Her chest tightened when she heard her beloved wail as he held the body of the experiment made from the body of a girl who he had told her so much about.
She closed her eyes, trying to hold back her tears as Gurē kept repeating 'I'm sorry Emiko' over and over through the comm. The camera feed was grainy after the effects of the aftershock of her beloved's attack on the little girl turned into a monster.
She gasped as the footage showed Gurē running away just in time before 'Emiko' ignited and in a great flash of light, exploded, cutting the feed of the fourth camera she was watching from.
Her eyes widened when she turned to the feed of the third camera, only to notice the number 2 hero make his way towards Gurē while fire started to cover his entire body.
"NOOO!!" She shrieked in horror when the vigilante, who she has been helping for years, parried Endeavor's attack, burning his flesh in the process.
She closed her eyes the moment she heard him scream. Tears flowed down her cheeks.
Immediately she turned on her side of the comms and spoke:
"S-Smiley… A… Ar-Are you okay?" She stuttered, still calling him though her vigilante persona just in case someone was hearing him.
There was silence at first, the only sound she could hear was the sound of wind, meaning he was still flying through the night sky. It took him a minute to respond but when he did her heart clenched at his words.
It… Hurts. Ahh… It hurts so much…
He was crying.
The boy she fell in love with was crying.
Her hero was crying.
Ahh… I couldn't mngh… I couldn't let that attack miss ahh… If it did, I don't know w-what it would do to the civilians…
She heard him land on the ground followed by the sound of something ripping. He was probably taking his clothes off.
"H-How bad is it?"
It's… Red hngh… I think they're… Second degree burns…
Without saying another word she immediately went to the web and did some quick research on what her beloved should do.
Going to the hospital was out of the question. Someone appearing with second degree burns in the left arm the same night Smiley got his left arm burnt by Endeavor? That would be extremely suspicious. And she didn't trust the doctors to keep that information to themselves.
"I-I found it… You need to be s-sure they're second degree burns before you rinse them," she whispered, reading from a few medical articles. "If they are, you can rinse them in running water until you clean the burn. I'll contact the shel- base to send you ointment and bandages."
As she heard the running water of the waterfalls approach she prayed for her beloved's safe recovery.
I'm gonna mnn… Cut connection soon… Approaching the waterfall now…
She opened her mouth to exclaim that she loved him. But instead she grew quiet until she heard the comms go off, leaving her to her own devices.
Manami Aiba began to cry.
"Burns? That's not good." "What are we gonna do?" "We just finished a session of training and now he comes back burnt? What happened?" "It was probably Endeavor." "Or a villain with a fire quirk." "Maybe he was protecting someone?" "Yeah, there must be a reason why he didn't just escape right away."
I inhaled a great amount of air making my chest grow.
Slowly I ripped what was left of my hero suit making sure it didn't touch my tender flesh.
I exhaled, letting out a tiny whimper in the end.
Fresh tears ran down my face as I made my way towards the waterfall in the clearing. I needed to rinse the burnt tissue. I took another step and then jumped into the air before aiming my descent until my feet touched a big rock close to the waterfall.
Without much thinking I stepped forward and put my arm into the falling water right away.
Pain.
I bit my lip as I felt my entire arm get hit by the force of the waterfall flaring my pain receptors making me see white for a second.
But regardless I endured it.
I breathed in through gritted teeth.
This was just a minor setback…
I breathed out.
If I had to fight another fire user who had the same or hotter flames than Endeavor, was I going to cry in pain, roll over and die?
I breathed in.
Hell no.
I breathed out.
As the pain started to recede through my breathing pattern and my thoughts drifting from my burns to the encounter I just had I let out a huge sigh.
Oh Emiko… What have they done to you?
I closed my eyes as I felt the waterfall wash my tears away.
"That… That piece of shit is not getting away from me a second time," I muttered as I held my left arm, at least the part that wasn't burnt by Endeavor. "Your days are fucking numbered."
"He's mumbling to himself." "Maybe he had a tough fight with Endeavor." "That or there was more than one hero." "Or perhaps a powerful villain." "If he's not telling us it means we shouldn't dwell that much into it or we are going to end up just like him."
I ignored my clones while I concentrated in easing my mind from the pain.
I breathed in.
It worked. But only for a few seconds - the pain returned, making me wince.
I breathed out.
Slowly I opened my eyes.
"Breathing and clearing my mind works. I just… I just need to do this until the pain goes away and I can forget about it for a while," I mumbled to myself while I gave my arm one last look. "A clone can take over for me from now on. It's not like I'm gonna be needed… Now that I'm considered a villain."
I grit my teeth as the memory of the heroes that tried to take me down resurfaced.
Regardless I endured it and resumed my breathing.
"Ahh…" he rasped as he watched the feed of Smiley dislocate Endeavor's shoulder while holding onto his chin in contempt. The gash in his arm was mostly back to normal after getting it sliced by Smiley's wind blade. "Well… Isn't this an interesting development."
Kyudai has gone back to his lab through a portal so he could keep his work in the next Nomu that will most likely go against All Might next.
After today's events it was better to adapt. They had more battle data on Smiley, meaning that their next tool needed more time in the oven until it was ready.
But he knew better. He knew of Kyudai's fear of death and the doctor was really close to that after his failed attempt to get his hands on Smiley's 'quirk'. That's why the doctor excused himself.
It could be said that he underestimated the vigilante… Now villain, he supposed.
Smiley's speed far surpassed his previous records and even after adding Overclock to the Nomu - even if it was just a curiosity - didn't amount to anything in the end. He immediately found a flaw in Garaki's designs and took care of the job without any casualty. Even his 'fight' with the Nomu could be considered him testing each quirk before deciding it was time to end the fight.
Even though he should feel disappointment after Smiley's escape, he only felt a sense of joy. Not only was the vigilante injured after that altercation, but so was the number 2 hero, who used Smiley's sense of justice to land a hit on him while putting civilians at risk.
Either way this action would put more mistrust in people's hearts.
Heroes trying to capture a vigilante through the city at night?
Heroes using gas bombs in a residential area?
A hero putting people in danger while trying to attack a vigilante?
It was almost comical how he didn't need to lift a finger for the mistrust and hatred to grow. He just needed to wait and see. Wait for the right moment. Bide his time.

► Smiley the villain? [Thread Closed]
Posted by HolsterD, yesterday at 06:42am:
Did you guys see the news? The police declared Smiley a villain. It seems he killed a civilian and a task force tried to apprehend him but failed due to a villain attacking the area. Here's the links to the police statement and news site that goes into much detail.

You're fast, I just saw the news and came here if someone was talking about it. Turns out that there were two other threads about Smiley. Quite frankly I don't know how to feel. Dude kills someone, but it could be a villain for all we know.

I was about to say that we have another thread about his status as a villain, but then the thread got closed all of the sudden after someone posted a few clips of Smiley while he ran away from the heroes.
I managed to see it before the post got deleted…

It was probably a villain, but the cops want to put him behind bars regardless ( - _ - )

we don't know that, besides even if it was, what right does smiley have to kill a villain anyway?

Ok since nobody is talking about it, i'll just go and say it: Why are the news just showing the street in which Smiley fought? Like we know there's footage of Smiley escaping the heroes, fighting a villain and dislocating Endeavor's arm, but i've seen every channel and everyone is showing the same footage of the street or the building on fire.

They probably don't want to show people Endeavor's state. I saw the clip in the first then second thread but it keeps getting deleted. You might get better luck by searching for it on the web.

Anyway, I'm sad to hear Smiley is now a villain. In fact I don't even know how to process it.

Do you guys really believe what the media tells you? We know Smiley can get angry and all but he has never killed anyone. And I saw the clips of Endeavor. Did you know the reason they're not showing it is because there were civilians behind Smiley? If Endeavor missed his attack, he could've struck the people with his fire. Smiley parried his attack and got burned in the process.
Dude got his arm burned because he was saving people's lives…

I was in the area and put myself in danger just to see what was going on like an idiot, but it seems Smiley knew the villain, because he kept saying "I'm sorry" over and over after the fight was over.
I didn't have my phone with me, but I saw a lot of people with phones recording. Are they taking down those videos too?

Kazuho looked at the screen of her monitor in trance as she wore the hoodie that was given to her by Gurē when he saved her from drowning on the river all those years ago.
It was a normal morning for her until she looked at her phone and saw the news. Then with dread she checked the lost calls from Manami. Immediately she went towards her computer, after grabbing Gurē's hoodie, and started to click on everything related to Smiley she could find in social media.
Fear began to creep up on her spine as she saw more and more non deleted clips of Gurē escaping the heroes, fighting a villain and getting burnt by Endeavor.
Her lips quivered.
Her hand found her phone once more and dialed Manami's number.
"Manami, Kazuho! How are you guys doing?" asked a clone of Gurē who was slowly stirring the pot with a wooden spoon. He brought some of the stew he was preparing to his lips and gave it a small taste. "You came to have lunch with me? Sorry to say but the original is in the woods training I think. He hasn't come back since yesterday."
The red haired woman and pink haired girl locked eyes for a second before returning their gazes towards the white haired clone with the face of the person they both loved.
"W-We know," said Manami as she fidgeted in place, trying and failing to appear as if nothing happened in the last twenty four hours. "Did… Did mister Oguro come to the shelter?"
"Who? Oh! Old man knuckles, yeah he's inside. Man, I keep forgetting his name" he replied while he added finely chopped coriander to the pot before closing it. "Why the sudden interest? Are you guys planning a patrol? Should I give the original a call?"
"No!" Exclaimed Kazuho only to immediately realize she just shouted to an unaware clone who might or might not get suspicious and start asking questions. "I-I mean, don't bother yourself with that. Gurē is too busy training for something this small. M-Manami can just… I don't know, call a clone or something."
Gurē's clone arched his brow for a few seconds before letting out a sigh.
"If it's something I shouldn't hear then just give me the order and I'll go and do some grocery shopping," he said as he scratched the back of his neck while closing his left eye. An expression that made Manami's heart contract. "I'm not stupid. Something is going on and everyone is trying their hardest to keep me unaware of what's happening. But I trust you guys, so just give me the go ahead and I'll leave until you tell me to."
They stood in silence until it was interrupted by a gruff voice coming from the entrance of the shelter.
"Smart. Go do the shopping, kid, fifteen or twenty minutes would do the trick," Iwao Oguro or Knuckleduster said as he stood there with his hands in his pockets while dressed in civilian clothes. "If you still see me when you come back then add another five minutes. This won't take long."
The clone nodded before turning off the stove, took some shopping bags from one of the shelves and made his way towards the store. Leaving the two girls alone with the 'retired' hero.
"Okay, he's gone. Let's go to the roof," Iwao grunted as he made a gesture to the girls so they could follow him.
Once they were on the roof they noticed that Jin Bubaigawara and Himiko Toga were present and seated on a table big enough for all of them.
"Hi, Manami… Kazuho…" Himiko said while sporting a complicated expression.
Jin gave them a wave as he looked down to the table, his mask hid his expression, but it was clear he was downcast over the news.
Both of them, if not all of the shelter, knew of what happened to Gurē last night.
"H-Hi," said the pink haired girl as she awkwardly stood there next to Manami, watching as the old vigilante approached a mini cooler to fetch a beer can. The pop idol stared at the man taking a long swig from his can before she opened her mouth. "Should they be here? I-I mean-"
"They know. The entire shelter is aware of what happened," Iwao said, moving his hand towards his pocket where he found his cigarettes and put one in his mouth. He next went for his lighter to light his cigarette. Once done he gave a huge drag, before he breathed out letting out a trail of smoke. "The cloner asked to be here. He's the only reason why the kid got to where he is and he is our last line of defense. The girl on the other hand just came here when I wasn't looking and refuses to go back inside."
"Himiko…" Kazuho said, but the only response she got was a pained smile.
Manami sighed.
"How bad is it?" The gruff man asked as he took another swig from his beer. "You were in contact with the kid before Endeavor fried him, how bad is it?"
Manami's lips quivered before she closed her eyes and opened them once more, trying to conjure strength.
"Second degree burns. Last time I heard from him he told me he was going to clean his arm. I informed Jin to send a clone with ointment and medical gauze."
"Good thinking. The kid was lucky it was only second degree burns," before anyone could say a word he continued. "He could've been in trouble if those burns were third degree. The hospital would've been his only option at that point."
"H-He's going to be fine, right?" asked Jin, only to receive a nod from both Manami and Iwao who then took another drag of his cigarette.
Himiko gave a sigh of relief and the masked man cried of joy, lightening the mood.
"How's everything on your side, mister Oguro?" Manami asked while she calmly walked towards the table and took a seat next to Himiko, Kazuho doing the same a few seconds later, sitting to the red haired woman's left. "Are the cops-"
"Still sniffing around? They stopped their search a while ago.. Don't worry your pretty little head about it," he said with a grunt, before a dark expression marred his face. "What you should be worried about is the fact that they put almost all their resources into a full operation to capture the kid, we should count ourselves lucky that he got away with everything that happened."
Manami kept quiet. She made a background check on Iwao Oguro and she knew he had a contact inside the police, which explained why he was able to give the officers who were investigating him the slip. But she wasn't sure if his contact informed him of Gurē capture plan or not.
'No. He probably didn't know. The operation could have been a secret to his contact and that would have been the reason why he didn't inform us,' she thought, coming to the conclusion that the man drinking beer and occasionally taking a drag from a cigarette was still their ally.
"What villain was he fighting against?" asked Himiko, getting a grunt of displeasure from Oguro who simply closed his eyes for a few seconds before opening them and looking at them all.
"I wouldn't call that a villain. For starters, that thing wasn't human," the old vigilante told them, looking to the side, probably thinking about how much he should actually share with them. His eyes landed on Manami, who looked downcast. He gave her a small nod and continued: "It was more of a dead man walking. A revenant.. An amalgamation of organs and quirks designed specifically to take someone like Smiley down."
They stood there in silence, only for it to be broken by Manami.
"What do you mean?" she asked. She had plenty of conversations with Gurē about the instant villains and the things that attacked the Sky Egg. She had some strokes of the full picture but she needed more information.
"Hrng… That thing… Was a walking corpse. A villain reanimated it and stuffed it with quirks that would synergize with the body. That's why it had such a wide range of abilities," the gruff man said as he paused for another sip from his beer. "This is not the first time we've seen something like this. The Sky Egg suicide bombers could have been the prototype all along and we're seeing the next stage of its… evolution."
Dread began to creep on Manami's thoughts the more she thought about it.
"They were targeting Gurē?" Himiko questioned while holding onto a nervous expression.
"Correct. But he's not probably the only one," he grunted, alluding at more heroes being the target of those amalgamations. "For all we know he could've been unlucky to get targeted yesterday."
'Unlucky…' Was the red haired thought as she looked down to her hands that held onto her skirt.
"S-So what do we do now?" Kazuho asked as she looked from the old man to everyone on the table.
Iwao took another drag from his cigarette.
"I'll keep training. Gurē told me I was close to the next stage in our training… I'd like to see him, but if he's hurt, it's better to leave him alone," Himiko shrugged while trying to maintain a cheery expression.
"I'll… I'll help in the shelter, there's a lot of things that need to be fixed. If you need another clone just give me a call!" Jin said, raising his right hand into a fist and shook it.
"I… I guess there's nothing for me to do but keep working I guess. But if anyone needs help just… Just give me a call, okay?" Kazuho came next trying to appear brave, even though she might feel useless now.
Manami and Iwao stood in silence for a few moments.
"I'll keep an eye open," was the response of Knuckleduster as he finished the rest of his beer before letting out a small burp. He then directed his attention to the red haired young woman. "What about you?"
"I'm going to keep everyone informed," Manami Aiba said, with determination.
She was going to be extracting information from places that would put her in jail if she ever got caught. But she didn't care. This was bigger than anyone anticipated and her beloved needed to know what he was going against.
With that out of the way their conversation died after a few pleasantries and a few exchange of words.
Manami had much to do.
Tomoko, the woman better known as 'Ragdoll', watched the news from the comfort of her home while she held onto a pained expression.
Her quirk.
She didn't see it happen, but she didn't have to.
One moment, he had no major weaknesses, then all of a sudden her quirk detected his left arm as Smiley's weakness.
It all happened when she was doing her routine before she could sleep, only for her quirk to activate and reveal the new influx of information about the teen with whitish hair and yellow eyes.
Immediately she jumped to the news' channels to confirm her fears. Only for it to skip the reason why Smiley now had a weakness in his left arm. They just reported a villain attack in which Smiley and the heroes at the scene were involved.
For some reason they were hiding the truth of the matter.
But why?
Tomoko tried not to showcase her displeasure as they went into commercials, only to return fifteen minutes later and change topics, leaving the news on Smiley behind as if it was an afterthought.
She reclined on her chair and closed her eyes and concentrated.
He was…
Outside the city.
Kilometers away.
Surrounded by signatures that resembled him but somehow they didn't have the same weakness.
Her breath hitched when she felt her quirk activate once more and start to record Smiley gain more weaknesses as seconds went by.
What was he doing?
"Hey! Where's the original? I brought more bandages and ointment," I called as I landed on a tree branch and looked at the open area filled with more copies of Gurē.
Then I blinked as my attention went from the group of clones towards the pond in which a wet haired teen could be seen with water up to his neck. He had his eyes closed.
The original.
"He's still in the water." "Trying to ignore the pain." "He's been there the entire morning." "I wonder if he's going to stay there the entire week." "Shhh… He can hear you"
The original stood in the water in silence for a few moments, before opening his mouth.
"That's enough," he said as he slowly began to get out of the pond. I admired the tender and red flesh of his left arm. He breathed in and then out. "I need to… Train…"
The clones looked at each other before directing their attention back to the original.
"Train? Are you crazy?" "Yeah, you need to heal that arm before you can train again." "It's too early!" "You're only going to get yourself hurt."
I approached Gurē who grunted once he approached the towel and began to carefully clean himself making sure to not apply too much force on his left arm. He made a face once he saw me.
"Something wrong?" I asked as I offered him the things that Manami tasked me to deliver. Once he was no longer sopping wet, he took the bandages and ointment and began to apply the latter to his left arm with a wince. "You looked at me weird when I came close."
"You try keeping a cheery mood when you have a burnt arm," he muttered as he then began to wrap his arm with the medical gauze.
"Hey… Um… It could be worse?" I tried to cheer him up, only to get a deadpan expression in return.
He sighed.
"You're right… It could be worse. A lot worse," he responded with a hiss the moment he applied force to the bandages, until finally, he let out a long and almost satisfied breath when his arm was completely covered.
He made a fist and winced in pain.
"I can't stand around, doing nothing," Gurē finally addressed the other clones as he opened and closed his hand into a fist multiple times, his pained expression lessened with each movement he did. "It's only a matter of time before they send-… It doesn't matter. I just need to get stronger. And all of you will help me."
"Sheesh… What happened yesterday that has you like this?" "Whatever it is, we shouldn't dwell on it." "What? Why? I really want to know now…" "There must be a reason why he doesn't want to tell us."
"All of you are my sparring partners. That's it," the original informed us. I gulped. "The only ones that will know are the clones who will take after me as Smiley and maybe the Hood."
With a nod I started to back up until I was next to a tree and watched as the clones began to circle Gurē whose expression darkened as he planted his feet on the ground with enough force to crack it and put his hands in the air to redirect any incoming attacks.
"So forget about whatever happened to my left arm and come at me with everything you got," he growled, tensing his entire body.
I breathed in and saw in slow motion how every single clone went towards the white haired teen at the same time.
Shota Aizawa made a face as he lay on the floor in his sleeping bag at the corner of the classroom.
It went exactly as he had thought it would.
They failed.
A call from Ignenium in the middle of the night was all it took to know that the operation was a huge failure.
What's more, while they were trying to capture the vigilante, a villain attacked the area. Smiley being the only reason they could stop it without any casualties.
Ingenium wasn't able to share any details besides the fact that they were unsuccessful and that a villain attacked… But a quick investigation through the web brought him up to speed with the missing information.
The thing was that that missing information created more questions than answers.
Why was a villain attacking the same place at the same time they were trying to capture Smiley?
Why was Smiley crying over the villain as if he knew who he or she was?
What tried to touch Smiley's head?
Why did the villain explode? Was it a suicide? Or something else was at play?
Why on earth did Endeavor try to attack Smiley while there were civilians around?
Did Endeavor know Smiley was going to protect the people and that's why he didn't hesitate?
He harrumphed as more questions and theories took over his mind. His expression shifted to a worried one.
'Hm… This is getting out of hand,' he thought while his gaze went towards the clock on the wall and discerned how much time he had left before he had to go to the teacher's lounge. 'If what Ragdoll says is to be believed, then a team of heroes failed to capture a teen who later fought a villain and got injured by Endeavor.'
If his old self was still searching for a way to capture Smiley he would've tasked Hound Dog to fetch his scent after the altercation and…
'No. I need to stop thinking like that,' were Eraserhead's thoughts as he stood from his position and gave the kids in the classroom the go ahead to get to the next class. 'This is no longer my problem…'
As more and more students fled the classroom, Shota Aizawa's expression darkened. Then he got out of his sleeping bag and fetched his phone from his right pocket.
'Goddammit,' he cursed while searching for a specific number. He didn't have All Might's number, but he could at least try to contact the detective who he had worked with in the past and was responsible for the capture plan and its details. 'They're probably going to try again with the same strategy but Smiley is not going to fall for the same tricks a second time. We need All Might.'
He was just a teen. Who was now labeled a villain.
'Smiley is soft, but one never knows if he might turn the page if pushed like they have done with the capture plan. They need to do a follow up immediately to get that kid away from the streets,' Aizawa reasoned as he finally found the number of the detective. 'I fear what that kid is capable of should he turn to true villany.'
"Oh my…" A white humanoid rodent of small stature and dressed in cordial clothing said as he stared at the now deleted video of a hand that landed on the head of Smiley, the vigilante. The video continued with Smiley immediately changing positions and cutting the fingers of the hand clean with his bare hand.
Nezu observed with intent as those fingers disappeared in a cloud of black miasma that surged from the ground as well.
"This is not good…"
A/N: (28 Jan, 2026) There were a lot of comments on the last chapter so I started to write the next chapter right away. Sadly the words won't come as easily as the last time, so who knows when I'm going to finish this chapter to begin with. Wish me luck!
(6 Feb, 2026) See? I told ya it was going to take a lot of time compared to the three days it took me to write the last chapter, I don't know how I even did that. I was probably on drugs lmao (7 Mar, 2026: man….)
Well, this is the last author's notes of this chapter. I'm trying to write something to pump the creative juices.
Anyway here's my plug:
