Royal Palace, Country of Eruchea:-

“Your majesty, why me?”, asked Jeanette with a very confused look on her now bright red face.

Harry came to his senses.

He had said a lot of things in his anger.

But, fortunately, or unfortunately, everything he said wasn’t just stuff he said in the heat of the moment.

Harry was a bit of an otaku in his previous life.

And like most otakus, he didn’t have anything close to a girlfriend even after getting into college.

At that point, Harry just used his studies and other activities as a sort of distraction and never really thought about this.

Even after coming to this world, he had been pretty busy every day with his training routines, hunting and taking care of Qing and Shin.

And when he became a king, he was still quite busy.

The only time that he relaxed in the few days he had been king was when he had to go for the meeting with Ma Liang, the demon.

The long rides in a carriage with everyone along with a refreshing discussion with Liang had elevated a lot of his mental stress.

And it was then only that he met Jeanette, a slightly clumsy young girl with a slender but somewhat curvy body.

She had bright green eyes and bright fire-truck red hair, both of which could only be found naturally in a fantasy world. Earth had those colours too, but they were only available as lenses and dyes. No one was born with these sort of colours.

But even after these exotic features, she was pretty but not so pretty that she would be called a “peerless jade beauty” or anything that cheesy.

But for Harry, she was good enough.

She was kind, cute and hardworking.

And the little crush that he had developed on her ended up bursting out when he heard about all the stupidity that happened among the servants.

“Uhh, yeah, look, so, um, I’m a normal straight guy, okay?

So, I have no interest in Shin or Qing.

And, um, I found you to be pretty cute…?”

Harry started spouting all sorts of nonsense that came to mind as he tried to justify the weird declaration he made earlier.

“And I thought that this would be a good lesson for all the other maids who used to boss over each other based on how much that meatball like to screw them.

I thought that if you became my wife or something, you would instantly rise above everyone else.

Not that I don’t love you or anything… I really do love you a lot!

I just didn’t know how to convey it and it all ended up bursting out when I lost control of my tongue in my anger…

Oh my gosh! Is it that you’re underage or something!?”

Jeanette looked very embarrassed after hearing Harry’s rapid-fire ramblings.

“N-no, your majesty, I turned 19 this year, but-”

“Is it that you’re interested in girls then?”

“No, that’s not it either...”

“Ah, right! How can I be so stupid!

Here I am, forcing myself onto you and not even asking you for your opinion…

I am so very sorry! Please accept my apology!”

Harry’s mind got basically fried when he realised what situation he had put himself in with that very bold sounding announcement from earlier.

And as a result, he forgot all about the fact that he was now supposed to be a king and dropped to the ground in a dogeza position.

“YOUR MAJESTY, PLEASE STOP AND COME BACK TO YOUR SENSES!!!”

This time, Jeanette finally snapped because of the sheer embarrassment caused by Harry’s antics.

Having Jeanette scream from a few feet away snapped Harry back to his senses again.

He finally realised that he was only worsening the situation with his actions.

“Uhh, I, uh, I’m very sorry for the display that you had to see!

I wasn’t thinking straight and I can assure you that this won’t happen again in the future.

Now, all of you disperse from here and get back to your jobs at this instant!

All except Jeanette. You need to come with me to my office.

I think it’ll be better if we continue this discussion over there, away from others…

And for the rest of you, no gossiping about this stuff or it’s off with your heads!”

It seemed that Harry still wasn’t thinking completely straight.

Hearing their king’s orders, everyone quickly rushed back to work.

Jeanette followed Harry to his office.

“Just wait here for two minutes, okay?

I’ll be right back!”

Harry rushed out to wash his face and straighten his clothes before coming back to his office.

Now, he felt that all that adrenaline from earlier was out of his system and he was able to think normally again.

“So, I’m back.

How about we continue our little discussion…”, said Harry, who was now feeling very embarrassed by his actions earlier.

“Are you alright now, your majesty?”

Jeanette seemed to be really concerned about Harry after watching him earlier.

“Don’t you worry! I’m all okay now!

But, before that, why were you asking me the reason for choosing you?”

“Your majesty, the thing is that I really don’t feel that I’m good enough for you.

You can even talk normally with that scary demon lady

But I’m just an ordinary maid.

Earlier, I did come from a low-class noble family, but they dumped me here and cut off all ties with me before leaving! I don’t even have a last name anymore!

And on top of that, I’m not that great at work either.

That’s why I got very embarrassed and confused by your words, your majesty…”

Harry looked at Jeanette’s embarrassed face.

The poor girl had been abandoned by her own family and left to work in a place where she had to face a lot of mistreatment by her co-workers.

Even then, when offered a golden chance of a lifetime to get way above all of that, she still chose to try to refuse to not let his name get tarnished if he gets together with her.

What a cinnamon roll of a girl!

Now, there was still a chance that all this was an act and that she was some evil assassin or something, but if Harry got into thinking about that stuff, he’d probably end up in a mental asylum.

And even if she wasn’t as nice as she appeared to be, he was sure that he could deal with her if she ever tried harming him.

“That’s all fine by me!

Rather, I’m happy that your family left such a nice and kind girl all for me!

If they hadn’t run away like fools, they would have had the chance to be the family of the queen of this country!

Not only that, with all the things I have planned for this country, they would be losing out on a lot of things!

But no offence meant if I sounded rude to you.

I’m the sort of guy who likes to speak out loud when I want something and see the opportunity to take it.

That’s why, even though I was initially hesitating to confess to you, I ended up announcing it publicly...

But if you feel that I’m forcing myself upon you, you can take your time to decide first.

You can even refuse me.

And don’t worry about all the other servants!

Workplace bullying is a bad thing in the first place. I wouldn’t allow for it even if I didn’t like you as much as I do.”

Harry tried his best to explain himself with a rational mind.

“Your majesty, there no problem from your side!

I’m very happy that you said all that to me.

In fact, it’s every girl’s dream, no matter which part of this world, that a handsome prince or a king comes and proposes to them!

And you are not only very handsome but also a very smart, strong and caring man!

How can I not be happy when someone like you asks for my hand?”

It seemed that Harry’s words had made her even more flustered than before.

But Harry was happy.

This was the very first time he had ever confessed to a girl in both his lives.

And even though it didn’t go as he would have liked initially, things seemed to be going well for him now.

His very first confession looked like it would be a success!

He felt like dancing, but he figured that he’d save it for later when she properly said yes.

He didn’t want to look like a fool again and have her reject him!

A bit scared after thinking that, Harry asked, “So, um, what do you say?

Would you take this foolish little me, who can’t even control his emotions, as your husband?”

“But your majesty, wouldn’t marriage take a lot of effort and resources? Is it a good idea to get married now, when the kingdom isn’t very well off?”

“Godd*mn it! My first confession was brutally rejected!!! Someone, please just kill me already!”

Seeing Harry instantly start despairing after misinterpreting her words, Jeanette quickly tried to correct herself.

“Your majesty! Please don’t cry! I really didn’t mean it in that way!

I was just worried about your finances and the country!

I do want to be together with you! I’m just scared that holding a grand marriage might be bad for the country right now! That’s it!”

Harry, who had begun crying very quickly, managed to catch bits of what Jeanette said and asked while still sobbing a little, “...What? You aren’t rejecting me? Really?”

At this point, he looked like a baby, whose mother had told him that she’d leave him alone for a bit only to get misunderstood and causing the baby to start crying.

“Yes, your majesty! I’m not rejecting you!”

Jeanette also got a few tears in her eyes after seeing how bad Harry ended up looking after thinking that he was rejected.

“T-th-then… call me Harry! Or darling or honey or dear or hubby or whatever else you want to!

But stop being so dang formal with me! I’m supposed to be like your lover or something for gods’ sake!”

“Yes, your- I mean, okay, Harry! I won’t be ‘so dang formal’ with you!”, Jeanette said while laughing at Harry’s childish behaviour.

But what could Harry do?

He was currently so happy that his brain decided to turn off once more.

“A-and you’re to shift over to the royal wing of the palace! From now on, you’re basically the queen!

So, no more living in the servants’ section!

And don’t start shifting everything yourself! I’ll ask some of the other maids and servants to do it for you!

A-a-and before you go, you can call yourself Jeanette Scallon now. I am allowing you. No need to not have a last name!”

Harry’s brain switched over to his childish sense of rationality as he started demanding that even the most unnecessary little things were exactly done as he wanted them to happen.

Jeanette couldn’t help but laugh at her new ‘husband’/lover’s childish antics.

He looked very cute to her as he tried to think up and stop her from doing any little thing he could think of.

She herself felt like she was in some sort of a fairytale-like storybook or something.

{A/N: Someone call Deadpool or something! I can’t have a fourth-wall breaker in my series!}

No, fairytales are just imaginary things. But this was real!

She was really confessed to by the new king of her country!

And she was probably going to become his queen or something in the future.

But, honestly, she was so overjoyed that she felt that even being a concubine would be good enough for her.

Seeing Jeanette lost in thought with different emotions passing over her face, Harry figured that she would most probably start with self-depreciation very soon and start thinking that she’d settle with much less than what Harry felt she deserved.

So, in this one moment of rationality, Harry quickly decided on the one thing he could do to stop her.

It didn’t take a genius to figure out the best and the easiest way to stop someone from thinking in such a situation and so, Harry didn’t have to spend too much brainpower on it.

He got up, went up to Jeanette, turned her face towards himself and went in for a long and deep kiss.

He had gotten such a sweet little thing in his life.

He was surely never going to let her go, no matter what obstacles came in the way.

It didn’t matter if it was a human, a demon or even some immortal.

He was going to destroy everything that stood in between him and his happiness.

Harry thought all of this as he went up to her.

But just as he started kissing, he realised one crucial thing.

One does not simply kiss a girl so easily.

That only happens in cliché romantic scenes.

And Harry didn’t feel one bit like the protagonist of a romance novel.

All the kissing experience he had was from movies or R-rated content.

He never had anyone to try it on.

So, naturally, it was probably the most horrible kiss anyone could do.

As a result, he himself cut short his “deep” kiss out of embarrassment.

But at least, that pathetic excuse of a kiss was still enough to stop Jeanette from thinking any further.

Embarrassed, Harry quickly exited the room while saying that he’ll go tell the servants to start shifting her stuff.

Jeanette herself was still sitting on the chair in Harry’s office, looking quite stunned.

She didn’t have any kissing practice either.

And though her first kiss was so pathetic that it was a stretch just to call it a kiss, she was still very happy about it.

A few seconds later, she realised that she was left alone in the room and quickie exited herself while making her way to get her things from her room.
