickass possible alien superpowers and you choose to be plain, boring humans for your audiences while hording the alien powers playthrough for your personal time?!

If I had some money and free time, I'd get the game myself so I could have fun messing around with the Typhon powers, but alas, I cannot. Ugh! The Typhon are freaking awesome! I kinda wish I could be like Morgan Yu and have access to those powers for myself. Not sure what I'd do with them, but it'd be a hell of a lot more entertaining than my current life is.

Sighing once more at how dull my life as a boring ass human male is while yawning massively, I decide to call it a night, lower the brightness on my laptop to minimum, and go to sleep. At 5AM, as usual.

Little did I know, that was the last night I'd ever spend as a "boring ass human". Looking back on it now, I can only say one thing. "Humanity is overrated."

-----???/Our Protagonist-----

-----Earth(?)-----

-----??/??/????-----

Waking up from my dormancy, I take a moment to observe my surroundings. Hmm, there doesn't appear to be any prey to consume to fuel my propagation in my immediate surroundings. Wait, what?

Why does this feel so... wrong? I'm pretty sure I went to sleep/entered dormancy somewhere else. How'd I end up here? Wherever here is?!

With no indication of my present whereabouts other than it being some dark, dank, filthy alleyway, I decide to err on the side of caution and {Aha! That object is small enough!} tapping into my natural instincts, I mimic one of the various discarded items of refuse nearby.

Wait, why does this register as something I shouldn't be able to do? But I'm a Mimic? Isn't it natural? Hmm...

As I stand by continuing to mimic the object that part of me insists is a coke bottle, how I know that, or why I care for that matter is beyond my understanding, nor do I understand why I'm questioning this, or how I'm capable of questioning anything; eventually, a suitable prey stumbles carelessly into the alley and slumps down nearby.

Deciding to make my move, I gently roll my bottle-self over towards the prey. It seems that this particular prey isn't very bright, but they'll do just fine for my purposes.

"Hmm? Coulda sworn... ah, never mind." Says the target. It seems they noticed the sounds of the bottle rolling along the ground, but are doubting themselves. Good. I'm close enough now.

I revert back to my Mimic-self and jump towards my prey. The prey is obviously startled by the sudden turn of events, but that's the intention. I latch onto the prey's uppermost extremity and extend one of my tendrils into its largest orifice. Reaching in, I penetrate the tough inner layer and reach the organ housing the neural energy of the prey.

Draining the neural energy of my target, I'm suddenly overcome by a most peculiar sensation. I could devote the energy I've gathered to generate more Mimics, like a Mimic normally could, or I can imbue the energy into myself. I feel as if doing so would be a good idea, so I decide to do so.

Common Name: Human
Scientific Name: Homo sapiens

Humans, like most mammals, possess a low natural psychoactive potential. Attempts to alter brain function through artificial means are usually temporary at best, or harmful and addictive at worst. The addition of the [REDACTED], derived from the Typhon organisms, temporarily weakens the elasticity of human neuron connections and allows for the addition of new, synthetic neurons to catalyze changes in the subject's brain.

Removal of this serum will cause the human body to reject the new neurons and connections, effectively resetting the brain back to its original state. This process may result in memory loss and other as of yet undiscovered side-effects.

Scannable Powers:

Huh? What was that all about? Suddenly, my head is filled with information about this prey species. Homo sapiens. Human. Along with the basic information about the Human species, I seem to have gained some of the human's knowledge. Not much, but a general rundown of the state of this world.

Evidently, I find myself on a planet called "Earth Bet". I'm located in a city called "Brockton Bay, CT". There are an unknown number of individuals composing a number of groups of individuals called "Parahumans" who possess abilities that are atypical of what Humans should be naturally capable of.

For some reason, this information springs to mind an unnerving sense of reminiscence. Obviously, this is impossible, yet... Hmm, in any event, I should dispose of this body somehow. Until these "Parahumans" and there powers are properly understood, there is a risk of them being able to detect my existence whenever I'm engaging in Mimicry.

The best move I can make is to eliminate all traces of my presence, which means disposing of the corpse of my prey. Hmm, my instincts tell me that a Weaver could pull it off, but I require additional Mimics to either turn one into a Weaver, or become one myself.

With this information in mind, I search the immediate vicinity for other humans to prey on. I'm most fortunate in that I manage to locate in their dormancy state, or rather sleeping, around a corner. Naturally, I strike quickly, consuming my prey's neural energy and this time using it to fuel the replication process.

One Mimic splits into a total of four Mimics, as is our way. The other Mimics then decide to nominate me to become the first Weaver. I have no objection to this as I'm stung repeatedly by the other Mimics, kickstarting the metamorphosis.

Moments later, my form has finished transitioning into a more amorphous shifting of tendrils that is able to levitate via self-directed telekinesis and gravity manipulation.

I then reach out a tendril of psychic energy towards the corpse of my second prey and begin the [Phantom Genesis] process.

"You ever been half awake?" Asks the Phantom. For some reason, that particular question feels like it should be familiar as well. Deciding to think on this matter at a later time, I levitate over to the corpse of the first prey and once more perform [Phantom Genesis].

Now, with two Phantoms at my disposal and all traces of my presence eliminated, it's time to disappear. There is no traffic nearby, so the three remaining Mimic's, the two newly raised Phantom's, and my Weaver-self, descend into a manhole cover, using the sewer's as our temporary refuge.

All in all, an excellent start.
