During the trip to Italy, DIO slept like a log.
He was tired from training before boarding the plane. The Spin was something he always practiced, and now he could use it well to produce energy. He took a first-class seat, after deciding not to use a private vehicle because they were so new, expensive, and rare to buy.
Still, what was important now was that DIO was just one hour away from descending. During his flight, he sat next to a busty woman with red hair which piqued his interest. She also seemed interested in him, but nothing else happened between them during the ride except a few greetings.
DIO was a cautious man, especially when using air travel for the first time, and debated whether he should check everyone on the plane in case there was an enemy. It was always better to be safe, rather than sorry.
In the end, he practiced his Optic Stamps quickly on everyone on the plane to "help master it better". It would not create any problems for DIO to be safe, so he just decided to ask the girl if she had any information on Venice or herself.
Her name was Lucy Wild, she was from Prague, and was visiting Italy as a tourist. Nothing seemed special enough to make DIO care, so he gave a basic greeting with a fake last name.

Of course, it was a late evening flight like always, so DIO was always in his best playing field just in case during a landing or crash.
After departing from the airport, DIO searched for the household of Joseph Joestar first.
One thing of note is that other families were similar to the Joestars for their special reasons. For example, Zepelli, Rothschild, Whiteburn, Boomboom, Valentine, and Higashikata.
Still out of the many families, only Zepelli, Rothschild, and Whiteburn were of any real importance to DIO. Rothschild was known for its extensive treasure and riches. Zepelli was known for being well versed in fighting techniques using the Ripple for the next time Kars struck, they were led by Caesar Anthonio Zeppeli. It was not confirmed, but some think they practice both the Spin and the Ripple.
The final was the Whiteburn family, known for their information networks, riches, and intelligence. They were the only rivals to the Joestars currently, as they operated in England recently due to Joestars splitting a portion of their family in Italy.
Still, the Valentines were a mystery to everyone but the family itself. Higashikata was a wealthy fruit company owner, which made it strange they were so highly regarded among the other families. (Higashikata Fruit Company or Higashikata Fruit Parlor)
What truly mattered was that the Joestar's had their most important family members inside their mansion in Italy, presumed with the Red Stone of Aja by DIO.

Venezia (Venice) was a place full of culture which fit in with DIO. He explored the place while searching for the household of Elizabeth Joestar.
It did not take long, because DIO already knew the general area and view of the house from his "information gathering" before he left. After finding the house, DIO had no choice but to knock on the door and announce himself to his descendants. Even if he was adopted, he is still a Joestar member.
This was when DIO heard something truly surprising in the courtyard.
"The fact that you're here in Venice...! Here on this island, must mean...!"
"... That you've come to find the Red Stone of Aja! That you know I have it!"
The old man who spoke wears an outfit comparable to Indiana Jones. This basic outfit: a fedora; a light, short-sleeved, buttonless shirt; khaki pants; dress shoes; and white gloves with dark wristbands concealing his prosthetic hand were the clothes of the old man, Joseph Joestar!
Joseph was staring straight at the opposing Pillar Man with hate in his eyes. On the floor was a corpse of a woman with a young alluring appearance and dozens of guards. Joseph was known for being a calm planner that could predict moves, but even he was having trouble focusing with the smell of blood clogging his nostrils.
"Esidisi! You bastard!" Joseph screamed at the top of his lungs with tears running down his face.
Of course, Esidisi would figure it out if DIO could too. It was also very obvious because the island did not seem habitable nearby, so why would there be news of Joestars living in it?
This was because the two main protectors of the Red Stone of Aja, one of the three things needed for DIO's ascension to godhood, rested on this island with his descendants.
Esidisi could deduce these things easily due to living for countless years, but the only thing he could not learn was why the Hamon (Ripple) Tribe would hand over the precious stone to much weaker guardians that obviously could barely defend themselves.
From his time, royal families that had methods to protect the stone would be the ones to own it, like the Romans. Still, it did not matter what the Tribe wanted now because they were dead, and the final remains which were spared many years ago would finally end.
Now it was Esidisi's turn to question JoJo about what he was after.
"JoJo! That gaze of yours...! It has become piercing after many decades! But men with a look like that in their eyes... die quickly when they run into me."
"I spared that old woman for you, but I can finish her just as easily! If you show me the Red Stone of Aja... I will walk away!"
These words spoken by Esidisi shook Joseph to his core. He never reached such a dilemma in his life. Would he give up on his mission and save his mother for the possibility of Esidisi speaking the truth? Or would he fight for the chance to win?
Since this was Joseph "JoJo" Joestar, his path was already set since the first time he faced Wamuu with Caesar many years ago. This was the answer he believed in with all his might was right. Since the start of his journey across Italy while starting a family, forming a resistance against the Pillar Men, and to this moment where the hopes of the Hamon Tribe were on his shoulders.
He knew the path ahead was clear. After a deep breath in his lungs, it only took a few more moments for Joseph's answer.
"I'll use my own legs and..."
