Hailey Jasmine Potter. That was her name. It took some more time, with them listing even more names, but eventually they found it. Jasmine. It was a beautiful name, and it had the side effect of starting with the same letter as her old one did. Just like her real first name.

As Hailey all but skipped out of the room, buzzing with excitement over discovering her real and true name, the only thing that bothered her was there was a piece of information from her name that she couldn’t work out. Something about herself that she had no frame of reference for, so didn’t know what it meant.

Shrugging, Hailey decided to put it aside for now. She’d have plenty of time to discover what it was at a later date. Maybe the Hogwarts library would provide the answers?

Several hours passed with Hailey and Dora spending time together. She got to try on all sorts of different clothes of Dora’s, and had a blast doing it. Hailey found Dora to be funny and kind, and she made her face appear like several kinds of animals, and even made herself look like Hailey at one point. It was amazing.

Hailey found herself morbidly curious about something, and just had to ask Dora. “How come you’re both so accepting of me wanting to be a girl?”

Dora’s grin melted into a soft smile as she looked at Hailey. “Mostly because of me, I think. Like I’m pretty sure Mum and Dad would be accepting anyway, but yeah. If you’ve got a child that can be any gender she damn well pleases, wouldn’t you accept that maybe gender is more of a social construct? Especially with magic allowing for full body transformations through potions and certain rituals.”

Hailey’s eyes opened wide at Dora’s response. She hadn’t considered that. “That makes sense… I guess. So… there are potions that I could take?” She asked, a hopeful lilt to her voice.

Dora chuckled, patting Hailey’s shoulder affectionately. “Yes, but they’re expensive and with you still being a minor, you’d need your guardian to consent to it.”

The hope that had started blooming in Hailey’s chest withered and died instantly. “Oh.” There’s no way that Uncle Vernon or Aunt Petunia would ever sign any forms like that. “I guess I’ll just have to wait until I’m old enough to get it for myself,” she said despondently.

“Hey, hey, it’s okay. Mum’s a healer. She might be able to work something out for you,” Dora said softly, holding Hailey by both shoulders and squeezing them gently. “Now come on, you’d look cute in this little yellow dress that I rarely ever wear, I think you’ll like it.”

Cheeks warming, Hailey took the yellow dress from Dora and hid behind the wardrobe door to change. Her new friend wolf whistled as Hailey stepped out from behind the door wearing the yellow dress with her white sneakers, her face blushing something fierce. “Whoa! When I’m right, I’m right. You look absolutely adorable, Hailey.”

Some of her messy black hair fell onto her face as she looked down in embarrassment, but she couldn’t help smiling regardless. “You… Do you really mean it?” she asked, self-consciously, her tummy doing flip flops.

Dora looked her in the eye with a serious expression on her face. “I wouldn’t lie about this, I promise.”

Before Hailey could respond, there was a commotion outside and they heard a man yell out, “Honey! Dora! I’m home.”

“Oh! Dad’s home! Come on, let’s go and say hi!” Dora grabbed Hailey’s hand and tugged her out of the room.

“Hi, Dad! Had a good day at work? Anyway, this is Hailey Potter. She’s going to be living with us from now on.”

A man with blonde hair in muggle clothing stood in the hallway with a stunned expression on his face. “Umm… okay. This isn’t a prank is it Nym- Dora? And why do I feel the urge to just call you Dora all the time now?” His face turned stern as he stared at his daughter. “What did you do?”

Dora’s eyes went wide and her jaw dropped in surprise as she turned to look at Hailey, who just shrugged, looking just as bewildered. She had no idea either. Dora’s mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water several times before she managed to squeak out, “It wasn’t me, I swear!”

Mr. Tonks’ stern look didn’t fade at all, in fact, it just got sterner. “Uh huh,” he replied, clearly unconvinced. “It wasn’t anything dangerous was it?”

Andi strolled into the hallway from the kitchen, looking a little messy but smelling like freshly baked biscuits. “Welcome home, Ted, honey. It’s okay, just let me explain the day we’ve had, before getting angry at our daughter, alright?” She grabbed his hand and dragged him out of the hallway and into another room. Before she shut the door, she looked at Dora and Hailey, “There are some biscuits that I’ve just taken out of the oven. You can have some, but be careful, they’re hot. Don’t eat too many and spoil your appetite.”

Dora looked at Hailey. “No idea what happened just there. Might be that there is more to this whole names thing then I had originally thought. Well… nothing we can do about it now. We’ve got some face stuffing to do,” and with that, she pulled Hailey along with her to the kitchen.

“I told you to not eat too many, now you won’t want dinner,” Andi chastised Dora. Her and Mr. Tonks had been in the room for about twenty minutes, having just returned to see Dora leaning back in her chair, groaning, rubbing her exaggerated extended belly, while Hailey giggled at her

Dora sat up, her tummy deflating in moments, “Oh, Mum, ye of little faith in your innocent daughter. I only had two biscuits.”

Andi snorted at her daughter's antics. “Innocent, you? Just how gullible do you think I am?”

With a grin, Dora shrugged. “I had to try at least.”

Dora’s father stepped up to Hailey, his arm outstretched for her to shake. “Hello, Hailey. It’s a pleasure to meet you, I’m Ted Tonks, just call me Ted, okay? I’m sorry about earlier. Too many years of having to deal with the fallout of Dora’s pranks, I’m afraid.”

Hailey giggled as she shook Ted’s hand. “It’s nice to meet you too.” She frowned. “But Ted isn’t your real name, what is it?”

Ted looked surprised at her. “It’s… Edward. Edward Frank Tonks. But you can still call me Ted.”

She gave him a brilliant smile, relaxing slightly at knowing this man was a good man. “Thanks, Ted. I will! And that’s fine about earlier, Dora’s been great to me since I’ve arrived.”

Ted looked relieved. “I’m glad to hear that.” He turned to look at Andi after he let go of Hailey’s hand. “Oh, by the way, Arthur invited us to dinner tonight, I said yes as I had assumed you wouldn’t mind.”

Andi frowned at her husband. “Are you sure that we should go? I mean, we do have Hailey with us after all.”

Looking thoughtful, Ted rubbed his chin for a moment. “I don’t see any issues, the Weasleys already have a large family. What’s one more mouth to feed?”

“Hailey Potter, Ted.”

Ted deflated, looking at Hailey, his eyes flicking towards her scar briefly. “I’m… sure it’ll be fine?.. The Weasleys can be trusted to not blab to every witch or wizard they see.”

Still looking conflicted, Andi bit her bottom worriedly. “I don’t know…”

“I think that it would be good for her, gives her a bit more exposure to the wizarding world before she’s thrust into it without any prior knowledge or experience. Plus the Weasleys have several children around her age. Everything will be just peachy, you’ll see.” Ted had grabbed Andi, and was holding her to him, looking down smiling reassuringly at his wife.

Andi still didn’t look all that convinced, but she slowly, reluctantly, nodded her head, then looked at Hailey. “Would you like to come and visit some friends of ours? As Ted pointed out, they have some kids about your age and I’m sure they’d love to meet you.”

Hailey nibbled her bottom lip, thinking, before she smiled hesitantly. “I… guess it’ll be okay? Maybe I can make friends with them, for when I go to Hogwarts.”

She still wasn’t hundred percent sure about her getting to actually go to Hogwarts yet, considering she hadn’t received her letter, and won’t for another few weeks. Even if everyone seemed to just assume that she’d be going. Hailey didn’t even know how she’d be able to afford it and she couldn’t expect the Tonkses to pay for her.

Dora clapped her hands excitedly. “I can’t wait for you to meet Fred and George. I just know you’ll be able to tell them apart, and it’s going to infuriate them,” she giggled.

Hailey smiled at Dora, happy that her new friend was happy. From the little she got off of their names, they sounded like twins. She had encountered twins before with a similar feel to their names, but nothing as close as those two. It was slightly eerie, almost like they were one person with two bodies.

⚡️

“Okay, Hailey. Don’t forget to hold my hand tight. We’re apparating there. Ted and Dora will follow us on their own.”

Hailey nodded, trying not to feel a little apprehensive about meeting new people, new people who would know who she is. She took Andi’s proffered hand, holding it tight like she had been told. Andi nodded to her, and suddenly the warmth and the pleasant pressure was surrounding her once more as everything vanished in her sight.

Moments later, they were standing outside, the loud crack of their apparation echoing across the field of long grass that they were standing in. In the middle of the field was the strangest building that Hailey had ever seen.

It looked like a bunch of random houses stacked on top of each other, and not even done very well either. The whole thing looked like it was about to tilt too far and topple any second. Hailey assumed that magic was the only thing that was keeping it from doing that.

A man with bright red hair and well worn wizarding robes strode up to them with a bright smile on his face. “Afternoon, Andi! Always a pleasure to see you. And who is this fine young lady that you have with you?”

Her tummy felt like it was full of butterflies after being called a lady and her cheeks flushed red.

Andi wrapped an arm around Hailey’s shoulders comfortingly. “Good afternoon, Arthur. Thank you for the invitation. Now, don’t freak out but this… is Hailey Potter. You prefer she/her, right? Sweetheart?”

Hailey nodded at Andi shyly, feeling warmth in her chest at her returning smile.

Arthur’s eyes bulged, instantly doing the almost familiar hop to her scar. “This is Har-Hailey Potter? I always assumed that he- sorry, she was away, in hiding somewhere. Getting special training or something. What’s brought her here, with you?”

Andi sighed, holding Hailey tight, but before she could answer, Hailey spoke up. “I discovered my real name today, Arthur.”

Two almost simultaneous cracks split the air behind them, making Hailey jump as Dora and Ted appeared.

“Wotcher, Mr. Weasley.”

“Hey, Arthur.”

Arthur’s perplexed frown morphed into a smile as the other Tonkses greeted him. “Ahh, Dora! Ted! So pleased that you could come. Well, everyone’s here now, right? No other shocking surprises for us, I hope?” He shook Ted’s hand and patted Dora on the shoulder, before he gestured towards the house. “Let’s go, we don’t want to keep Molly waiting do we,” He suddenly spoke quieter, almost under his breath so his voice wouldn’t carry far, “I can’t wait to see the family’s reaction to meeting Hailey,” he chuckled.

As they walked, Andi filled Arthur in with how exactly Hailey had come to be there with them. After some encouraging noises and shocked looks, Arthur opened the door to the house that he affectionately called “The Burrow” and gestured for them to go inside as he held the door open. “Kids! Molly! We have guests.”

There was shouting then loud thumps as it sounded like a herd of wild animals were stampeding down the stairs that Hailey could see leading upwards.

A short but kind-looking lady walked into the living room, wearing a white apron over what Hailey recognised as witches robes. Her hair was a bright red, similar to Arthur’s.

Three rowdy boys burst out of the stairs, almost falling flat on their faces as they shoved and mocked each other good-naturedly. Hailey couldn’t help but shrink back a little, stepping closer to Andi’s side at this display. Dudley had often behaved similarly with his friends before or after they had chased her. She felt Andi’s grip tighten comfortably on her.

“You three oughta be ashamed of the way you behave in front of guests, honestly.” A fourth boy appeared, holding his nose up in the air as he slowly walked down the stairs. Judging by the fact that all four had bright red hair and looked similar enough, Hailey assumed that they were brothers, or all related somehow or other at least.

One of the boys, who Hailey could see had a twin brother standing next to him, rolled his eyes at the one who had just spoken. “Ah, give it a rest, Percy, we’re just having a bit of fun. No harm, no foul, is what I reckon. Don’cha think, miss?” Hailey blinked as the boy suddenly addressed her.

“Umm… I guess so? If no one is hurt, or offended, then it’s alright.”

“Well, I’m offended,” Percy stated primly.

“You’re also a git, so there’s that,” the second twin responded.

Hailey couldn’t help but giggle at their antics as they started arguing between themselves. She could hear Dora laughing as well.

The older witch suddenly spoke up loudly. “Enough! As you have stated several times now, we have guests. Now, why don’t we all introduce ourselves to the young lady that has come over to visit. I’m rather surprised that she’s still here with how you lot are behaving.” She glared at the boys in question, hands on her hips.

A chorus of “Yes Mum” could be heard as the four boys stood up straighter. Hailey noticed that the youngest one glanced at her several times, frowning, as his eyes flickered up to her forehead and back.

“Sorry about that, dear. I’m Molly, and these young brutes are my sons. Ronald, my youngest, Fred and George are the twins, and finally, Percy. What did you say your name was again?”

“I’m…”

Ronald gasped, “You’re Harry Potter! Blimey, what’re you wearing a dress for?” he interrupted her, frowning as he stared.

Ronald!” Molly snapped at her son, anger and shame warring on her face.

Ronald turned to his mother, bewildered. “What? But it is, though! You can see the scar,” he said, pointing at Hailey.

Ronald Bilius Weasley! I thought we had raised you better than that! You apologise right now, young man,” Molly all but screeched at her youngest son, face going red as she glared at him.

“But…?”

Molly growled at him. Face going pale, Ronald turned towards Hailey, and ducked his head in some kind of bow-nod movement. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you or nothin’,” he said contritely.

Hailey’s face was flushed with embarrassment, her heart beating wildly and her hands feeling slippery from sweat as she nodded towards the boy, tentatively accepting his apology.

Percy stepped forward, bowing formally and holding out his hand towards Hailey, palm upwards. She blushed as Percy lifted Hailey’s hand, pressing it to his lips after she placed hers in his palm. “It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss Potter, may I ask you for your name?”

Hailey’s cheeks were flaming crimson as she stared up at this strange boy. Her insides twisting in knots at the unexpected attention.

“Uh, I… err,” she swallowed nervously, “umm, my name is Hailey Potter, it was a pleasure to meet you, too.” She wasn’t sure what to do after that, she vaguely remembered hearing somewhere that girls were supposed to curtsy, so she awkwardly bent her knees, nearly falling over and bumping her head on Percy in the process.

Suddenly Percy was shoved out of the way by Fred, who took her hand in an exaggerated, pompous manner, kissing her hand like Percy had. “How good it is to have finally met you, gentle lady. The pleasure is entirely all mine, I shall say.”

“Nice to meet you, Kind Prankster Fred.”

Hailey started to giggle at Fred’s antics and his perplexed expression at her response, when George shoved him out of the way as well. “Well I do say that you’re a rare beauty, that outshines the beauty of the brightest star, whose intelligence is clearly only matched by her smile, whose wit and cunning…”

Molly sighed, pinching the bridge between her nose. “Can it, George. Give the girl some space now, why don’t you?”

George let go of Hailey’s hand, stepping back a step. “I’m not George, I’m Fred.”

Hailey giggled at the amusing prankster. “Nice to meet you too, George, the mean but well-meaning prankster.”

The boy frowned at her. “Didn’t you hear? I’m Fred, he’s George,” he said, pointing at Fred.

Shaking her head, Hailey ignored his comment. “Can I ask for your full name, George?” She asked, emphasising his name so that he knew she wasn’t buying it.

He stood there, staring at her in surprise. “How did you…? Eh, never mind. You can tell me all of your tricks later! I’m George Gideon Weasley, prankster extraordinaire, at your service,” he said, with a flourish of his hand and a slight bow.

Hailey gave him a brilliant smile, her eyes sparkling merely as she took in his name. “Thank you. And you?” She said, looking at Fred next, who pretended to take a step back, afraid of her gaze.

Fred stood up taller, smirking. “Fred Fabian Weasley,” he said simply, bowing his head slightly, with a fake solemn look on his face.

She smiled at Fred, just as brilliantly as she had at George, who flushed a little under her gaze. Before she could ask, Percy chimed in when she looked at him.

“Percival Ignatius Weasley, if you ever need a hand with anything, don’t hesitate to ask, Miss Hailey Potter.”

Hailey had the urge to curtsy again from his pompous attitude, instead she gave the same smile as she had given his brothers. He coughed lightly, pulling at his collar as if he was hot as he blushed slightly.

Ronald rushed forward, putting himself in front so she couldn’t see his older brothers. “I’m Ronald Bilius Weasley, but you can call me Ron, if you’d like,” he said breathlessly, holding out his hand for her to shake. She shook it, trying not to make a face at his sweaty hand.

A girl timidly appeared at the bottom of the stairs, her eyes wide as she stared at Hailey in wonder, her face as red as her hair. “I…I’m, uh, G-G-Ginevra M-Molly Weasley, ple-please, call me G-Ginny,” Ginny said shyly, failing to hold her gaze and looked down at her feet nervously, hugging herself.

Before she knew it, Hailey was standing right in front of the shy girl. Ginny squeaked in surprise as Hailey hugged her, warmth touching her heart as they embraced. Hailey was instantly worried that she’d hurt the girl, but no sensations of draining her magic came, and moments later, Ginny hesitantly wrapped her arms around Hailey in return.

Unbidden, Hailey spoke. “Your hugs feel nice. I’m Hailey Jasmine Potter, I don’t have a nickname. Maybe you can find one for me?”

Ginny just buried her blush in Hailey’s dark hair.
