“I always wondered if there was something after death… Guess I will find out”

My name is Nicolas Roger Smith, six foot five inches with black ash hair and blue eyes. I am not exactly fit in my form… Well to be honest... I work out on the treadmill 30 minutes per day, but I don’t lose weight. Something about my body just not processing things properly according to my doctors anyways. Listen I try, okay?! It isn’t easy to keep off the weight!

I am an office worker hired by a company that handles transporting for global shipments. My average day goes along like this: Wake up, shower, cook, check the weather before heading to work, do my 10 hours before heading home to cook, shower, game a bit in my down time before sleeping in my comfortable bed. One day I was informed by my management that the company was having a mandatory outing. One of those times where a company makes you interact with your coworkers outside of the day-to-day operations. Though…now that I think about it…Why did I even mention my name…Is it that important?

Anyway I digress... I only know that my time I normally spend gaming is what I enjoy. Work to relax right? That was always my day-to-day motto! That motto is what kept me going despite anything that came up in my time, so of course a mandatory outing? I wasn’t that interested, to be frank, I didn’t enjoy socializing with my co-workers all that much. I found it a pain to pretend to care about others and the things they were interested in, but it is not like I had much of a choice.

I found myself at one of those public parts that you can often rent if you have enough money, it was just off the highway in a business district. A place that the politicians in my local area said was “the best place to relax!”, so of course my company had to have the “best”. About 300 of us showed up, some bringing their families or friends, of course I didn’t have anyone.  I got out of my car with headphones in my ear wearing my casual black gym shorts that covered just below my knees and black hoodie that covered my form. Before I got called out by someone, I considered the closest thing to a friend.

“Yo Nick! Isn’t that a bit too casual?”

His name is Richard Dark, a short five foot even male, blonde hair blue eyes. Married to an ex swimsuit model with 3 kids. To be honest, she hadn’t put on any weight, that bastard, doesn't he know how hard it is to find a good woman?!

“What’s up Dark? Maria with you today?”
Dark smiled hearing that running his palm through his hair almost smirking, he was proud of his wife. “She hasn’t arrived yet, her and the kids are supposed to show up a bit later. Bringing her famous pasta”

I smiled weakly towards Dark knowing that he was excited to eat it. Maria often didn’t cook things that were bad for Dark’s health, that pasta was obviously included as “unhealthy”. I found myself walking over towards Dark and standing next to him staring at the parking lot across the busy highway, the soundproof barriers doing their absolute best to remove the sounds of the driving vehicles speeding past. They did their job; you couldn’t tell that we were currently in the middle of a big city with hundreds of thousands around us.

“Well that is good to hear at least. You can eat something that isn’t exactly on your normal plate huh? What was it last night, Kale again?” I found myself smirking back towards Dark.

Dark began to frown, hearing that before punching my arm softly, “The hell man, if she hears you saying that I will be eating it for a month, keep it quiet.”

I found myself chuckling at his actions, I view this man as probably my only friend.

Time ticked by, food was getting served and I sat on the edge of it all. Refusing to get too close to my coworkers like the introverted recluse I am. A SUV pulled into a parking spot against the road, though I was not paying that much attention to it, in fact it barely registered inside of my mind at all. I did not understand it till I saw Maria getting out of the car with her two toddlers. I got up with the intent to help her carry the food, even if I am an introvert, I still care enough about my friend’s wife and kids.

The crosswalk’s lights changed from yellow to red marking it was okay for people to cross so I stood ready to help her and the kids. I did not notice however the sound of music and a revving engine, the music in my ears was simply too loud at first.

My body moved on its own. For the first time in my life my body moved on pure instinct. Then there was pain and a scream, Maria’s scream. My vision blurred and I could see Maria and her two boys on their knees on the side of the road. I tried to look at the rest of my body…Well not much left there. I investigated the sky thinking to myself once more.

At least I did something good with the last moment of my life…I always wondered if there was something after death… Guess I will find out

My world faded to black.

The sound of nothing…

The feeling of something heavy...

This was the last moment of my life... it could be worse…
