“And that was all of today’s classes!  Remember this is going to be on the nationals so please at least glance through it at home.”

The teacher picked up his books and walked out of the classroom.

“Do anyone want to go with me to McDonald’s?” A handsome boy asked and a couple of girls happily answered him.

“I’m free!” And ”Me too!”

“Let’s go together!” The boy said, the girls set some angry gazes but couldn’t neglect him.

He went out of the classroom laughing with the girls drooling over him.

At the school desk behind the crowd of girls sat the mildly depressed boy named Max. He looked at the girls following the handsome boy and sighed. He was trying his best to study, but the girls had hanged around the boy all class. He made a big sigh and thought about how he probably would have to stay up all night to study again. He picked up his books, stuffed them into his backpack and walked out of the classroom. On his way down the corridor, he turned his backpack around and picked up a pair of headphones. He grabbed his phone from the jacket and plugged it in. He opened Spotify and turned on his favorite song “No Surprises By Radiohead”. His friend Ella told him that the person who wrote the song must have been high If you listen to it you would probably understand. Something about the song made him calm down.

When he arrived at the main entrance he noticed that it was stuffed to the limit. He restlessly waited a while until he got tired of it and decided to leave from the back door. On his way to the back door, he met Ella. She waved at him and walked over to him.

“Max, If you wait for me we can walk home together.”  Ella seemed to be in a hurry.

“When do you finish school?” Max asked

“Around half past three.” She answered with a happy face.

Max deliberately made it look like he was thinking and then answered.

“Let’s do something tomorrow instead.”

“Yes… but, please wait for me.”

“I have something to do today so I can’t and I also  need to be home to help mum and sis..”

“oh… ok, I’m sorry.”

“Well… no, I’m sorry, but if you have time let’s do something tomorrow.”

“Ok sure.”

After talking to Ella, he turned towards the back door. After he got out he made his way through the cold and snowy weather. The schoolyard was filled with people as well. Some older students were preparing to drive their cars home and others were walking to the bus. Max made his way through the schoolyard and further away towards the city. After walking for a while he picked up a dark blue beanie from his backpack and pulled it over his ears. He blew on his hand to warm them up and kept on walking.

Max was spacing out as he watched the snow slowly fall from the grey sky. It covered the ground like a white blanket. He quickened his pace.

A lot of People were running around in a hurry. A young lady was carrying a lot of bags from famous brands. It was almost Christmas.

He walked past the lady and turned left around a corner. After a while, he arrived at a small coffee shop. The café was small with tall windows on the facade. A stair leads up to a door that had a wooden sign saying “open”. In the basement of the shop, there was a book outlet. The window of the basement was leveled with the now snow-white asphalt. If you looked inside you could see big bookshelves filled with countless books. On the side of the building, there was an old concrete staircase that Max made his way down. The owner greeted him, Max waved at him and made his way deeper into the bookstore. The book store was plain. The bookshelf was cheaply made. But it had an old and familiar feel to it. Max loved this feeling and took comfort in it. He started to look through the shelves. The shelves were big and many so it took a while.

After a while, he stretched after a book at random in one of the bookshelf. The book looked like one of those fancier notebooks. On it said Martial Arts 101.

“I would like to buy this.”

Max handed the book to the cashier and he received it.

“Weird…. It doesn’t have a price tag… it should at least have some sort of mark that shows where it’s from.”

The cashier said while inspecting the book.

“Where did you find this Max?”

“In that shelf owner there, I guess.”

Max pointed at one of the shelves.

“Well if you want I can give it to you for free.”

“Really?”

“Yep, here you go.”

Max received the book from the cashier.

“Thank very much”

Max said and walked out of the store and made his way to the café.

The café was quite small with a hipster feel to it. It was close to his home and cheap, so he went there a lot. The tables were out of scrap wood and the couches were made from worn out leather. He quickly walked inside and ordered a coffee and a packet of biscuits. He anxiously sat down on one of the couches and started inspecting the cover of his newly acquired book. Just as noted before the cover of the book was rather common. On the backside something was written but before he had time to read it…

“Sorry to disturb here is the coffee and biscuits you ordered.” A waiter said.

“Thank you!”

Max took a sip of his coffee and started to open the packet of biscuits. Suddenly he got a text message on his phone and Maxes face change to a very anxious one.
