Arc 1: Mira in a Doomsday World [3]

"You're awake!"

Just as Xu opened his eyes, a soft and sweet voice reached his ears. Before he could react, a small round object was pushed into his mouth, followed by a strange coldness that forced him to swallow.

In an instant, Xu's expression turned ugly, and he opened his eyes to look at the person in front of him vigilantly.

"What's your name?" Mira asked.

"What did you feed me?" Xu ignored her question and gritted his teeth, wanting to move away from Mira, but found that his body had no strength.

"Hey, that's not very nice of you," Mira huffed, taking a bite of the chocolate in her hand, "I saved your life. Look, your injuries are all gone because of me."

Xu frowned and looked down. Just as she said, the deep wounds that originally decorated his chest were gone, leaving him stunned.

However, his little goodwill for this lifesaving grace instantly disappeared after Mira's next words.

"Anyway, I'm Mira. I saw you unconscious on the floor so I decided to help you out. And... about what I just fed you—well, it's poison," she shrugged, as if it didn't matter at all, "The antidote is on me. You have to take it every few days, otherwise, you would fall into a coma and never wake up."

Looking at Xu's cold expression, Mira smiled mischievously.

"Don't worry, if you make me happy, I'll consider giving you the antidote... Ah, and don't even think about getting any help from others," Mira chuckled, then before Xu could do anything, she pushed another pill into his mouth, which instantly melted into his tongue, "By the way, that's the temporary antidote. You have to take it at least once every three days. Don't even think of doing any sort of trick. I can make you unable to speak... I can also make you unable to see, unable to hear, unable to move..." she rubbed the tip of Xu's ear playfully with her fingers and whispered, "Of course, it's also easy for me to make you unable to breathe~"

Xu couldn't help but shudder when he felt Mira's touch and her warm breath brushing against his skin.

A touch of red crept into his ears. Xu looked away and pursed his lips.

"What do you want?" he asked through gritted teeth.

"Hm... Well, I just need a bodyguard. You're quite strong," Mira patted his head, "As long as you stay obedient, I won't harm you-I'll even give you rewards."

Xu listened to Mira's domineering words, feeling that what came out of her mouth was completely incompatible with her innocent and lovable face. If not for the fact that in the apocalypse, even kids would use terrible means to kill others, Xu wouldn't have believed that the angel-like figure he saw before he had passed out was actually the same cunning girl who was currently threatening him.

Now that he thought about it, he wasn't even sure whether the other party was human or not...

Xu squinted his eyes suspiciously, "Are you a human?"

Mira raised her brows, "Calm down, I'm not a zombie."

"Then... you really just want a bodyguard?"

"Yes," Mira nodded, smiling innocently, "I told you, as long as you're obedient, I'll reward you."

Mira stood up and looked down at Xu, who was unable to move on the bed, "You just have to take me to your base and follow all my orders. Don't worry, if I find someone more interesting, maybe I'll set you free earlier."

Xu was about to answer, then suddenly found that he could move again.

He immediately sat up and assumed a defensive posture. Mira was unbothered. She simply placed her arms across her chest and asked, "Can you cook?"

Xu frowned, not expecting such a question. He shook his head and continued to cast a suspicious stare at Mira.

Mira rolled her eyes and pouted, "It seems that I still have to rely on myself to eat."

After sighing exasperatedly, she turned around and beckoned for Xu to follow her.

"You're probably hungry too. Let's eat."

Xu rose from the bed and stared at Mira's back. Just as Mira was about to step out of the doorway, Xu suddenly made a move.

Mira evaded the hand that was about to hit her neck. The moment she turned around, Xu felt himself suddenly losing all of his strength. He fell to the ground with a thud, and he looked at Mira in disbelief.

He just realized how unfathomable Mira truly was.

Someone who could immobilize him at will definitely wasn't a simple character. Although most people gained special abilities due to the apocalypse, having the ability to render someone powerless with just a glance was simply unheard of. Xu himself was already considered a powerful figure in the country. He was one of the people whose physique completely surpassed the limits of mankind. His reflexes and 5 senses were thoroughly enhanced, making his fighting abilities soar. His speed and strength were also something that could match a level 5 zombie, the second-highest zombie evolution currently known.

The person in front of him could easily evade his sneak attack and even take away his strength without having to touch him. Such power simply surpassed that of a level 5 zombie. Xu felt that Mira could actually be even more powerful than level 6 zombies.

At that moment, even if Xu wanted to fight back, he could only lay on the ground helplessly. Not to mention moving a finger, he found that even breathing seemed to be much harder than usual.

This sort of oppression was something that he had never encountered before. Along with disbelief and unwillingness, Xu also felt a sense of awe for Mira. This was a world that respected the strong, so even if Xu's character was originally cold and proud, it was only natural for him to recognize and appreciate Mira's strength.

Mira looked down at him and gave him a sharp glance, before continuing to walk out with a 'humph'. Xu felt that his body recovered its strength once again, and he couldn't help but look in Mira's direction thoughtfully.

He wondered what sort of powerful ability Mira had. If it was something that was even stronger than the current level 6 zombies... a plan emerged in Xu's mind.

If he could get the goodwill of such a powerful person, perhaps their base would have new hope...

As soon as this thought was formed, Xu immediately rejected it. If Mira was willing to aid the bases, she should've done it a long time ago. With her power, every base around the world would be clamoring for her, but how come they never heard of such a person before?

Xu sighed in his heart. He could only hope that such a person with powerful abilities wouldn't be an enemy...

In fact, Mira didn't use any ability related to this world at all. She only suppressed Xu using her spiritual force, and because this world was a relatively weaker world where people have not yet discovered how to temper their souls, it was extremely easy for Mira to render Xu powerless.

With her soul's strength, she could easily kill Xu within a single breath. No matter how strong Xu's physical strength was, it was nothing compared to Mira's soul power that had been strengthened many times through traveling different worlds.

Of course, Mira wouldn't do such a thing, after all, she still needed Xu to torture Wei Lin emotionally. What's more, Xu also looked quite pleasing to the eyes, so it wouldn't do any harm to keep him by her side for a while.

Xu watched Mira humming cheerfully as she cooked. Although at first, he was taken aback by the things that appeared out of thin air, he also knew about Wei Lin's secret space, after all, so he wasn't very surprised to see it appearing on somebody else.

If not for Mira's earlier threats and powerful demonstration, Xu found that she was actually someone who could easily be mistaken as a cute and kind person.

Her lovely expressions almost made him forget that she fed him poison not too long ago. He focused on her agile movements, and a pleasant aroma gradually spread out of the room.

Xu didn't expect that Mira would be so good at cooking. He looked at the various dishes on the table, suddenly feeling speechless.

In front of him was a bowl of thick congee, topped with chicken strips, fried diced garlic, chopped scallions, chopped spring onions, and a whole egg divided in half. Along with this were plates of spring rolls, dim sum, chicken teriyaki, and sesame balls. There was even a pitcher of iced strawberry juice on the side.

This was simply the most luxurious meal that Xu had seen since the doomsday began.

Mira smiled happily, looking at the dishes with sparkling eyes.

"How about it? Don't they look delicious?" she grinned proudly.

Xu picked up a piece of spring roll and finished it within two bites. He looked up and saw Mira's expectant face, and suddenly couldn't help but feel soft.

His face was still expressionless, but his features and voice had already relaxed by quite a bit, "They're delicious. Thank you."

He didn't know why seeing Mira so happy also made him happy, but watching her eat and accept his compliments contentedly seemed to make him very satisfied.

Every once in a while, Mira would pick a dish for him and put it on his plate. At first, he was surprised and a bit resistant, but after seeing how enthusiastic she was, he could only eat everything with a helpless smile, complimenting her for every bite.

With this meal, Xu unconsciously let go of most of his prejudice against Mira. Although Mira treated him rudely before, other than blackmailing him with a poison pill, she didn't actually do him any harm. In fact, she even saved his life.

He somehow felt that Mira wasn't actually hateful.

Xu naturally didn't know that this was partly the effect of Mira's innate charm.

As a devil, Mira's ethereal beauty alone can hook most weak-willed people and make them fall in love at first sight-coupled with her incomparable charisma, even the most hard-hearted people would unconsciously have a certain extent of goodwill towards her. As long as they didn't have any initial hatred for her, they would inexplicably develop a sort of liking for Mira.

This was a huge factor that helped Mira survive in the many worlds she traveled through.

Mira had no reservations when it comes to using this advantage to maximize her benefits. No way, it was her inherent ability, how could she not squeeze out its value?
