As all the students left, guided by the student council,
only me and Vivian were left here.

“Come on. Let’s go to the class now.” She said.

“Viv. You always smile, don’t you?”

“Ah, is that so? I never noticed.”

“It’s just that, it’s really admirable, you know. To keep
smiling all the time.”

“Oh my  it’s nothing
that impressive. It’s just a gift from God.”

God, huh. I’ve met him, probably. He said something, didn’t
he? Something about...uhhhh...what was it? Like...not, he is not the God. I
think that’s what he said. He is a god, not the God. Maybe. I wonder how much
power does god has. I mean, he created this universe, but, are there any rules?
My physics sir once said that laws of physics are limitations of god. Looking
back now, he sure is lucky none of his students were religious.

At that time, there was no meaning to those words. I can
fly, transform and shoot beams. I have fired only once but it seems like the
beams have intensified ever since I have come here.

But now, I am in a world of magic. Shooting beams is norm
here. I wonder if this world has rules. Boundaries. Just how far can magic go,
I wonder. Can it bring back dead? Bend light? Go faster than light?

“Flare, do you remember your way here?”

“Mi! Ah, sorry. I was kinda, distracted?”

I let out a strange voice since I was surprised, but it
seems like we are here. The door to my left was similar to one in my bedroom
and the one in that headmaster’s door.

“Don’t worry, you will learn soon enough. Well, bye and good
luck.”

“Eh? You aren’t coming?”

“No, it’s your private class. I’ll meet you after it’s
over.”

Eehhh. I don’t want to be alone. Well, I suppose time to
find some new future husbands!

Thinking so, I opened the door, but there was no one inside
other then an adult.

“Good morning, Flare. Please take a seat.” She said

You mean the seat, considering there was only one chair and
one desk in the whole classroom. I took a seat.

“I forgot to brings any books.” I mumbled.

“Here they are.” She said slapping a heap of books and
notebooks on her table. She removed one notebook and handed me a pen along with
it.

“Well, my name is Redwood. You will call me Ms. Redwood. You
know what we are going to do?”

“Learn stuff?”

“Exactly, and we are going to have fun learning. You see
Flare, I am not like other teachers.”

It was really hard to hold a laugh hearing that. That
statement remains funny no matter how many teachers say it.

“I am not like those teachers who just shout and shout
spitting boring lectures. I really enjoying teaching.”

I bet she will say that line about friends.

“Don’t take me as a teacher, I am your friend.”

“Knew it.” I mumbled.

“Did you say anything?”

“Oh, no. Nothing.”

“Well, I am pretty sure you must be confused. You are in a
strange land which uses strange units and strange words. Don’t worry, by end of
this moir, I’ll make sure you know everything.”

“Moir?”

“Oh, we will learn about that. It’s just a unit of time. We
will keep the boring stuff for later. Let’s start with the rad stuff.”

“The what stuff?”

“Nothing, nothing. I said interesting stuff. So, have you
heard about the basic law of Magic?”

“Yes, Vivian told me about it.”

“Excellent. Can you state it?”

“Ahhh. It was something like...uhh, Magic does something.”

“Evolves. Magic evolves. Listen, Flare. The first magic
developed by humans was one to warm hands. Just listen for now, there is no
need to note things down. That magic could heat hands to 89 ferry bromade. Just
learn that value for now.

That magic, was passed down, generation by generation. Each
one perfecting it. Hence, it is theoretically impossible for past to have
better magic. Flare, do you know why I said theoretically?”

“Because of exceptions?”

“Exactly! Because of exceptions. History has seen 5
exceptions till now. In the order of their historical appearance,

The First Demon Lord. His name is not known.

The Second Demon Lord. His name is not known.

The Disciple of Second Demon Lord. His name is not known.

The Individual named Kami.

The Elf of Highlands, Eldritch.”

“Wait, you know her!?”

“What was that?”

“Ah, sorry. I was just surprised anyone remembers her.”

“Well, I am a teacher. It would be shameful for me to forget
her. Anyways, can you see what’s strange with that list?”

“A lot of things.”

“Ooh, like, like?”

“Well, we don’t know the names of first three people.”

“Okay, and?”

“And, well, I forgot the others. The exceptions.”

“The Individual named Kami and The Elf of Highlands,
Eldritch.”

“Well, there is that thing.”

“What thing?” she said quite smugly.

“That Kami person has a strange title.”

“Yes, that is a title given to respect his efforts. We are
going to learn a lot about him, don’t worry about that. But, Kami, you see. His
name means God in ancient language. He alone, contributed very much to history.
He even helped the hero of that time to defeat the Third Demon Lord. Any other questions?”

“I think you already know what I am going to ask.”

“Perhaps. Who knows.”

“Why no one remembers the 5th

“Ha?” the teacher made a slightly disappointed face “Is that
all?”

“Well, yes.”

“Okay, well, that’s completely okay. So, let’s move to the
next topic, why is The Second Demon Lord an exception.”

Oh, so she wanted me to ask her that.

“Vivian said he was a magical girl.”

“Yes, The Second was a Maagical Girl. Now, Flare. You are a
Maagical Girl. Do you know why Maagical Girls are exceptions?”

“Am I supposed to know?”

“Well, you have all the time to think about it.”

“Well, magical girls can, shoot beams.”

“Yes, and?”

“Oh, could it be. Magical girls use power of love!”

“Yes! That’s exactly the answer. Till the time you have emotions,
you can have infinite mana. Magical girls are sources of seemingly infinite
energy.”

“Are, are other exceptions also that powerful?”

“Hm?” She chuckled, “Not even close. Sure, they were strong
for that time, but that was thousand years ago. Even a student of this Academy
can defeat the First. A teacher would be enough to deal with the Disciple.
Kami, well, he needs a professional, maybe. Since he worked alone, his feats are
greatly exaggerated. As for Eldritch, she is just a normal elf.”

“Why only Second then?”

“Because he was a Maagical Girl! He came from another world.
Only heroes ever do that. That was the only time in history when the Demon Lord
was summoned from another world. We still don’t have technology to defeat the
likes of him.”

“But, magical girls require love to do magic, how can he
have love when he was a demon lord?”

“Well, The Second must be from a different world, for his
source of power is said to be fear instead of love. Now, well. We can talk all
about that later. Right now, we quickly have to finish one more topic.”

She pulled a piece of paper from her folder and placed it on
my desk. There was a strange circle drawn on it, a circle which got curved at
one point to form a bent M.

“Now, Flare. Magic works because we mix mana in certain
ways. Primitive magic like the hand warming one I told you about, it can be
done just by naturally flowing mana throughout your hands. A modern human’s
blood vessels are made that way. For a bit more complex magic, you have to use
your fingers and form hand signs, but we just use a wand engraved with that
particular circuit nowadays.

Another way, is to use a magic circle. It is drawn with
conducting ink, and can be activated just by pouring mana into it. This one, is
a very simple one. If I pour my mana.” She touched the circle with her finger.
It soon began to glow like a fluorescent bulb, white.

“Now that has been cleared, we are going to end our class
here.”

“So quick?”

“Well, the principal called you. You should be going there
now. Come, I’ll show you the way.”
