Ellena was currently relaxing in the living room.

Suddenly, she heard something fall outside.

Out of curiosity, she went outside to look after the sound. After stepping out of the front door, she noticed Davron lying on the ground. He seemed passed out.

“DAAAAV?!”[Ellena]

Ellena cried out of shock, after seeing her son lying on the floor. She picked him up and carried him into the house.

After she laid him onto her bed, Ellena noticed a subtle glow of visible mana around the Davron. This shocked her.

It was a sign of awakening. ‘How? He is only 10 annos old!’, she asked herself.

Awakenings were mostly when someone turns 15 annos old. Sometimes, people took a bit longer to awaken, it was totally normal. Of course, there were also cases, when geniuses awakened a few months earlier, but not with 10 annos! This was unheard of!

“Hmm”[Davron]

Davron was about to wake up.

He opened his eyes. The first thing he saw, was his concerned mother staring at him.

“Dav, are you okay?! Sweety, what happened?”[Ellena]

Ellena immediately started bombarding her son with questions.

“Hmm mom? I don’t know.. suddenly I felt pain and passed out”[Davron]

This was not a lie. He really didn’t know what had happened. The only thing he knew, was that he underwent some sort of transformation.

“Hmmm. Dear, do you feel something different in your body?”[Ellena]

“.. something different?”[Davron]

Davron paid attention to his body. And there, he felt something like a net in his body.

“Yes.. there is something in me!”[Davron]

“So it’s true. Dav, you had your awakening..”[Ellena]

‘Awakening? Isn’t it only with 15? Hmmm.. I bet it has something to do with me leveling up’. Davron was pondering.

“Okay my dear, mommy will tell you know about mage stuff.”[Ellena]

Ellena decided not to think about it too much. Davron’s awakening proved her again, that her son was a special boy. She was proud of him. Thinking too much about it wouldn’t change the situation.

“So darling, you already know that people, who have talent in magic, undergo an awakening. After the awakening, the individual can user their mana paths. Mana paths and mana core are the most important things for a mage. Any questions?”[Ellena]

“Mana core? What is that?”[Davron]

“Ohh right, I forgot to tell you. The mana core is somewhat the storage of your mana. You will get it after you train your mana paths.”[Ellena]

“Ahh, okay”[Davron]

“Let’s continue. Spells are divided into grades, which starts from grade 1. Our royal king has even a grade 8 spell! Incredible, isn’t it? But according to rumors I heard, there seem to be spells with even higher grades!”[Ellena]

“And how do you get spells?”[Davron]

“Fufuf Good questions. You need expensive spell books. However, be careful, some spell books destroy themselves after you read them! “[Ellena]

“What?!”[Davron]

“Mhm. Most of those spells are of higher grade. You wouldn’t want to have rare high grade spells spread, do you?”[Ellena]

“I see. People want to keep control over the distribution”[Davron]

After hearing her son understanding it, Ellena patted his head.

“Hmm Where did we stop… ah, I remember. Listen now Davron, this is very important.

After you get your mana core, you need to connect to the Magic Network. Without the magic network, you won’t be able to cast spells.

The Magic Network was created by the marvelous Magic Goddess Aurelia, to help all the mages in the world! You can’t never ever anger the Magic Goddess! Okay?”[Ellena]

“Mhmm. Do you really need the Magic Network?”[Davron]

“Good questions, sweety. The Magic Network is like a tool, that almost every mage uses. Without it, you would need to calculate and control the spell by yourself, which is extremely hard.

I heard though about individual mages, who can’t stand using the Magic Network and rather cast their spells by themselves. Those people are called wizards and witches.”[Ellena]

“Hmm.. wizards..”[Davron]

Davron was fascinated by those wizards. They go to all the trouble just to stay in control of their magic.

“Fufu. Get it out of your head, darling. I know you well, you’re probably fascinated by those wizards. However, there are only disadvantages for wizards. You should forget about them”[Ellena]

“Hahahah”[Davron]

Davron felt caught. ‘Mom knows me too well..’

“Mom, are there grades for mages too?”[Davron]

“Hmm Good question! No, there are no real grades for mages. Mages are ranked by their mana capacity and their highest spell, but that’s very subjective. Therefore, you should never underestimate a mage, even if they look young!”[Ellena]

“Ahh Okay”[Davron]

Ellena kept teaching Davron about magic, mages and all that important stuff. They talked till evening.

“Wait here, honey”[Ellena]

Ellena went to a random spot in her bedroom. Then she kneeled down on the floor. Her right hand searched the wooden floor for something.

“Ha, there”[Ellena]

Ellena’s graceful fingers pressed an inconspicuous spot on the floor, which made a loose wooden plank lift up a few cm. Ellena grabbed the wooden plank and put it to the side. On the spot, where the previous plank was, was a small compartment.

Ellena took something out of the hidden space. It was wrapped in cloth.

She went back to her son’s side.

“Here, my son, take this. I know it’s not much, but I still saved it for you, my children. Please be gently with it, your sisters will need it too”[Ellene]

Davron took the thing out of Ellena hands and removed the cloth. There, in his hands, were 3 books. They were Beginner’s Mage’s GuideMeditation by Lorai Gentano and Flame Spell, Grade 1.

Seeing the books in his hands made Davron speechless. He knew that those books cost a ton. Being a mage is extremely costly. Be it the materials or the spell books, everything related to magic costed a fortune. A part of the reason was that the mages organizations try to keep their monopoly over their resources.

“Whaaat? Thank you!”[Davron]

Davron threw himself into Ellena’s arms. He was truly happy.

“First, Familiarize yourself with the book and then you can start increasing your mana”[Ellena]

This chapter was unusually harder to write, than the previous ones. Took too much time and effort..

I rewrote chapters 1 to 8 into third person, changed some details and improved a few spots. Don't worry the changes are not too great, but of course I recommend you reading the edited versions, if you have time.
