Apparently not everyone can use it, I wonder what I can do.

We finished cleaning and I took mothers hand walking with her towards the grand hall. The plan today is for my mother to test my magic affinity. Even without the blessings of status, apparently I can train in various ways for when my status is gifted upon me.

We arrived down a separate passage in a large hall, several giant circles drawn in what appears to be red paint of some kind are drawn along the walls, floor and ceiling. She walks over to a wall and places her hand on it making a small chant, a circle appears and the wall begins to hum. The wall shifts revealing dozens of bags and devices on a large shelf that goes from the floor to the ceiling,  a ladder appears and slides over the shelf seemingly ready to be used, she climbs onto the ladder grabbing one of the small bags before stepping off the ladder. The ladder and wall shifted back to appearing as a blank slate, the whole process shocked me.

Syvis: “Wow...that is magic mom?! That was amazing! I couldn’t even tell it was there!”

Nimue: “Of course dear, all the artifacts along the halls of the inner palace are important, but the true strongest artifacts are kept there in the safe, this room itself is sealed by blood, the blood of the women of our family, only we can open this safe.”

I was guessing by her beautiful face breaking into a smile that my mother found my face amusing,. That smile caused me to try to fix myself and correct my face by smacking my cheeks and making a serious face. Ready to do whatever she asked of me in order to figure out my attributes for magic. The reason for the test is because not everyone has the ability to learn every type of magic, so it was exciting for me, I would be sorely disappointed to be one of the ones without any aptitude at magic at all!

Mother brought out a crystal about four times larger than the bag it came out from. Once again my mother began to giggle seeing my reaction, I covered my face with my palms and shook my head around before once again staring at her. The enlarged crystal was see through with strange swirling grey wisps that appeared to be like compressed air moving without any sense of rhyme or reason. She placed it on a metal ring in front of me on the ground, she keeled down in front of the crystal and placed her palms on top of it. After a swift moment the grey wisps of air began to take the form of various shapes, I could see ice, a ball of what appeared to be a bright light, and a strike of electricity glowing yellow.

Nimu: “As you can see, I can use three attributes, <Ice>, <Holy> and <Thunder> magic. My strongest is <Holy> which is why it shines so bright, my second strongest is <Ice>, and my weakest is <Thunder>. They are advanced magic attributes, in the magic system. I am unable to use <Basic> elements without hard training, and even then it would not be worth my time. Normally only those elves who are true scholar’s or mages would invest their time in a magic system they are not compatible with.”

She took her palms off the crystal and leaned towards me with a gentle look once more, seemingly ready for me to do the same as her. I looked towards the orb with an intense look staring at the orb, my hands shaking as I reached out to take the orb. It felt like hours passed as my hands traveled, sweat pouring down my face. I have no idea why I felt so tense with learning what I can use. The prospect of it all made my blood boil with excitement and worry wanting to do the best this time in my life.

I touch the orb, closing my eyes tightly, fear making me scared of the results. I felt something warm between my palms, the sensation of warmth flowing through my arms, through my chest and down towards my heart. The feeling bloomed wildly before I could feel the warmth flowing back towards the crystal, before opening an eye to see it, though I saw my eye was focused on my mother

My mother’s face was wide, seemingly in shock, the sight of it caused me to look down towards the crystal, the wisps of smoke were moving crazily, shifting forms and colors. None of them were solid in shape moving rapidly between each other. I released the crystal and held up my palms looking at them for a moment before focusing on my mothers face once more.

Mother snapped out of it before gently taking my palms and stared into my eyes. I hesitated, scared of what it meant, was I broken? Was I unable to use magic? Then a smile appeared on her face holding my hands tightly.

Nimue: “You really are my miracle child Syvis, you are an amazing child. You are going to outshine me by the greatest lengths. I will definitely plead with father to get you into the academy, to train your skills with the best of the best. You can use all magic, you hold no limits in your abilities. To start, I will teach you <Thunder>, <Ice> and <Holy> myself, several of the priestesses can use magic as well, so starting today let us train.”

While mom was speaking, something occurred that I had seen last month, the white text appeared.

<The skill <The Ancient Archives> has evolved into <Ancient Memories>>

<Using the effects of <Ancient Memories>, Would you like to archive, <Magic Crystal>? Would you like to archive <Nimue Sylzana>?>

I hesitated for a moment before silently saying yes in my mind. The words glow before fading away silently this time. I don’t know why, but this time I didn’t see things nor did I get any weird feelings. A sense of comfort filled me and that was it.

Mother took the crystal and the metal frame away, placing them back into the bag, before returning them back into the wall safe. I watched her feeling a sense of excitement, clenching my fists tightly together ready for anything. She walked over to me and folded her arms together before stepping in front of me.

Nimue: “Let us start with <Holy>, its system is simple, it’s primary focus is: for the purification of evil, banishment of the undead and True Demons from the abyssal planes. It also encompasses Healing and Oracles, the ability to speak with the gods. To learn to use this system, the easiest way is to be healed.”

Mother places her palms on top of mine, her palms glowing gently and the warmth of it fills my hands. I close my eyes to focus on the sensation of it all, trying to take it in. The white words appeared once more filling my vision:

<Magic Control>, <Holy Magic>, <Magic Analyzation>, <Thunder Magic>, <Ice Magic> have been learned. <Magic Control> and <Magic Analyzation> have merged into <Magic Manipulation> to go along with this, <Magic Sense>, <Magic Scanning>, <Status Modification> have been acquired.

I blinked in confusion staring at the words, it once again appeared on my face as mother gently smiled towards me again.

Nimue: “Ah, I guess it is the first time you have seen them, the words of the universe.”

I nodded up to her, a bit confused by all the words and what they meant, I could only listen and wait for her explanation. I had seen such words before, but perhaps now I could understand where they came from and what all they meant.

Nimue: “Well, the words of the universe are a gift from the gods, it is a way for those blessed with status, to be able to know when our status gets updated. Things like “level up” or “X statistic has increased” appear whenever one of our skills or magic grows stronger.”

I bit my bottom lip and nodded in understanding before taking her palms in my hands, closing my eyes to focus. I gently remembered the feeling I had when she poured her <Holy> into me in an attempt to do the same to her, the feeling of warmth coming from my palms and into hers.

<Holy Magic has increased from 1 to 2>

I open my eyes, feeling my heart beating in excitement, I look up into her eyes hoping for something good to come from this. I once again see my mothers smiling face before she hugs me into her bosom once more.

Nimue: “My beautiful baby girl, so talented, so skilled.  I am so happy that you were born, so happy that you were born here, that the gods blessed you upon me. I want to see where you go in this world. Once you are old enough upon your 50th birthday, I plan on retiring as a priestess and become a normal citizen of our country, so I can walk the same path as you.”

My eyes teared up, just enjoying the warmth and smell of my mother. Wanting nothing more than to never lose this feeling ever. I found something important to me, that I never, ever want to let go.
