CHAPTER 31

Sparks fly in the urban skies. From afar, it would look like a grand and long fireworks display. But the truth is, the sky is now a full-fledged warzone between five dragons.

In her Cyber Angel Dragon Form, Deva is struggling to keep up with the four dragons. She can easily take one or two dragons at a time, but four dragons are too much. Besides, the four dragons have this invaluable teamwork.

Cyber Angel Dragon tried slashing the Lightning Dragon first, but the Boulder Dragon would just shoot out giant rocks from its mouth. If she attacks the Boulder Dragon, the Leaf Dragon would barrage her with razor-sharp petals. The Water Dragon would blow out explosive bubbles if she targets the Leaf Dragon. If she fights the Water Dragon, the Lightning Dragon would unleash electric bolts.

The close range was no longer an option for my Cyber Angel Dragon, so she decided to use long-range. She pointed her sword wings against her enemies and fired lasers from a distance. The dragons would just easily evade or block those barrages of projectiles.

Two dragons started chasing my Cyber Angel Dragon. Deva tried to escape, looping around skyscrapers and evading all projectiles the Water Dragon and Lightning Dragon unleashes at her.

Seeing that Deva is now on the defensive, Claire Magnus laughed out loud. “What’s wrong, Deva? Is the ally of justice turning her tail now? Wahahahahaha!”

Cyber Angel Dragon did not answer. Instead, her mind is only focused on one thing: to lure them into the designated place.

“Now!” Deva’s telepathy rang inside my skull.

“Roger. Good work, Deva.” I grinned.

I unleashed mana that sparked the tips of my fingers. And then…

A series of loud explosions echoed in the urban district. A total of six buildings unleashed smoke from their very foundations.

“What the… What the hell is this!?” Claire Magnus’ eyes opened wide.

The six buildings started to fall in a slanting manner. It became dominos that knocked out the six other skyscrapers that Claire Magnus’ company-owned. Those six skyscrapers then fell towards the Magnus Tower; the very place where our assassination target resides.

The fall of the buildings also hit the skyscraper where the Boulder Dragon is stationed. Since it cannot fly, it just fell when the series of buildings collapsed. One of the buildings also hit the Water Dragon when it fell, so that’s two more dragons down.

The ground trembled long and hard. The falling of the buildings created a quake that is comparable to magnitude seven. Thousands of civilians cried as they run away in terror.

We’re no longer doing an assassination task. This is terrorism.

We had to resort to this as Claire Magnus, a five-star Dragon Sage has the highest-profile on the list. An assassination is useless against her. We have to fight with combined tactics and brute force. There is no other way to do it. My Timeline Prediction said that unless we resort to this means, we can’t win.

The majority of the civilians have evacuated the battlefield ever since Deva appeared anyway.

To explain the collapse of the buildings, I shall tell this: I’ve come prepared. During the past few nights, Yehanna infiltrated and planted the magic remote bombs to the foundation of those six skyscrapers.

I had computed the right angle where it should explode, the way it should fall, and the other literal domino effect it could cause. The moment we planted those bombs in the right place, our chance of winning is already above seventy percent.

All I had to do is to wait for the right moment, and remotely detonate the bombs with my magic.

Unfortunately, the Leaf Dragon and the Lightning Dragon are still there to fight Cyber Angel Dragon. But I know Deva can handle it herself, so I should focus on other things that needed more push.

I touched my earpiece and shouted. “Plan A Phase 2 Complete! Proceed to Phase 3!”

“Alright!” The person on the other side of the radio said. “Commence Phase 3! Go! Go! Go!”

I heard loud engine noises from a distance. I looked at the main highway at the west and saw SUVs, vans, and limousines all rushing towards the battlefield. They went to the epicenter of the calamity and stopped when the road is already blocked by debris. And then, hundreds of people wearing tuxedos and shades abandoned their vehicles.

They are the Jogudra Mafia, and they have armed themselves with their cheap magic guns. They started to storm the center of the district, firing their guns against the police and Claire Magnus’ small army who survived the great collapse. The mafia is now doing what they can to reach the collapsed Magnus Tower.

At the skies, the dragon dogfight continues. At the ground, a gunfight ensues. This is pure chaos.

There were no signs of Claire Magnus after the collapse of her tower. Deva’s eyes can no longer locate her. But I know she’s still alive. She’s a strong Dragon Sage, and a collapsing building would be a lame way to die for a military general like her who knows a vast amount of magic.

It’s been ten minutes, but I haven’t had news of her since. I’m getting impatient, so I activated my unique magic.

“Overclock. Timeline Prediction Activate.”

[Timeline Prediction Activated]

“Predict Claire Magnus’ survival at this point.”

[Claire Magnus’ survival in this timeline is 97%]

[Timeline 127 predicts that she is most likely hiding in the debris to prevent detection. There is also a 100% chance that she will call for backup as of this moment]

“Backup?” I asked myself.

I looked at the skies and saw four helicopters pass above me. Those are not media choppers but combat helicopters from the army. I looked down and saw APCs and tanks taking the southern and northern highways.

I do not worry about the army that our enemy is summoning. Those choppers cannot see very well in this type of ruins, and the tanks cannot enter a road full of debris. The moment they can enter the battlefield, we’ve already killed Claire Magnus.

I’m more worried about a specific call for backup.

[Warning: Timeline 128 suggests that the army is being commanded by Claire Magnus herself. The same timeline also suggests that ambushes are waiting for the Jogudra Mafia on the battlefield]

“Oh?” I scoffed. Then I commanded my very own intelligent brain. “Simulate Claire Magnus in this timeline, five seconds in advance.”

[Simulation of Timeline 128 Ready]

[Simulation Accuracy: 99%]

[Simulating in three… two… one…]

My vision turned into a kaleidoscope of the future. At the center of my vision, is a round mirror that shows Claire Magnus still inside her glass bunker. She only suffered a small wound on her forehead due to the collapse of her tower, nothing else.

However, it is evident on her face that she suffered more damage to her pride than on her physical body.

Claire Magnus is in front of a screen that scans heartbeats in a kilometer range. The strobing heartbeats on her screen are marked as her men, while those steady heartbeats are marked the mafia.

“Those damn mafia insects! Collaborating with Deva and blasting my buildings to pieces! I will kill you all! Don’t think you can win from me!” Claire Magnus smiled menacingly. She grabbed a radio from her uniform and talked. “Bravo Three, flank them to point 5278E.”

I know I must act too, so I touched my earpiece. “Jogudra Five, wait at point 523E. Soldiers will be ambushing you there.”

“Delta One set your targets at point 23S. They will be coming from the right alley.” Claire Magnus ordered.

“Jogudra Two, avoid the alley and rendezvous with Jogudra One.” I countered.

“Gamma Six, position at point 123N.” Claire Magnus ordered.

“Jogudra Four, fire everything you got at 123N.” I countered.

The army marked on Claire Magnus’ screen started to fade little by little. Her soldiers are dying left and right, while my mafia pawns are mowing their way towards her position.

“Damn it!” Claire Magnus slammed her screen, causing it to break. “What the hell am I fighting against!? Deva? Jogudra Mafia? Or something else!? Shit!”

Claire Magnus is about to break down. Deva is winning against her dragons, and the mafia is winning against her army. There is no hope for her… except for one thing.

She looked at her Dragon Sage badge on the floor. A glimmer of hope lighted in her eyes. She grabbed her Dragon Sage badge and activated it with her magic.

“Attention, all Dragon Sages. I will be posting an emergency quest as of this moment! I need backup!”

[End Simulation]

[Timeline Prediction Deactivated]

I smiled devilishly. There is no need to keep frying my brain by using that omniscient spell. I’ve followed the roadmap of this timeline, so I know I have nothing to fear. Even if she calls for backup to us Dragon Sages, nothing will change.

My Dragon Sage badge flashed the message that Claire Magnus gave. I couldn’t contain my laughter when I received the quest. I poured mana on the badge and called her back.

“Dragon Sage Ulysses Corasell, at your service. I accept the quest.”

“Finally!” Claire Magnus cried. “I thought nobody would answer me! Lord Corasell, please fetch me in these coordinates I’m sending to you!”

“With pleasure.” A wide grin marked my face.
