The third graders flooded in but in a neat matter. Everyone was wearing their mask and was in a straight line. The teacher was also wearing her mask and as she watched the children flood in she picked up a ruler. All the children sat in their seats without a word. The teacher walked through the rows of desks, making sure all the students were sitting straight, weren't talking and that they had their masks on properly. Their masks covered all of their face and were a ugly yellow and had a black smiley face on it. Sometimes the masks had to be hand made, so some of the masks were made of paper plates and the black on it was dripping. No one liked a frowning children so of course they made them look happy. Not only did people not normally like frowning children they also disliked frowning adults or other people. Masks were always in order. Normally there was a standard that the people on what they were allowed to wear. They normally had paper-thin white clothes and some scrubs on their feet. If their hair was long it had to be put back or cut off. The teacher stopped at a desk and the child next to her was shaking. The ruler came smack down on the child's hand and the teacher whispered to the child,

"Don't be scared. Be happy." The mask was slightly up and the teacher smiled at the child then kept walking.

Every student managed to stay still until one kid near the end of the rows burst into crying, "I can't do this anymore! I'm not always happy! I'm not-" Suddenly the door burst open and two men in large military suits and helmets came and dragged the kid away.

"Poor Timmy, now class, do we remember what we were talking about yesterday?" Hands flew up into the air, "Daisy?"

"We were talking about why we should always be happy."

"Correct Daisy."

A gunshot came from the hallway. The students weren't allowed to react. They all ignored it and focused on the teacher. One of the men from earlier opened the door, "Ma'am? The student is taken care of."

"Thank you dear." The teacher smiled then went back to the board.

The playground was full of many students who weren't complaining but laughing and having fun. One of the students fell off the monkey bars and yelled out in pain. A gunshot was fired and the child fell to the ground dead. Nothing was shaken but everyone was still laughing and having fun.

Daniel woke up and went to the bathroom to splash his face with cold water. He wasn't completely sure what was allowed, was he allowed to be tired? Wouldn't being tired make him grumpy? He sighed and went to his room for his normal outfit and mask. He headed out and went to school. The routine was normal, just plain boring. Of course Daniel smiled the whole time. The worst part was, he had no friends so staying happy was harder than expected. As he walked home an alarm on his phone went off,

'Thunderstorm warning ⚠️ '

Daniel sighed but didn't start running or going faster. He would just have to deal with it. He wasn't allowed to be scared so he wasn't gonna act scared.

It was pouring rain out by the time Daniel could see his house. He was walking just about there when a flash came and Daniel blacked out.

(It's short but hopefully alright)
