Entry from the journal of Dr. Frank Rubio, retrieved from the remains of the International Space Station.

As the Sun returned to darkness,

As the Moon returned to light,

As the planet turned; returned its people to the swelling night,

Prometheus stole new fires,

Icarus reached down his wing,

And in defiance of the dark our cities started shimmering.

Golden states and emerald cities,

Cities both of love and sin,

Rising suns the sun had set on,

All they started shimmering.

As the shimmers burned to ashes

And the dark encroached once more,

No longer did the cities shine.

Silence hung like nought before.

But when I close my eyelids

And my thoughts and worries start to simmer,

Ingrained deep into my eyes:

The cities never lost their shimmer.
