Part 1

Ding-Ding

The sound of the convenience stores doors opened as someone came in, of course, this someone was me Jōshō Ukai.

Today was one of the rare instances where I would go outside. This was the release day of the extremely hyped game that had the entire gaming community in hysterics after all! And one out of 50 stores in the entirety of Earth will contain a Limited first-day release of Super Jade Overdrive! Gift Of Pluck Edition. containing figures, trivia and more! So I decided to test my luck and fortunately, it pulled through! So I got my hands on the game, I mean I had to, after all, it is based on one of my favourite animes.

Even if I had to travel such an absurd distance to get it.

But now that I think of it doing such a feat must've used up a lot of luck.

"Hopefully the trip back home will be okay!".

Is what you thought I was going to Say!

But unlike those low-level Normies, who lack all kinds of 'basic' knowledge.

I'm not foolish enough to raise any death flags!

I'm pretty sure you just raised one right now.

I came to a convenience store to check if any new Manga had come out but...

~~~Growl~~~
A soft growl came from my stomach and a yawn from my mouth.
I haven't eaten nor slept in 2 Weeks.
How are you still alive?!
I'm simply built different.
And to prepare to grind all day along with work on restoring my energy, I decided to head over to the convenience store to stock up on some extremely "healthy" supplies.
He means junk food.
Hmmm?
looking through the snack section, deciding what to buy.
Ara, Should I go for Salt & Vinegar or Sour & Cream? White Or Dark Chocolate? A store brand Cola or the real deal?
I sighed, this task is more demanding than it needs to be.
After grabbing what I needed and putting it all in a plastic bag. I finally spotted the manga section and made my way over to it.
Well, this is why I first chose to come over here anyway.
I picked up the closest one next to me read the title and...
Armageddon Admiral Dreamers
I've already read it.
Amazing Dangerous Lady Road Iota
I've already read it.
Heaven Idol Eliminators
I've already read it.
Mistress X Corrector: Our Crusader Starship Weddings
I've already read it
Secret Trinity Gunsmith Robots
I've already read it.
No No No No No No No No No No No!
I dejectedly fell to the floor only being slightly propped up on all fours.
A-All of it...I-I've read all of it
I thought to myself stunned.
So this is the legendary Otaku I've heard so much about.
S-Shut up!
Before I could wallow in my pity any longer
"Hey, Kid! Get off the damn floor! We just had it cleaned yesterday!"
I was shouted at by a cashier after sheepishly nodding my head in response I made my way over.
But still, I can't believe I read every single Manga on that stand.
As I was paying for my items my thoughts were suddenly cut off by the sound of cracks and rumbling quickly followed by a rapid Pitter-Patter.
I see.
It was raining.
I walked out of the store. And made my way towards a Bus-Stop.
"Arhha! It's raining!"
Yes, I just said that.
I saw a girl who seemed to be about my age with a schoolbag covering her head while she ran on the road.
And she was holding a phone.
Hmmm... That school uniform looks familiar.
While I was interested in what she was doing out this late I decided it was best to ignore her.
Well, that was until I saw something that made my heart stop.
I struggled to make it out but judging by its Large shape, the speeds it was moving at, and the bright lights coming from the front.
It had to be a Truck.
Since she was on her phone she couldn't see it coming and she was running too.
At this rate, Sh-She'll be hit!
I.
You.
I.
You.
I.
You
I.
You.
I-I have to...
Y-You Have To...
Do nothing.
I thought to myself while immediately turning my head in the other direction.
Excuse me?
At the end of the day, it was her who chose to run on the road while distracted.
Sure I could do something.
But why should I? She's not my responsibility, is she?
That's right I'm just a normal guy who wants to go home and play games a mere mortal such as myself shouldn't be intervening with fate.
This is our protagonist by the way.
Judge me all you want but I'm neither right nor wrong In my decision.
That's right.
Closer.
It's none of my business.
Closer.
So let's just go home an-
It's coming even closer.
Dammit! Moving on my own without even thinking I pushed the girl away while shouting "Watch Out!".
Now turning around I was face to face with the Truck.
No. Rather I was face to face with Death.
There's not enough time for me to get out of the way.
"Wait! I think I might be having Seco-"
And before I could say 'nd thoughts!'...
Well.
We all know what's gonna happen next.
Part 2
Uh...Where am I?
I thought to myself while adjusting to my surroundings.
I knew for sure it wasn't Japan or rather Earth for that matter. The sky was, well hard to explain it was a multitude of colours mainly Pink, Orange and white.
But it was still beautiful nonetheless almost like a painting. The ground was...
Is this a fucking cloud?
I immediately stood up and sure enough, I was truly standing on a Grey Cloud.
I immediately got on my knees and scooped up a part of it then put it in my mouth.
Doesn't taste like anything?
I felt that I was going to sink if I stood still any longer and also
"Hey, Kid! Move we don't all day! How'd ya even get in front?"
There was a long line of people behind me and they seemed annoyed. But it was hard to believe when some of them were sitting on chairs Sunbathing.
That's right some were even playing table tennis, board games and...
We.Get.It!
Ok Ok Ok Ok Ok!
I picked up my belongings and started moving.
Also about those people? They looked kinda... Transparent. Some also seemed to be foreign.
While walking I look around the general area. Looking at the furniture, food. (Are those meatballs?) And I can see even more clouds in the distance!
This seemed like a pretty chill place. Possibly some kind of leisure centre?
And there I found myself face to face with a building that seemed to be modelled after a Courthouse.
Though there were differences between the ones here and the ones back home. One side of the building was pure white the material look to be made of wings.
It gave off a strong imagery of Light or rather Sacred.
The other side was mainly black decorated with red cursive lines.
It was somewhat similar to the wings of a bat to an extent.
And the middle was just solid grey.
So this is what an Art degree gets you?
It honestly looked weird but still had a pleasing atheistic.
As I gently pushed on the brown doors of the building I saw a muscular man with brown skin and curly hair.
His arms were incredibly thick. what did he even do to get them that big? The width of his chest!
Not only that his Thighs! Even his jawline...
This guy he's an absolute unit!
You're focusing on the wrong thing!
And His face so Handsome! Like why did no one warn me he'd be so handsome?
stop saying weird things! You should be worrying about where you are!
Huh? Where I am? That's true I don't know where I am.
Hmmm. I started thinking about all the things I saw.
Foreigners.
Long lines.
Meatballs.
Furniture.
Weird artistic design.
I gasped. Could this mean?
I see he's figured it out.
I'm in an Ikea?
He's hopeless!
But still taking a second glance at the Man. This time it sent shivers down my spine and gave me goosebumps.
Even I could tell he was a being on a completely different level, not something that should be insulted by the likes of me.
There was only one way to describe such a being.
God.
I nervously gulped. Should I say something? He seemed to be completely immersed in his work.
Flicking pages with an extremely stern look in his eyes. Maybe I should just go away.
But as I was thinking that I turned around and saw the line.
All of them were glaring at me.
If I turn around now especially after 'cutting' to the front...
I mustered up all my courage and in a stroke of luck
"Aa! Sorry about that... Yo uhh can you please wait over there"
He noticed my presence and immediately gave a request. Naturally, I obliged and closed the door behind me before sitting down.
I expected him to start talking to me but instead, he just carried on reading his paperwork as intently as before.
I guess this is why there was such a long line.
And after a few more minutes of reading, he gently placed down the work and started stretching.
"Man this weeks edition was Great!"
After letting out a loud yawn. He then looked at me and said
"So how can I help You?"
"..."
I couldn't really respond to his question. As I didn't know myself.
Why I was here.
How I got here.
Or what this place even is.
But now that the opportunity has presented itself I might as well ask where I'm currently located.
"Place?"
Only one word that could barely constitute as a question left my mouth.
I was still somewhat anxious, so I didn't expand on what I was saying and just prayed he would understand.
"Ahh, so you wanna know where you are huh?"
I nodded in response.
Thankfully he understood.
"Not much of a talker are you? Well that's fine you're probs still adjusting after all"
Though I was quite confused on what he meant by 'adjusting', I simply nodded my head.
"Well ummm Imma keeps it real with you bro, you're... Dead"
Ara Ara Kai, Dead? Is that all? For a second I thought he was going----
My thoughts came to an immediate stop as I processed what was told.
"EEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH!"
The yells of a lone boy echoed throughout The Afterlife.
Intermission Start!
In a dimension the size of two countries. There rests two deities.
They were tasked with looking after a planet, one which existence was being threatened by a Demon King, The Ruler Of All Monsters.
But instead of doing that, they were currently.
"Zzzz Go on brave heroes! Zzzz"
"Save--Zzzzz world!"
Napping.
Though little did they or anyone know that this would end up kick-starting a chain of bizarre events in the future.
But to find out what happens next.
Well.
You'll have to carry on reading!
Intermission Over!
"You okay, man?"
I nodded. Honestly, I was quite taken aback by the news.
To think I died. I don't even remember how. And the way he dropped it so casually.
"K, good so you should have some kind of idea where you are right?"
I nodded once more.
I don't get why dying brought me to an Ikea. But I chose not to question it.
Maybe because you're not in a-- Oh whatever
"So let me introduce myself"
He cleared his throat.
"I am The God Of The Afterlife, A being of Judgment, Heaven Or Hell? I decide. My name is Cody, nice to meet you"
I see.
To think Ikea was The Afterlife all along, truly a plot twist I never saw coming. Impressive Joy.
This explains everything.
The transparency of the people here.
Even though I was meant to be in Japan many of them looked foreign.
I can't help but--Wait.
My train of thought was cut off by a realisation.
Did he just say his name was Cody?
"You were just thinking something like 'Cody? What a lacklustre name for a God!' weren't you?"
"No"
"Yes, you were!"
Amazing.
Instantly catching onto what I was thinking. I expect no less from the God Of Ikea!
He's not the.
"Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! The same thing every single time! 'Huh Cody?', 'You're kidding right?', 'Pffft- No I'm not laughing haha!'"
He started ranting.
"You mortals really are the same. The moment you see me your eyes are filled with fear and respect, yet at the drop of a coin. You hear my name that all goes down the drain! Live a bad life and get shocked at a bad death?  Commit sins then get upset for being punished! Worship Gods that don't exist! What's wrong with you lot!? Honestly you Mortals need to be more consistent"
Not that what he said was wrong. But.
"Consistent? Consistent? Are you stupid? You went from casually telling me I died to ranting about respect! You be more consistent!"
His last words really got on my nerves so I snapped back.
"Ahhh! He actually talked back! See this is what I'm talking about! Are you quiet or talkative? Pick a lane and stay in it!
"Talkative? I said one sentence!"
"Now that's two!"
This bastard.
"Don't call me a bastard! I can hear your thought you know!"
"That's an invasion of privacy!"
"Now three!"
At this point, it was as if I was no longer conversing with a diety but rather a guild member who doesn't know their place.
This really reminded me that first impressions are everything.
"Know my place? How dare you! Actually, tell me your name Brat!"
"Jōshō! Jōshō Ukai!"
I loudly declared my family and given name.
Though instead of an immediate response there was a brief silence.
and then.
"Pffft-Hahah! J-Jōshō? Ukai? What kinda name is that? That sounds like something an author who gets all their information on Japan from anime would come up with!"
Kinda on the nose with that last bit.
The rest, however, Ara Ara Kai. Such arrogance I'm not even mad. To not know the might of the Ukai household.
I can only feel pity towards such weak 'gods'.
"We-Weak!? I can literally throw stars!"
Cap.
Bet I could throw stars if I tried.
"Oh yeah?"
I nodded.
A red glint appeared in Cody's eyes.
"Then prove it"
Huh?
"You heard me... Prove it"
Ummm well.
"What this! I thought the great Ukai clan was mightier than the Gods?"
Fine.
I stood up with great valour and walked over to him.
Now I'll show you!
Part 3
"Heal! Heal! Hea- hey Brokai stop moving!"
"Ahhhahahahh!"
Of course, the results were clear. Anybody especially a human attempting to lift anything the weight of a star would be severely injured.
I continued writhing around in pain.
Torn muscles.
broken arms and legs.
Fractured spine.
And many more.
I only survived since Cody-sama removed the weights at an amazing pace.
"K! I finished healing all your wounds you should be good to move around now!"
He was right. I could no feel longer my joints in places they shouldn't be amongst other things.
The reason for this was the phenomenon called magic.
Or that's my theory at least.
But despite being healed I can barely move anything only placing my near limp body back on the chair with all my might. I'm probably still suffering from shock.
Even though I failed, Cody-sama didn't look at me with eyes of contempt but rather respect.
As I was thinking, he then started clapping.
"Amazing! Brokai! I expected you to back down, but you still pushed through even when in the face of death! I take back everything I said about you!"
He nodded to himself.
"The spirit of a GymRat in your eyes! Do you work out? The lifting technique you position yourself into says a lot!"
He carried on.
"What's your personal record? Mine is around, wait for it...200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kilograms! It took a lot of time and effort but once I threw that star, I was sooooooo happy!"
This guy.
"Ooooh! Ooooh! Ooooh! Ooooh! And not only that I found a new product recently that helps with maintaining muscles mass during long breaks!"
I had a suspicion when I first walked in and saw his figure.
The way he talks about working out confirms it even further.
The God of Ikea Is a... Gymfreak!
"And! And- oh yeah! I forgot you died haha sorry"
It seemed he snapped out of his excitement and came back to reality.
I sighed. Ara Ara Kai what a quirky guy.
"Anyway, back on topic you've been here a while and after that healing session, you should have some kinda recollection on how you came here."
We both fixed our postures and he flashed me a serious look before saying.
"So I repeat once more! I am The God Of The Afterlife, A being of Judgment, Heaven Or Hell? I decide. My name is Cody, nice to meet you! So tell me Josho Ukai how did you come here?"
I then proceeded to tell him the events that transpired before I arrived here.
Starting from me entering the shop to the...
"After I pushed her out of the way, the truck ran over me and I well... Died"
End.
Cody was quiet for a moment before nodding his head while I was telling my story he had pulled out a file and was reading from it.
"Okay! everything seems to add up to what's said in the file"
He then gave me a somewhat worried look.
"Can you just repeat that last part?"
"I was ran over by a truck and died"
He looked at the file.
"One more time?"
"A.Truck.Killed.Me"
An audible gulp came from his throat.
"?"
"Ahhh! It's nothing don't worry about it, trust me! Ahahahah!"
I blankly stared at him. Well, that's not suspicious in the slightest.
Whatever. I just didn't get why he needed me to tell him what happened when he had it in written form.
Understanding what I was thinking he immediately replied.
"This is just a safety precaution since your memory could've gotten swapped with someone else on the trip here, ya know!"
"Wait wha-"
"Anyway! Now that, that's cleared up we can discuss what to do with your soul!"
No no no no.
Don't act like you totally didn't just cut me off right now.
"Huh? Cut off? Stop kidding! So here are the rundowns of the options!"
This guy. Maybe I should remove the honorifics when addressing him.
"So first is Heaven! You, mortals, are obsessed with this place and have an alright idea of what it's like! This is a realm where those with high amounts of positive karma are allowed to stay! we have resorts, pools, houses, towns, monsters and many more! You can also get hurt and age there it's kinda like living all over again but with beings from all across the Universe! You might even meet Gods, Angels, spirits, dragons and more! You are also free to visit other realms if you wish! Once your there we will assign you an angel to show you around."
He finished his brief explanation with a cheerful smile. Overall Heaven genuinely sounded great.
"Cool So I guess-"
Before I could say anymore I was immediately cut off.
"However"
Cody then directed a piercing gaze towards me. It did not carry any malicious intent but I couldn't help but hold my breath.
"Just looking at your file I can say with confidence that you don't have enough positive karma to make it into Heaven."
The gaze grew sharper.
"In fact looking at your background, it appears you've had a bit of an interesting reputation and past"
Dammit.
I wanted to avoid talking about 'that'.
Though instead of prying any further he just cleared his throat and eased his gaze. And continued talking.
"Next is Hell. You, mortals, have a pretty good grasp on this too. You will go through plenty of torture the intensity and length of the service will be based on the amount and type of sins committed when you were alive. Once finished you could either be sent into your next life, be free to wander Hell and live amongst its denizens or join us here at The Afterlife if lucky! Just remember that you can be killed in Hell and if a Devil takes your soul there's not much to do but hope they'll it go."
I see. I couldn't make out much of a response. But every cell in my body couldn't help but feel he was downplaying what truly goes on down there.
Just what I expected from Hell. Able to make me feel fear and remorse just from a brief description alone. The complete opposite of Heaven.
But Still the fact he's telling this to me, could it be?
Noticing the build-up of anxiety within me Cody smiled.
"Nah don't worry Brokai! You aren't horrible enough to get thrown there. But you can still go willingly maybe you can get lucky and find a rich Devil to take you in!"
No no. Why would anyone go to such a place voluntarily? Though getting picked up by a SugarDevil does sound quite appealing.
"Appealing huh? What a weird reaction, well that leaves only two options!"
Responding to my thoughts with a wry smile he carried on talking.
"Next is The Afterlife. This is place is for those who aren't too good to make it into Heaven but not bad enough for Hell. And guess what? You are already here! In this realm you are stripped of your body and are nothing more than a soul, being a soul here means you lose a sense of touch, smell and other senses, you also cant get sick and will be sent there as is with your current body so you can't age either. But on the positive side of things, there are things like board games, lounges and many more. You'll also be capable of communicating with other residents here no matter what race they are! So you can learn lots about other planets and their cultures isn't that great!? You'll be a Soul wandering around basking in the company of others till the end of time, however long that may be!"
I see. It's not great but I wouldn't say terrible after. Guess that's why it's a neutral plane.
I sighed. Just one thing caught me off guard.
"Cody"
"Yep!"
"By other senses does that include?"
"Yes it also includes taste meaning while you can eat you won't taste anything and also you can't gain any muscle no matter how hard you work out"
"NEXT!"
No! No! No! No! No!
No taste!?!? I refuse to let that be my future. There has to be a better option.
Please luck pull through for me once more!
"Eh! Really? You're perfectly eligible to reside here though? Oh well!"
Now it's time.
The final option.
Please let this one be good.
"Lastly, this option isn't exactly a realm or rather I guess it technically is one. For people who want another go at life. We have reincarnation. Your soul will be wiped clean and then sent out into Universe where it will find a new place to stay though whether you are reborn as a Fish, Plant, Human or another race is up to fate."
"That's it?"
"Uhh Yeah..."
That's all my options. One of them I can't get even get into.
The other one is high risk.
The next is an indefinite existence.
And last is essentially just destroying me.
Dammit. Dammit. Dammit.
"Are you sure!? How is that fair!? How can I get sent to Hell after dying then possibly die twice!? And why is The Afterlife so bland?! Do those who lived passive lives really deserve such meagre existence?! And reincarnation? How horrible! That's the same as wiping my existence!?!"
I started ranting out of frustration.
And as a response. Cody sent a glare that could silence a stadium.
This time it was truly piercing my skin. My body won't stop tingling.
He said nothing but everything at the same time.
"Look dude I'm sorry but that's just how it is. These are all decided based on how you live your life. If you truly dislike the options that you have then that's your problem. Next time live a more earnest life and you may get what you want."
Silence.
I had nothing to say in response to that.
I could say "B-but I didn't know let me try again!". But from a logical standpoint if you knew every and any action you do would end up deciding where you end up in death.
Will anything you do truly be honest.
I sighed once more.
So this is truly it.
Not even my luck can save me now. But despite thinking that, there was still a piece of me that hoped for a miracle.
"However..."
I looked on in anticipation.
"There is a reincarnation programme made especially for souls like you who would often regret dying young"
Could this be?
"It essentially sends you to Planets that are in peril and asks you to go ahead and save it acting as a Hero sorta!"
He continued.
"This can also increase your positive Karma rating or if the rating still isn't high enough but I or any other God feel the Job you did was good enough, then you would be eligible to go to Heaven!"
Finally a glimmer of hope.
But now that I think of it.
Isn't becoming eligible for Heaven eerily similar to applying for a good college.
I decided not to think too deeply into it.
"Really then do-"
"But I don't recall reviewing any requests from other Gods to send a soul over"
Just like that, the hook was taken away from me before I could leap at it.
I sighed.
Guess it's ove- No! I won't give up now.
"Are you sure! Like really really sure? Check again! Please check once more!"
I began begging him to check again. If there's even a chance, then it has to happen.
Though it gets in the way occasionally. When I really need it my luck doesn't fail me.
That's right! I didn't earn the infamous title of the Strongest Delinquent, for no reason!
That's not an achievement!
"Okay Okay fine! Look I'm not receiving any requ--"
His speech was cut off. And then.
"Well look at that. You really are fortunate! I just received a request from two deities! Ughh? It's those two!? I thought they were already finished whatever. I guess you can get a true second chance after all!"
YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!
Though he didn't seem too fond of them.
I couldn't help but jump up and raise my fist in the air as euphoric pleasure ran through my body.
"S-So uhh.. can I go?" I asked timidly.
"Of course just a quick question?"
I nodded.
"Actually forget it, Just stand over there!"
He said while pointing at an area and with that action, a luminescent blue circle appeared on the ground.
I guess it was magic after all.
"Okay, I will begin sending you over there be sure not to move while this is happening."
I complied with his orders. But still, I looked at him with caution.
This is safe, right?
He nodded.
"Don't worry just follow my orders and you'll be fine Brokai!"
Honestly, when did I even give him permission to give me a nickname.
But going out of his way to try and help me find another chance at life.
Healing my injuries.
His quirky nature.
Was enough to make me trust him.
The God Of Ikea is a good guy.
I nodded towards him and he started chanting.
Though before I go, there was just one more thing I wanted to know.
"When I came here there was a big hold up in the line"
"Yeah?"
"I get that you have work and all but what was the reason?"
Though it's probably something that I might not understand. I would like to be able to help even if it's only by a little.
"Ahh! that's because I was reading this weeks release of Jade Sister haha!"
Well, that makes pe-
Did he just say Jade Sister?
"Isn't that the extremely popular anime and manga series that Just released a game today?"
The same game I went out of my way to buy.
"Oh? You've heard of it? That's great! Yeah, I think I'll get the game this week or after sending you over! Also that's Nineteen!"
No no no.
You should be doing your job instead of reading manga and buying games.
I think I might have to rethink my views on this guy
Also, did he say nineteen? Don't tell me he's still keeping count.
But before I could begin to protest.
"Well, that's it! See ya later Brokai, hopefully, you can make it!"
I was warped through space itself.
Part 4
Opening my eyes I found myself standing in an area, unlike anything I've seen before.
Sakura blossoms decorated the vast grasslands which seemed to have a slight glow to them.
The sky was filled with white stars.
And in front of me were two entities.
I was immediately captivated by their raw beauty.
One had bright flowing hair with a multitude of warm colours painting it. It was almost as if it was emitting its own heat. I felt that even in the vacuum of space it would still flow freely and provide warmth.
She seemed to be taller than me by maybe 4 to 6 inches. And had a slim build with thin lips. Wearing a Sari that complimented her figure with a matching colour scheme.
The man was also quite similar to her.
His hair was long, incredibly so, the length had surpassed the woman's and even spread out to the grass.
Like mine, it was a Jet black reminiscent of the night sky but unlike mine, this one had white dots identical to stars painting it.
Contrasting to the women's hair, his one didn't flow but rather stood still. I was sure that even with a fan behind him, his hair still wouldn't move.
He also had a slim build with thin lips though instead of a sari he was wearing a hanfu almost like an emperor.
And finally to end it all.
Behind the two of them was a celestial body which looked identical to a Solar eclipse.
Yet staring at it caused no damage to my eyes.
I then took in my surroundings once more. And Sighed a breath of relief.
Ara Ara Kai.
It seems my travel over here came smoothly.
When Cody showed an unreliable side of him I got worried he would mess up and send me to Hell or something.
So guess that confirms it.
The feeling I get from looking at them is similar to when I first met Cody.
The two beings in front of me. Are in fact...
Gods.
So I guess that means they're the ones who summoned me here.
Which is great and all but the only issue is...
"Ahhh-Zzzzz-Ahh-zzz"
"He-zzz-roZzzz"
They were sleeping.
Not knowing what to do I just sat on the floor in a Seiza in an attempt to look presentable.
Again. This feels too similar to applying for a college.
Or rather at this point, a Job interview.
Ara Ara Kai, what do I do now.
Touching someone while they sleep isn't a crime or anything. But these two are quite attra- literal Gods making it a high-level quest for me.
You were going to say attractive, weren't you?
No!
Yes you were!
No I wasn't!
Th-This guy...
I sighed. Maybe these two are just as unique as Cody which would make it way easier to talk to them.
No actually. I don't think that's an entirely good thing if true.
I then looked at them once more. And held my breath.
Before releasing a cough.
Please wake up...
And sure enough.
"Zzzz-Ahhh! uhhh? Ahh who's there!?"
They had woken up in perfect synchronisation.
I didn't know how to feel about a mere cough being enough to wake these two up.
But I rolled with it.
After a couple of yawns and stretches the two seemed fine within seconds.
Being able to wake up so easily. I'm honestly envious.
Though I stopped my gaze once the two began staring straight at me.
For the first time, I had seen their eyes.
The man had a black iris and a curved bright yellow pupil like a crescent moon.
While the women had pure silver eyes that looked like marble. At first glance, it's hard to differentiate between her pupil and sclera, but the line becomes more defined the longer you stare.
What incredibly stark beauties.
I could feel my heart pounding. But whether it was for the right reason is a discussion for another day.
"So how can we help you?"
The woman was the first to speak.
I kept silent.
"Teehee don't be shy little one, could it be you've passed away?"
The man spoke next.
I nodded.
I've indeed passed away.
"I see it must've been a poor experience for you. But don't worry, as it's not the end!"
The women spoke next.
"He's right! Depending on your wishes you can either be reincarnated back to Pandora or we can have you reborn on a peaceful planet!"
"Yep! No Demon King! Nothing! Or if that's not your style then we can send you over to another God who will decide where you belong!"
As the two were explaining what my options were.
I couldn't help but feel they were misunderstanding something.
"Cody"
I chose to say his name. Hopefully, they would understand just from hearing it.
"!"
The two stopped talking.
"Eh?"
"Wh-what did you say?"
"Cody"
"I see. So you've died before! That's how you know his name?"
I shook my head. This is my first time dying as far as I'm concerned.
"Eh? Th-then how?"
"Hero"
I decided to just respond with what I was told. Cody said they requested someone to be a Hero candidate.
So maybe that would jog their memory of summoning me.
"Huh? Do you mean you were brought here for the reincarnation programme?!"
I nodded.
"That makes no sense we should've just dispatched the last batch of people a while back?"
"Yeah! Yeah! I remember it was the handsome one with blue eyes he was the last!"
The two then seemed to be deep it thought.
"Okay let's go through all our actions"
"We gave Ascalon to the blue-eyed boy and sent him on his journey"
"Yep! And then we took a na-- we rested our eyes for a moment"
She was going to say nap wasn't she?
"Yeah but before 'resting' our eyes I recall wishing we had more candidates"
"Yeah, same! I even had a dream about it!"
The women and I placed our gaze on the man.
"Ohh really? Luna, I implore you to tell me what happened in that dream of yours?"
Don't tell me.
"Wh-Why are you two looking at me like that? Anyway we 'rested' our eyes wishing for more candidates and I had a dream about it. In there I was talking to Cody begging him give us a few more candidates, he said he would if I outlift him so I attempted it and managed to beat him!"
Though mine had eased a bit. The women gaze was more of a glare now and the man (I think it was Luna?) Started sweating.
"Th-then I-umm came back he-here waited a good amount of time. And I..."
"You?"
"Well, you know? S-Sent a requu-est to him for mor-more candidates... Oh sh-"
Before he could his sentence the women sent him flying.
I see. So it's that kinda relationship.
At least I know who the smart one is.
"Ahhh, soo there seems to be a bit of a mishap"
I raised an eyebrow as a response. Who could've guessed?
"Well, at least it wasn't my fault this time! Ahh! Well, let me introduce myself my name is Celestia and I'm the Goddess of The Sun!"
"And my name is Luna I'm the God of The Moon!"
"!"
How'd he come back so quickly? I was sure she hit him a few thousand kilometres and he has no visible injuries.
They then looked at me with anticipation. I see it's my turn for an introduction.
"Jōshō Ukai"
I gave nothing more than my name.
"Pffft- N-nice to meet you Ukai-san!"
"Tee- yeah-hee, Same!"
They're laughing, aren't they?
"Likewise ponies"
"Eh? Ponies? Whatever since your aware of  being a candidate you should know of our situation?"
Luna said to me.
I shook my head.
All I know is that I could get sent to another world and live once more and--
Wait!
Another world! Suddenly a tingle wouldn't stop going through my brain.
Another world!
Another world!
Another world!
As an Otaku, I couldn't help but feel shame at not noticing earlier.
My O.S (Otaku sense) was ringing like crazy.
"Well in that case!"
"We have one question for you!"
Here it comes. It starts with I and ends with i.
It has to be!
The two then looked at each other and smiled.
And in perfect sync asked.
"Do you like games?"
After giving my obvious response the two then began to explain their problem to me.
In the universe, there exists countless planets.
One of those is a Planet called Pandora. A parallel to Earth.
In that world there exists monsters, Magic, classes, fantasy races and many more!
However, the world is currently under threat from The Demon King and their army.
Due to this, the world Is currently facing crisis and thousands are dying.
This in turn causes those who were born in Pandora to not want to reincarnate back there out of fear of death.
Which then means a lower population as nobody is being reborn. So even if the Demon King doesn't succeed in taking over the wold, the planet might die out due to a lack of people.
So not only is the reincarnation programme for helping worlds. But it can also help increase the population of a planet or increase the amount of karma one has.
Well, that's the gist of it anyway.
That description alone was very reminiscent of the plotlines of old school RPG games.
I couldn't help but get excited.
"But you're probably wondering how can we send you off to a world when you can't even speak the language?"
"Don't worry about that! Through the use of 'God Magic,' we'll implant all knowledge of the common language in that world right into your brain! The only downside is a chance your brain will go poof! But that's only if your unlucky or have low storage"
"Did you just say my brain could go Poof?"
"No I didn't"
"Yes you did!"
Suddenly I was feeling sceptical. Also, why did she say Low storage? Did she mean intellect? I'm not an android you know!
"Anyway don't move! Seriously"
I didn't even have enough time to protest and within seconds I could feel my brain, how do I say it? 'Swishing'.
But it eventually faded away and I gently rubbed my head. Yep. I can definitely see words and writing I don't think I've seen before.
It must've been a success.
After visually confirming I was okay. The two sighed.
"Whew! That was a close one!"
"What do you mean by that?!"
"No-Nothing anyway!"
This women.
Luna then took over.
"That's not all! After all the people in that world are used to monsters so they tend to have a higher battle potential than any earthling! So sending you off to a world where you're disadvantaged by your very biology is quite cruel no? That's why we have another amazing offer for you!"
He continued.
"So to help you out on your journey we will give you one thing! A cheat in other words! it can be anything Ranging from Superhuman strength to an insane ability that's absolutely broken or it can something like a legendary weapon!"
He then clicked his fingers. And a book as if tearing through space appeared before me.
"That book has a plethora of cheats within it! Just choose one that's to your liking and we'll send you on your way!"
Finally!
I'm 16 years old.
I'm Japanese.
I died by truck.
And now I'm gonna get sent to another world with a cheat skill.
I've done it, I've become an Isekai protagonist!
That's means I could get a harem.  Oooh! What kind? Maybe a mixed harem? Should it be all humans?
What kinda cheat? Should I go for a close-range weapon like a sword? Or long-range like a bow? Maybe I should focus on defence and get some kinda armour? Actually maybe a broken skill would be the better choice.
I could barely hold back my tears.
I then opened the book.
And.
No!
This can't be!
I continued flicking. But no matter how many pages I run through.
All I can see is pure white.
Every page was blank.
"Umm Ukai-san... Is there an issue?"
Luna called out to me watching me hurriedly flick through pages.
"Blank"
"Huh?"
"Pages. Blank"
He snatched the book from my hands and started going through it.
"How!"
The two of us then turned our gaze towards a certain someone.
She had been quiet this entire exchange.
Celestia.
"Hey! Hey! Celes-chan~ could it be you have any idea where the rest of the cheats have gone?"
Luna said with a smile. Even though the grin was large and toothy... His eyes told a different tale.
"S-So you umm seee"
"Spit it out. Now."
"So while I was chilling with Usamaz he was telling me about how he's having struggle finding a candidate which Ascalon likes! So I told him "Just give it to me!" But he then explained the worth of Ascalon as it is a sword made especially for dragon slaying! So I decided we could use it for dealing with our Demon King! And well... I could only have it If I give something of equal value I so I gave him all... Oh shi-"
And before she could finish her story.
She was sent flying.
I see. So it's that kind of rela-- No wait! Haven't we done this gag already?
Though I guess I take back what I said about her being the smart one.
They're both idiots.
I sighed.
Ara Ara Kai.
It wouldn't be my life if it was simple.
"That explains why she was so persistent in him taking the blade, she got lucky. Well sorry about that! we could give you a couple of our blessings?"
No no no.
After everything that's just happened, I would genuinely rather turn my back on a lion or bare my teeth at a silverback.
"Nothing else?"
I asked a simple question. That can't honestly be all.
"Apart from our blessings, there's not much we can do Sorry about that"
"It's your fault he's like this right now"
Appearing just as quickly as she left, Celestia sat back in place next to Luna.
I let out a sigh of defeat.
I thought I was going to be the protagonist of an Isekai.
The main character of an Old School RPG.
But instead, I'm just the main lead of a Scribblehub novel.
How lame.
If only I was a member of a stereotypically powerful race.
Like Demon.
Elf.
Beastman.
Or Angel.
Angel.
Angel!
I then remembered an RPG where the main character of the first game Is an Arch-Angel who's lost their wings.
Though I won't be able to change my race.
Any great Hero has a companion.
"Angel"
"Huh?"
"I want an Angel as my cheat"
"Ehh?! We can't do that?!?!"
The two said at the same time.
"Why not?"
"Why N-Not?! That's a whole person we can't just force one to join you?!"
"Then get one that's willing"
"Y-You do know your talking to a God, right? My fear of red eyes won't sway me!"
"And?"
"And he says! And! What's with this guy!"
"Yeah! Yeah! I get you're mad but that doesn't mean you have to be defiant!"
Dammit.
They're still not budging.
"Whatever just send me to Cody, I'll talk to him"
"Hey! Hey! Chill now!"
'"Yeah! Look I just scanned every Angel and gave them a rundown on your situation and one of them is willing to party up with you!"
So it wasn't that difficult after all.
What did Cody do to them?
Knowing him, he probably made them go through an intense workout.
I send my condolences.
But now that, that's sorted.
All that's left is too stand up and get ready to leave.
I picked up my plastic bag. Making sure everything was still in there.
"Well we can't be too rude to you, especially after how you died"
"Yeah the least we can do is give you a partner, be sure to treat them properly! Also stand right over!"
How I died? I'm pretty sure being run over by a truck is typical for protagonists of my genre.
At least in fiction, it is.
Though being reminded of my death had made me think of a question I forgot to ask Cody.
Something I really need to know.
I looked towards the two of them.
"What? Don't tell me you still have more complaints!"
Luna looked at me with eyes of disbelief.
I shook my head.
"Do you have my file?"
"Huh? Oh yeah, what about it?"
I gulped.
"The girl I pushed, is she okay?"
"She lives! But you fractured her arm and leg and I think her ribs too! you should be careful next time"
I see.
Though it's unfortunate to know she still suffered damage.
She could've died otherwise so I guess the ends justify the means.
I'm glad my death wasn't in vain.
"She would've lived anyway! That tractor was too slow!"
"....."
Celestia then chimed in and said something completely unnecessary.
"Eh?"
"Hmm? You didn't know? Did Cody not tell you? You didn't by die by truck but rather tractor"
"Yeah for some reason you saw it as a truck so when you pushed her out of the way your body genuinely believe you died and killed itself by entering cardiac arrest"
"....."
I then thought back to my conversation with Cody.
I see. So that's why he reacted that way.
So I essentially killed myself by accident.
But how did I mistake a tractor for a truck?!
Also, I'm only 16  how could I have a heart attack?!
"Well, Sayonara Jōshō Ukai! Hopefully, the next time we cross paths is once you've defeated the Demon King and brought peace to Pandora! Also, we forget to mention the Hero who defeats the Demon King gets a reward and that is one wish with that you are free to ask for anything no matter how big! Good Luck!"
"Hey wait-"
But Before I could pry any further.
I was warped through space once more and found myself.
With my back to the ground facing the blue sky.
For those reading get ready to hear the tale of the boy who caught the ire of a general of The Demon King Army.
Yet despite being teamed up with a group of misfits still managed to come out on top and claim victory in the end.
But that's a story for another time!
So for now.
Welcome to Pandora Jōshō Ukai!
