“Come on Zeus” Janet calls out.

“Hey wait for me” I call back in a chuckle.

I don't think anyone has ever made me this happy. Puppy love they call it. We ran around the park until falling down underneath a cherry blossom tree. Laying in the grass we both face each other.

“Oh I forgot, I made something for you” Janet smiles.

She reaches into her suit's pocket and pulls out a small origami bird.

“I've been practicing from that book you gave me on my birthday when I was younger”.

She always said she wanted to learn origami but every time she tried it always came out wrong and her quick temper would kick in.

I smile back at her. “Janet you know I love you, right?”

“You say it almost a million times” She rolls her eyes and chuckles.

“Then can we take these suits off just this once even for one second I just want to hold you”.

Ever since the government required us to wear these suits, it's all you ever see these white marshmallow man suits. But I don't blame anyone for wearing it, I mean who wants to be blasted into smithereens?

I remember the day the Blast was announced. It was my first day of college. Everything was normal until the news announced that a deadly blast that could take more than half the earth was headed our way. Panic spread like wildfire and to make everyone feel safe they gave us these “blast defiant suits”. Even though we looked ridiculous I was just happy we’re safe.

—-------

“Day 111 Passengers seem bored of the living conditions of this environment. I wonder if there is something we can change in this ship while we wait for the Blast. Recording over.”

“Captain, maybe we should head back down,” Jaqua said nervously.

“You understand if we go back down we will die, don't you understand that vice-captain” Sara said menacingly back.

“But look everyone is bored and we won't even know if the calculated spot you found will survive”.

“That chunk of earth is gone Jaqua I need you to understand that. Tokyo is our last location for survival. Do you want all these people to die because of your mistake because you're bored?”

“I just miss my family. What if the suits don't work?” Jaqua says as he puts his palm into his face.

“Jaqua, I want you to listen closely. They're dead. Those suites won't survive the blast, we are the last survivors.”

“What do you mean…”

“God Jaqua don't you understand this is hard for me too I have family down there too. But this isn’t about us, this is about humanity and what is right. We must survive and keep going.”

''You lied to me, you told me the suits were made out of the same fiber material as our base. They are all going to DIE” Jaqua says, falling down onto his knees.

Sara bends down and hugs him.” I know it's hard Jaqua, let it out.:”.

—--------

“I don't know, Zeus” Janet mutters.

“Come on it'll be quick, I just want one hug before this chunk of earth disappears.” I say convincingly.

“Fine but behind these bushes so none else can see.”

“You got yourself a deal”.

Janet takes my hand and leads me into the bushes.

“Y-you have to take it off first” she says nervously. She looks down at her hands cuffed together and blushes lightly. I turn my head away from her as I blush hard.

“Um.. Okay”.

I press the button on the neck of my suit that releases my suit back into its collar state. The suit revealed the same old red shirt I wore for college the day the blast had been announced along with some black jeans. I haven't showered since then. None has showered if I'm being honest. The consent paranoia of the blast that's always just around the corner haunts us all. It's better safe than sorry.

Janet then presses the button on her suit. She wore a light pink dress paired with a yellow sweater that matched her velvet long hair. Even if her hair was greasy and we both smelled, she was the most gorgeous girl I have ever seen. She caresses my cheek. We both say nothing as we quickly wrap each other in a warm embrace without realizing what was just behind us.

That's when-

“ZEUS LOOK OUT”.

I put my arms over Janet as we both bent down preparing for the blast of light that headed our way.
