The Dragon Gamer

Chapter 11

The Broken System -2

"And now, for the price of the repair," Henry said, his gaze fixed on Aurva. The playfulness is gone, replaced by a cold business-like demeanour. "I had initially thought of few core skills as a fair trade. However, given the extent of the anomaly and the effort required to stabilise the system," he paused, a dramatic tension building up in the room, "I will need a substantial portion of your core skills. You may retain few, but I will choose which ones you keep."

The room grew heavy with tension. Aurva, Ddraig, and Elena are taken aback by Henry's high demand. The sense of unease grew as they took in the full scope of what is being asked of Aurva.

Henry watched them, a hint of amusement in his eyes, as they tried to process the information. What has started as an uncertain situation has now become a clear challenge.

The atmosphere felt as if it has plunged into an icy silence following Henry's ominous demand. The air grew thick with tension, each passing second felt like an eternity as the trio digested the magnitude of what has just been laid before them.

Aurva's face whitened, the blood draining from his face as the reality of the price sunk in. His eyes, once filled with an indomitable spark, now flickered with a blend of disbelief and dread. He clenched his fists, the knuckles whitening under the strain. His mind raced to grasp the scope of what losing most of his core skills would mean. It is a gut punch, a brutal reminder of the precarious thread by which his life hung right now.

Next to him, Elena's face is a mask of horror. Her eyes widened, the colour drained from her cheeks as she struggled to come to terms with the enormity of the demand. Though as the newest addition to the party, she has the least stake, she has grown close to Aurva and her experience in playing games gave her a good understanding of the situation. It didn't make her feel any better. Moreover, understanding it made her feel like the ground had been yanked from under her feet and stretched in all directions. Her gaze shifted between Aurva and Henry, the enormity of the situation rendering her speechless.

Ddraig's reaction is a blend of rage and disbelief. His scales seemed to bristle with fury, the serene ambience of Paradise now felt like a cruel irony given the storm that brewed within him. His voice boomed across the space, "You can't be serious! This... this is extortion!"

Henry merely shrugged his face void of any sympathy or understanding. "It's the price for meddling with forces beyond your comprehension," he said, his voice cold and indifferent. "The stability of the system is paramount. This is non-negotiable."

Aurva finally found his voice, though it trembled slightly under the weight of emotion. "There... there has to be another way. This... this is akin to ripping away the essence of my existence and the real goal of the Gamer System," he stammered, the despair in his voice palpable.

Henry's gaze is unwavering, his expression unyielding as he reiterated, "The demand stands. Take it or leave it. But remember, I'm a busy man, I can't stay here forever and the clock is ticking. I can't freeze time like this forever and with every passing moment, the anomaly within you threatens to tear down everything. And what do you know of the real goal of the system?" Henry asked, his eyes narrowing. He reclined slightly, the cold exterior momentarily breaking into a reminiscing smile remembering a distant memory. His eyes seemed to travel back in time as he began to explain the foundational ethos behind the Gamer system.

"The Gamer system," he began, his voice carrying a tone of reverence, "is a masterpiece crafted to bridge the gap between the boundless potential of the supernatural and the innate resilience of the human spirit. It's a conduit that allows a mere mortal to taste the essence of power that transcends the earthly realm. However, with great power comes an even greater responsibility to maintain Balance, to ensure that the fabric of reality remains unaltered."

He paused, seemingly gathering his thoughts before continuing. "The Master made this system so that it can enrich individuals with extraordinary capabilities, who could hold their own amidst the supernatural forces that govern the world."

His words painted a picture of a grand vision, a vision that sought to blend the essence of human and supernatural, crafting a reality where one could rise above the ordained destiny.

"The Master's aim is to craft a reality where a select few could attain a state of existence that defied the natural order, to rise beyond the mundane and touch the divine to maintain Balance of order in the realm. However, he also knew the dangers of unbridled power, and thus the system is designed to have checks and balances with adaptability, to ensure that the power it bestowed didn't rip apart the very fabric of reality the gamer is in."

He shifted his gaze towards Aurva, a sombre understanding reflecting in his eyes. "Your growth, Aurva, is a testament to the system's success and your potential as a Gamer, but also a reminder of the delicate balance that holds this reality together. The anomaly you triggered is a call for recalibration, a reminder of the fine line that separates order from chaos. That's where I/we the techie's come into play."

He paused, allowing everything to sink in. "I think you didn't understand what I explained earlier. The Broken System, this anomaly, is not just a threat to you. But it's a threat to this entire reality. That includes all races including Humans and Dragons. And that's the BIGGEST RED flag I can't ignore." Henry elaborated in more detail.

The room felt colder, the gravity of his words settling like a frost. Aurva's mind raced, understanding the magnitude of what Henry is saying. It isn't just about him anymore; the stakes are far higher.

Ddraig's usual fiery presence dimmed, overtaken by a rare moment of introspection. The implications are too large to ignore, and even his ancient wisdom is rattled by the potential consequences that loom over them because of the System.

This pushed Aurva's mind to new heights to find a suitable solution that doesn't cripple his growth as the Gamer, as he thought, he observed how most of the worlds he was allowed when he was reincarnated were in a state of conflict as per Canon and given the adaptability of the system, he is sure he could have gotten best in any world.

Aurva shook himself out of that thought. He needs to come up with something that helps him in the situation. The System isn't responding to his requests, a side effect of the maintenance mode he assumed. He wanted to see if he can use his 3rd wish, but seeing its unlikeliness, he scrapped it.

As he returned to the current scenario, he understood the necessity of a recalibration to maintain the balance that Henry had emphasised. Yet, his core skills are the embodiment of his identity as a Gamer. They are the cornerstone upon which his abilities and progress are built. The thought of parting with the core skills is like erasing the essence of his existence within the system.

His eyes narrowed as a new line of reasoning took shape in his mind. He turned to Henry, his demeanour reflecting a calm resolve mingled with a hint of challenge.

"From your explanation, it's clear that the core skills are integral to the identity of a Gamer. They form the basic framework that enables a human to transcend the ordinary and venture into the realms of the supernatural," Aurva began, his voice steady. Henry raised an eyebrow but patiently listened.

"These core skills are not just abilities, they are the pillars that uphold the identity of a Gamer. How then, can the system demand a relinquishment of these essential skills? I understand mixing chakra with magic is not the brightest of ideas. But if one is taken out, couldn't the system handle the other?"

His question echoed through the silence that ensued. His argument is grounded in the fundamental principles that defined the Gamer system, as elaborated by Henry. It is a valid contradiction to the demand that Henry has laid before them. Seeing Henry thinking, Aurva pressed on.

"Chakra and Gram, are a bit too much as I can use various types of magics and got skill books and have Arondight. I agree with that. But mixing Boosted Gear and Divine Dividing is a… predictable event. So I don't think it's out of the System's calculations." Aurva argued, throwing a side glance at Elena as she didn't know Issei exactly did that in Canon because of his lust for Oppai.

Henry's face is a canvas of contemplation as he absorbed Aurva's argument. The room seemed to hold its breath, awaiting Henry's response. Aurva's challenge is not just a plea for retaining his core skills; it is a challenge to the essence of the rules governing the system.

The silence stretched, the tension between the theoretical ethos of the Gamer system and the practical solution to the anomaly at hand hanging heavily in the air.

Henry finally broke the silence, his expression reflecting a blend of acknowledgement and intrigue. "You present a compelling argument, Aurva," he said, his voice carrying a tone of respect. "The core skills are indeed the foundation of a Gamer's identity within this system type. Your insight into the integral nature of these skills highlights your understanding of the workings of the system."

He paused, seemingly considering the implications of Aurva's argument. The discussion has now ventured into a territory that questioned the fundamental principles governing the system implemented in this world. And as Henry checked, the System does have a possibility of integrating 2 or more Longinus, though it failed to see the occurrence of mixing 2 or more races.

It had possibilities for The Gamer becoming other Supernatural beings, but it didn't include the possibility of the Gamer becoming part Dragon, rookie mistake, Henry must agree. As Dragon-type sacred gears turn their partners into part Dragon, it is stacked up with the list of errors when Celestial Blessing was created. As the essence of 2 Heavenly Dragons combined in the process.

As seconds passed, Henry's face tightened as he processed Aurva's argument. It is apparent that this is not a negotiation he had anticipated. After a moment of contemplation, he finally spoke, his tone firm but fair.

"The demand for the core skills is to rectify the imbalance caused due to the anomaly that the system had overcompensated for the irregularities in your growth, leading to the current predicament. However," he paused, gauging Aurva's expression, "I understand your point regarding the importance of core skills for a Gamer."

He leaned back, his face softening slightly. "Very well, I will amend my demand. Instead of all core skills, I'll need only half but I'll take the rest of your skills. In full. No negotiations on this." He raised his hand, stopping Aurva's protest. "You may choose one from each pair of core skills. For instance, between 'Gamer's Mind' and 'Gamer's Body', you can retain one. The same goes for the other pairs. This should help in realigning the system while allowing you to retain essential capabilities." he relented.

He continued, "As for the unasked wish from your reincarnation, I'll substitute it with a few 'gifts' of my choice taking away Observe. So don't concern yourself with that." Henry said with an amiable mysterious smile.

Aurva felt a sliver of hope. This is a significant concession, one that could potentially lessen the harsh impact on his abilities. It is a tough choice, but a choice nonetheless. It allowed him to maintain some semblance of control over his powers, which is far better than the initial demand.

He looked at Elena and Ddraig, who nodded with a sense of relief. The negotiation had paid off, at least to some extent. It is a harsh reality to face, but in the complex world they navigated, compromises are inevitable.

Aurva turned back to Henry, "Alright, I'll need some time to consider which core skills to retain."

Henry nodded, "Take your time. This is not a decision to be rushed. This is more entertaining than destroying worlds." Henry said with an encouraging smile. "And remember, the goal is to ensure the stability and smooth functioning of the system while keeping yourself adequately equipped for the journey ahead."

With a final nod, Aurva jumped into the interface, leaving others in silence. Henry denied a mental connection between them as he wanted Aurva to take the decision alone. Though disappointed, Aurva calmed himself and closed his eyes, the System showing his options.

Core Skills -

Gamer's Mind.

Gamer's Body

ID: Create.

ID: Escape.

Wood Style (Mokuton)

Shapeshifting

Arondight

Gram (sealed)

Aurva's mind meticulously sifted through his core skills, each one a significant pillar that held the tapestry of his abilities together. His eyes flickered, a spark of resolve igniting within him as he evaluated the essence of what made him unique, what gave him an edge in the unyielding world they are in.

He considered his two foundational skills: Gamer's Mind and Gamer's Body. Each offered unique advantages that had been crucial to his success thus far.

Gamer's Mind:

Pros:

- Provides mental immunity, protecting against psychological attacks and maintaining mental stability.

- Allows for clear, logical thinking even in high-stress situations.

- Helps in learning and understanding new information quickly.

Cons:

- Can make the user emotionally detached, potentially affecting relationships.

- Doesn't offer physical protection or enhancements.

He experienced the full might of Gamer's mind, often feeling detached and having no care for life when he was on the grind. Though it felt odd, he didn't mind it that much. Even now, Aurva is sure it's the Gamer's Mind that's allowing him to think calmly instead of panic.

He turned to Ddraig for support only for the Dragon to close his eyes, denying any. 'They really want me to make a decision here, huh.' Aurva thought. Since he came here, Ddraig has been an invaluable help both through his power and wisdom on what to do.

And as someone who controlled and experienced Gamer's Mind, Aurva wanted to take a second opinion as he knew Gamer's Mind is not going to be his preferred option because:

Gamer's Body:

Pros:

- Grants a game-like body that can heal from rest or items, negating the need for conventional medical treatment.

- Ensures the user doesn't permanently die unless HP hits 0.

- Enhances physical capabilities beyond normal human limits, allowing for superhuman feats.

Cons:

- Reliance on this skill can lead to overconfidence in one's physical abilities.

- May lead to a disconnection from reality, as pain and injury are less of a concern.

'Gamer's Body. Now that's a hella option. The last pro particularly, enhancement without any limits. A body without limits. Isn't that the whole reason that Dragon (master) shed his Dragon body?'

If you ask Aurva, having no limits is far better than being an emotionless drone. He needs to create the emotions with Gamer's Mind often requesting to lower the threshold. But with Gamer's body, he doesn't need to ask any such as small Aurva is up to the mark and always aims to go beyond, PLUS ULTRA!

If he had health and mana potions, he could be almost untouchable in the world. Maybe he should ask Henry about them? He didn't choose his class after all. Noob. If there is anyone that can help it's the whimsy Techie.

Furthermore, Aurva reasoned that while mental attacks are a threat, his own strong will and the mental training he had undergone with Ddraig can compensate for the loss of Gamer's Mind. But the physical benefits of Gamer's Body could not be as easily replicated.

The ability to learn and adapt can be maintained through study and experience, not to mention his perk, Intelligent, but the regenerative and resilient qualities of Gamer's Body are unique to the skill itself.

The choice is clear to him. Gamer's Body saves the day with its physical advantages and the safety net it provided outweighed the benefits of Gamer's Mind. It is a calculated risk, but one that Aurva felt is necessary for the path he is destined to walk.

Deciding on losing his mental defence and opening himself up for psychological attacks, Aurva pondered over the next set of skills: ID Create and ID Escape. Both are crucial, but he has to choose one over the other. As expected.

ID Create:

Pros:

- Allows the creation of Instant Dungeons (IDs), enabling controlled environments for training, storage, or strategic advantage.

- Can be a source of resources and a safe haven if used wisely.

- Grants the ability to manipulate the landscape within the dungeon, effectively creating a home-ground advantage.

Cons:

- Potentially high mana or energy cost to maintain or create.

- Possible danger if the ID is breached by enemies or becomes unstable.

'Are you kidding me? Who the fuck said it costs mana? It's practically costless. And yes, the Pros outweigh the Cons here as it doesn't cost much and no enemies 'breached' my IDs so far. Maybe Ophis and Great Red can. I'm not sure because of the System. That thing is far more powerful than I thought.' he then turned to ID Escape.

ID Escape:

Pros:

- Provides a reliable escape mechanism, crucial for survival in dire situations.

- Can be used to avoid unnecessary conflicts or retreat to regroup and heal.

Cons:

- Limited to escape functionality; does not offer offensive or utility advantages.

- Reliance on the skill could lead to complacency in strategic planning.

Between the two, ID Create offers a broad spectrum of utilities. While Escape is undeniably important, the ability to create and control an environment has far-reaching implications as that allows Aurva to train in safety, store valuable items, set traps for enemies, and even create entire worlds that could serve various functions (grinding).

The downside of not having ID Escape is the loss of a guaranteed exit strategy, which can leave him vulnerable in a tight spot. However, with his other abilities and strategic mind, he believed he can compensate for that loss. Moreover, the versatility and potential of ID Create seemed to open more doors and align with his greater ambitions.

After a thorough analysis, Aurva decided to keep ID Create. The proactive nature of the skill aligned with his vision of shaping his destiny rather than reacting to it. The skill is a creator's tool, and Aurva saw himself as a creator, not just a survivor.

Aurva's analytical gaze then fell upon the next pair of skills: Wood Style (Mokuton) and Shapeshifting. But as he assessed his options, he noticed that Wood Style was already greyed out, indicating it wasn't within his control to choose. He knew it's one of the reasons for System errors.

Though it felt bad to lose Hashirama's all-powerful Wood style, he's sure Shapeshifting is advantageous. Speaking of the skill, he analysed the Pros and Cons of it.

Shapeshifting:

Pros:

- Enables the alteration of physical appearance to a molecular level, which can be used for infiltration, disguise, or evasion.

- Can be used creatively for various strategic advantages.

Cons:

- Potentially high energy cost for sustained or complex transformations (moot point).

- Risk of discovery if not used carefully (only noobs will be caught).

As he browsed through it, that's when he realised he can't use Cloning if Wood Style is taken out as he is using Wood Clones to maintain his disguise as Aurva and this will lead to his cover being blown. He turned to Henry, almost pleading to help him. That's when-

Gamer's Mind negated Panic Attack. The System jumped into action.

Aurva froze. 'Oh you sweeet thiing! How did I decide to lose you? I'm very sad, my love. Even now, moments before we part, you are helping my sorry ass.' A bittersweet smile crept on his face.

His thoughts faltered, second-guessing if he should take Gamer's Mind instead of Body but his strong will made itself known and squashed the thought with no mercy. 'We will get used to it.' his strong counterpart told him which pushed Aurva back into the game.

He decided to ask for Henry's favour once he shared his decision with him and picking Shapeshifting, he moved to the next pair. Arondight and Gram (sealed). And had to suppress his laughter.

'Is there an option here?' Aurva thought of amusing himself with the Pros and Cons of the 2 powerful swords. And this time he laughed.

Arondight:

Pros:

- A legendary sword that enhances the user's abilities.

- Allows the use of three distinct types of magic: Holy, Demonic, and Dragon Slayer, which covers a wide array of offensive and defensive capabilities.

- Known for its unbreakable nature and its ability to cut through almost anything.

'NO CONS!. Now isn't this a surprise?' Aurva cackled. Since reincarnating, he didn't feel comfortable with any sword other than Arondight and since Gram was sealed - as if it doesn't want me to use it. Fine. I WON'T, OK?' Aurva said childishly, giving Gram's pros and cons a stink eye.

Gram (sealed): (Fuck you too, Gram)

Pros:

Another legendary sword with untapped potential, often referred to as the Demonic Emperor Sword, is believed to possess devastating power. (eye roll)

- The seal implies that there's more to the sword than currently accessible, hinting at growth and discovery. (get better)

Cons:

- The sealed state means its full capabilities are unknown and potentially inaccessible for the time being. (pathetic)

- Relying on a weapon with unknown properties could be a gamble. (duh)

Aurva got tick marks at the rude comments beside the pros and cons which he assumed as the sword's thoughts on him. 'You dumb thing! You are not worthy of using. I'll use my lovely Arondight. Come here, buddy.' Aurva said hugging Arondight.

Though his mind went through a full analysis of which is good for him. With Arondight, Aurva already has familiarity and experience; its synergy with his abilities is proven especially against Vali. The sword not only augmented his physical prowess but also granted him access to versatile magics. This multifaceted utility made Arondight indispensable, particularly when facing foes of various natures and defences.

Gram's sealed state presented too much uncertainty. The potential is alluring, but the unknowns made it a less reliable choice. Given the present circumstances, where stability and reliability are crucial, Aurva settled on Arondight. The sword's current benefits outweighed the speculative future powers of Gram.

Choosing Arondight, Aurva ensured his offensive capabilities remained robust. It is a clear choice, aligning with his need for a reliable source of power that has already been battle-tested. With Arondight in hand, he felt confident in facing the myriad challenges that awaited him in the supernatural world of Kuoh High.

Going over everything once again, Aurva arrived at his conclusions and steeled himself for what's to follow. The stakes are high, but he has weighed each choice with a meticulousness that is characteristic of his strategic mind and decided they are the best combinations that fit his needs.

With his decisions firm, Aurva faced Henry, his expression calm and resolute. He understood the gravity of what he is about to relinquish and what he is choosing to retain. The selections are not just about retaining power but about holding on to the core of his identity as the Gamer.

While Henry is making some interesting tweaks to Aurva's system while adding the 'gifts' he said he would. He smiled in satisfaction after adding 1 of his most favourites that made gamers curse him when they noticed it.

He added 3 'gifts' not counting the extra addition he made for his amusement, leaving 2 slots empty for Aurva to choose and he is willing to allow 1 or 2 extra slots as compensation for the 3rd Wish Aurva didn't choose when he got reincarnated and as an apology for the System failure.

It's their mistake to take away one of the core abilities (Wood Style) Aurva got in the lottery system and he is not ignorant to oversee that mistake and so after thoroughly modifying (screwing) Aurva's system, he looked up in time to see Aurva preparing to speak.

"I've made my decision. I'll take Gamer's Body," he began, his voice steady, "It's the foundation of my survival and growth." The skill is an integral part of his resilience and adaptability—key attributes for his journey. Henry didn't care for the latter part but didn't mind.

"ID Create," Aurva continued, "is essential for my strategy and development. It's a space of potential, a sanctuary and a battleground, all in one. I request this space, the Paradise, to be left aside, allowing me to enter and exit freely to talk to Ddraig." Aurva requested and Henry nodded. It's not that big a deal.

"Shapeshifting," Aurva declared, selecting the ability that provided him with versatility and the element of surprise, an invaluable tool for both espionage and escape. Not that he had much choice.

"And finally, Arondight," he concluded, opting for the sword that granted him the power of three magics—holy, demonic, and dragonslayer. A weapon and a skill that had already proven its worth in his hands.

He met Henry's gaze with a firm resolve, aware that each skill forfeited is a sacrifice of power but also a step towards stabilising the anomaly in the System. It is a strategic retreat, a way to regroup and maintain the core of his strength.

Henry slowly nodded, absorbing Aurva's decisions. There is a hint of respect—or perhaps intrigue—in his eyes as he processed the choices laid before him. "Gamer's Body, ID Create, Shapeshifting, and Arondight," he repeated. "Bold choices. You're sacrificing immediate power for long-term versatility and resilience. Very well, these shall be the core skills from now on." He said and started the process to remove other core skills to stabilise the system.

As the finality of the decision sank in, Ddraig's thoughts churned like a tempest. He commended Aurva's decisions. 'Gamer's Body' is an excellent choice, he thought, knowing well that the ability to heal and be immune to diseases can mean the difference between life and death in the battles to come. Though the loss of 'Gamer's Mind' is significant, Ddraig understood the necessity; emotional control is less critical when one's very survival is at stake.

As for 'ID Create,' Ddraig knew its strategic value was immense and as Aurva asked to make the Paradise separate from the ability, all the better. ID Create offered a sanctuary, a place to train, or an advantage in combat—capabilities that could not be easily relinquished. And making IDs whenever Aurva is in danger feels appropriate. Hell, they can make a dungeon they are familiar with and hide while their enemies navigate through it like headless chickens.

'Shapeshifting' is a skill that Ddraig hadn't expected Aurva to prioritise, but he could see the potential it held for deception and adaptability and as he also knows Wood Style is out of question from Henry's words. He supposed there is not much of a choice.

Then there is 'Arondight.' Ddraig felt a twinge of loss at the skills being given up but knew that Arondight's power, especially with its triadic magic affinities, is too great to forsake. It is a sword that resonated with Aurva's fighting style and has become a part of his identity. Though Aurva didn't tap much into its magic except for its Balance Breaker.

He watched Aurva, feeling a mixture of pride and apprehension. The path forward will be harder, but Ddraig has faith in Aurva's ability to overcome the challenges with his chosen arsenal. Compared to Issei, they are still in a better position.

Elena, though less familiar with the intricacies of the system, trusted Aurva's judgement implicitly. She recognized the gravity of his choices and the sacrifices they entailed. In her heart, there is a flutter of concern for what they have lost, but it is overshadowed by her belief in Aurva's intelligence and adaptability.

She knew he is playing a long game as Henry put it, one that she could not fully comprehend, but she is ready to follow his lead and support him through the trials they would face together.

With Henry

As his fingers danced across the interface with intense focus, the atmosphere in Paradise grew thick with the electricity of raw data being syphoned. The system, pushed to its limits by the anomaly, flickered wildly, its essence caught in the throes of transformation.

Beneath them, the very ground of Paradise began to tremble, a testament to the magnitude of the errors clashing and converging within the system's core. It isn't just a mere fixing of data; it is a complete overhaul, a rebirth under the skilled hands of the enigmatic technician.

Suddenly, the system flared to life, its light piercing through the turmoil. The serene landscape of Paradise is now shaking violently, a visual echo of the immense power at work to iron out the creases of digital chaos.

In the midst of the tumult, a pop-up materialized in front of Aurva. It is an ominous window, pulsating with an eerie purple hue,

Notice. Gamer, do you acknowledge and accept the modifications Techie Henry made? The pop read.

Aurva raised his eyes to meet Henry's, searching for some semblance of reassurance. But all he found is an innocent expression plastered on the technician's serene face, a look that belied the gravity of the situation. The innocence in Henry's eyes is as perplexing as the chaos that has just occurred.

And there Aurva stood, at the precipice of decision, the System awaiting his approval, and the ground beneath him still echoing with the remnants of digital upheaval. As he reached out towards the screen, his future hung in question, the resolution of his action holding the weight of untold consequences.

And Cut.
