= CHRIS POV =
After Heather and I exchanged our updated contacts, I went into the kitchens to see if I could catch Sarah and have a word with her, however all I saw was Hana packing up her workstation.
I did come to congratulate Hana, so I figured I might as well chat with her for a bit, I could always catch Sarah back at home where she couldn’t evade me.
I walked over and clapped Hana on the back.
“Chris! How are you? Longtime no see!” Hana said and gave me a friendly side-hug.
“Yeah, I’ve been busy working at the hotel. But never mind about me, I hear things are getting busier than usual for you. Jessica told me that you proposed?” I beamed “Congratulations”
Hanna smiled and clasped her hands together. The gesture reminded me of Jessica, which was just so cute; I guess when you spend a lot of time with another person, certain behaviors start to rub off on you.
“Thank you so much! Jessica and I are hoping to be able to use the event space here, but Ruby is so stubborn, and I can’t seem to catch Heather in time to ask her. Do you think you can put in a good word for me? We can’t afford much, so it would be great if we could have this space for our commitment ceremony” Hana asked.
“Oh I…was just about to offer. Of course, consider it done. I will speak with Heather, and I’m sure she will be delighted to accommodate your big day,” I smiled warmly, glad that I could help out a friend.
Hana and I spoke for a bit, and she gave me a box of new pastries her station had been working on for tomorrow’s menu. Some of the tarts had strawberries, so I grabbed some white chocolate from the food storage area to make a white chocolate drizzle when I went home.
When I finally made my way back to the main area to grab the flowers, I spotted Sarah through the window, getting into the back of Heather’s car.
I could see Amber was already inside, so it wasn’t just Sarah and Heather alone; however, seeing someone else driving Sarah somewhere made my chest tight.
I wanted to rush out, to call her back, but I hesitated. Today had been a good day and, I didn’t want to ruin it any further than I already had with that little spat with Ruby.
Just as I was about to look away and pick up the bag of flowers, Sarah looked back at the café, and our eyes locked for a second.
She smiled and as the car pulled away and made a small wave gesture, which unraveled a little bit of the tension I had been feeling, seeing her walk away from me.
I sighed and shook my head, gathering up the flowers and the pastries, heading out as well.
She would be waiting for me at home, I reassured myself.
That pleasant smile, and emerald green eyes, would be all mine in an hour or so, I just needed to go home, and there she would be, waiting for me.
