Jackson plugged his nose.

"I shouldn't have just left this guy out all night."

Disgusting.

He had left the wolf's corpse out without moving it at all and it had a great stench now. It was by pure luck no other animal came by, he hadn't even started a fire.

He rubbed his left arm a bit. Still wounded there.

He had to force himself not to heal it. He had gotten too skiny from all the so called "exercise healing". The way the spell works is by force feeding your cells till they make more cells and also forcing them to do it faster, also with a bit of magical leeway. Of course the food has to come from somewhere, even though he ate way more than usual, he still didn't eat enough. The body is only so efficient in harvesting nutrients and proteins.

There may be a spell for that... Eh, too much effort.

"Heh, too much effort he says. As if what I've been doing lately isn't exhausting."

Jackson had gotten the task of moving the corpse from the campsite done, it was at least decently far, pretty dang heavy though.

"I am so looking forward to not eating beef jerky and canned peaches."

...

What do you do on a day like this in a city when you live in the woods?

Jackson already knew the answer. Read. That's it really. What else was ther to do? Maybe use up the favor from Rosaline amd have her teach him swordsmanship? Nah, he only had one day off and it was a day off.

So he went to a resturant, ate some food, went on a walk, read a book on a park bench, you know, relaxing. It was well needed for someone who basically only worked for the past... What, two weeks? Speaking of, when is his birthday coming up? Should be soon.

He opened his, what he called, Profile and saw that indeed, he had turned 14 today.

Name: Jackson
Age: 14
Race: Human

Oh, guess I should have expected that. Congrats me, I guess? I don't get birthday party's much anymore. Sure celebrate all you want, but all I did was exist another year. I mean, I understand the idea of celebrating a birth but it being so hyped feels a bit... strange to say the least. Eh, I'll change this window a little bit as a bit of "celebration".

There, a lot, LOT longer, but way more useful. Also, 60 Wisdom, nice! I'm close now, I'll accomplish my dream! How about... How about today! Do I have my application? Ok, got it, Pen? Yes!

Ok " what are your best skills"... Frick. It's like i've forgotten everything i've done in my life... Oh, actual skills.

After a long time of writing, preemptive embarrassment, and doubt, he finished the application

The best thing he could do was his magic, especially healing, as it was notoriously hard to learn, even if he only knew one spell. His other skills were underleveled but was actually relatively adept with magic for his age.

I should be let in... I think. Still need to pass the test though. Ah, no point in worrying, I can do it in another month.

The tests took place once a month, and they didn't get crowded to often to be honest, all the adventures are already adventurers so, it shouldn't be to long a test. Typically it'd be a dungeon run in a team of at least four, he could manage that.

...

"Your here to submit an application? What role are taking?"

"A Supporter, Ma'am!"

"Alright, and how old are you? Minumum age allowed is 14."

"I just turned 14 today Ma'am!"

"Really? Happy birthday then, you can come back tommorow to see if you'll be accepted for the test, the test is next week by the way."

"Thank you Ma'am! How many others are taking the test if I may ask?"

"I don't know how many specially, but enough that the test will be held. A word of advice, be careful, if you're going as a supporter you'll most likely be accepted, but you have to watch your own back, new adventurers don't always know how to act. You'll be fine either way, a moderator will be there, you'll just get points off, along with your team."

"Ah, Thank you Miss...?"

"Caroline, and keep my information in mind, supporter need to take a watchful eye just as much as a scout, everyone should."

It was useful information, he'd keep an eye out anyway, but now more so.

Walking out the guild, he had an excited mind, thinking many things.

I need more supporting spells obviously, I have a few in mind, but it's a bit hard to think up, gotta pit those 60 points of Wisdom to work. Maybe I should spend some Ability points first. Let me check on my skills.

I think Archery might have an ability I can take, I hope so at least. Maybe some in Magic Schools as well, I'm interested in what survivalism would have, it always leveled at strange times, finding toilet paper leaves, deciding not to eat suspicious berries, heck, even eating food. Anything survival related seemed to be something the skill encompassed.

Starting with Archery, there was only one ability available.

Archer's Eye:
(Archery)

As the Archer shoots the target, he steps back and tries again, further this time, yet distance is no barrier.

Allows the user to focus their vision and see further.

As it was the only one there, he took it. It was a useful ability, basically a magnifying glass.

Jackson looked up too a clocktower and used it and-

"Woah"

It was weird, all his peripheral vision just vanished and want he focused on expanded. It would be nausiating if it wasnt now a natural part of him. Abilities typically won't be passed down though, more a phenotype thing.

Jackson "zoomed out" and went on with abilities.

Efficient Invigorator:

Helps to lower mana cost of Invigoration type spells.

A bit niche but useful didn't have a nice description sadly. It didn't show an exact number of how much it lowered it, but it 'helped' kind of like an experience boost in a way, so in the long run, it's better than a flat boost, just like with levels and experience, the more mana used, the more powerful the spell.

There wasn't one for healing, which was dissapointing. Made sense though, he didn't improve healing more than experiment with his efficiency, and only had limited success. But the next ability cheered him right up.

Efficent Survivor:

The essence of survival is efficiency, as the hunter rations, and the vultures scavange, energy is preserved.

Increases the efficiency of the users body, to lessen the amount of food, water, sleep, or air needed to survive.

A VERY useful ability. More a just in case ability then a needed one, but it'd prove useful. The second he accepted it, an expected change occoured, a very welcome one. His body felt like it was... clear, in a way, like a blockage was removed, like he had just taken a shower.

From Jacksons understanding, it would lessen dependance on resources or rest, but if you had them in abundance...

Increased regeneration, like Increase Metabolism, but more efficient healt wise, and no mana spent for it!

This ability would be perfect in so many scenarios, like getting a full eight hours of sleep when really low on stamina, and being full on it when you woke up. Stamina typically regenerated the fasted unless under certain conditions, so you'd typically have it full when you woke up, as stamina regen increases with endurance, along with your capacity, but the regeneration part of it, less so.

He stopped his ability shopping for now. He'd decided to spend the night in the city. It'd save him the trip of walking back and forth and it was already close to sunset. Before that though, it was equipment shopping time.

He wanted new bow, and needed more arrows. He was lucky to have gotten this much use from such a cheap bow, heck his arrows had been well and thoroughly pillaged now. The bow was made by an apprentice Fletcher and was made more for experience than effectiveness. Care still went into the bow of course, it just didn't have the best draw strength and was a bit small.

Anyway, he had money to spend and wanted a new one. He ended up getting a pretty nice looking one, he got to test it out a bit, just drawing it back a bit, he also got an Archery glove as his fingers hurt from drawing back bows. Some may question him having only one glove, but it was made just for archery, so once they saw a bow they'd make the connection, he'd only realy wear it while he was using the bow anyways.

The bow had some nice carvings, a comfortable grip, and a stronger draw. All in all it was just a better bow.

After he left the store he went to find a cheap inn and eventually found one for about 50 Obols a night. It was called The Silent Night.

He sure hoped it was, he wanted some sleep.

Fun Fact: the nails on your dominant hand grow faster, and Women's nail's grow faster then men's!
