Normally, Sera couldn't use her power to those who were unconscious as their situation were considered simmilar to the dead. 

Could you begin a conversation with sleeping people?

Nah, you had to wake them up first or and waiting their consciousness back.

But, the story' was different after being buffed.

It was true that she couldn't read their memory. 

Instead, she could peek and comunicate throught their subconsciousness, a.k.a, their dreamland.
