A/N: Aha! I actually returned! Surprising? Maybe, maybe not, not as long as other chapters, but a chapter nonetheless

AFoS - Chapter 6
Missing Reason

January 5, 48 - Patch, Rose's Household

Arcene looks at the spare notebook in front of her

This has been on her mind ever since the first days of 'revival' as what she is starting to call her recovery of her past life memories, it's a bit too long to call it that so Arcene settled to call it with just a single name and her pick was 'revival', it's a bit fitting really

But going back to the topic, Arcene knows very well that she does not have the best in the memory department and if worse comes to worst, she would forget major details about the plot of RWBY

But that's not everything, some minor details could also very well be the death of her if she were to forget them, really, why does she have to deal with this shit?

Arcene really only has 3 options, one: say 'fuck it' and try to remember it until her death which… You could probably see what is the flaw with that because it was already stated just a few sentences ago

Number two: Write all the details in a digital medium… But not only is that a bit unreliable because if she lost or destroyed whatever device she put those details in then they're lost forever… Yes she could probably put them into whatever equivalent they have for cloud storage which probably doesn't exist and if it does, she wouldn't trust it enough to put the details of the plot of RWBY there

And number three: Write those details in a physical medium… Like I don't know, a notebook? But… The problem with that is that other people had a higher chance to see and read it than the digital option and could also be lost the same ways as the digital option too

You might say that the second option is the best out of all of them but not only does she not have a personal scroll (or any electronic device really), she also doesn't trust them enough, heck, they look more fragile than the cellphones in her past life

So… Her only real option was option three… That's another thing, for some unknown reason, the number 3 is tied to Arcene no matter what it is, during her past life, 90% of all the groupings that occurred, she was put on Group 3

There was also a myriad of smaller things, like whenever she writes, her minimum amount of words was 3,000 words and she didn't even noticed that particular one until a weeks days ago when she was reminiscing about her left behind stories

And then there was also her past life's former classroom, for some odd reason, the class she was in was assigned in the same classroom for three years now, one time in Grade 6, another in Grade 7, and the latest one in Grade 10

And those are just the highlights, there's probably more of these things that she has already forgotten

But going back at the original topic, option three is really Arcene's only real option, while it may have a higher risk of being caught, she already has the materials needed for it unlike the 2nd option

'And besides, I could just write the details as a story as a disguise and write what I couldn't in a single page to make it seem like it's just the place I wrote down my ideas. Maybe one day I could transfer it into a scroll but this is really my only option currently.' Arcene thought to herself as she writes down the details of the plot of RWBY in the notebook

'I just hope nobody sees this.' Arcene thought to herself before she froze on the spot, immediately stopping writing as she realizes something

'I just jinxed myself… Didn't I…?' Arcene thought to herself in horror, she just hopes she's wrong just like most of the time

But the only thing she could do for now is to continue on, unfortunately, she didn't really manages to write a lot that day

--------------------

January 6, 48 - Northern Central Valean Airport

'... Haaaaahhhh…' Arcene mentally sighs in exasperation and tiredness 'Really bad timing… I should've started writing the details months ago… But lazy ol' me is just that… Lazy…'

As they always say, regret always comes last, which is just common sense because you wouldn't regret something when you haven't even done it yet but that's not the point

Arcene procrastinated too much to the point there was a large time period she even forgot to do this in the first place and now that she's doing it, something just had to came up, she doesn't know why that kept happening to her so many times even in her past life but it annoys her to no end

"Where are we going anyways?" Arcene tried her best to not let the annoyance slip through the tone of her voice and try not to be as sassy as what she would've liked to do, which was… Successful? At least Arianell didn't give any indication that she caught on but that didn't really gave her any confidence

"Atlas." Arianell answered but said nothing more than that

'Ah… So pray tell why we're only doing this now? We had years before this to visit our supposed aunt, who we didn't even knew existed until earlier this day…' Is what Arcene wanted to say in response but she didn't really want any trouble, and just like what the saying in her past life goes "If you have nothing good to say, then say nothing at all."

The whole family right now is in an airport in the northern part of Vale, awaiting an airship to go to Atlas apparently

While Arcene is definitely curious at how this supposed aunt is related to her (and by extension, Summer) among a myriad of other things, she decided to keep her mouth shut, while she is definitely a naturally curious person, she doesn't really have the confidence, the self-esteem or just about anything related to asking a question

And not to mention, her mind is going haywire about the possibilities that could happen and most of them are negative ones, and she still thinks that it's plausible to happen to her even though with Arianell's kind character, the chances of them actually happening are almost zero

I guess old habits die hard

And then suddenly, Summer trips on something on her right

"Ah." Summer said as the same moment as she felt her foot hitting something

But luckily, Arcene caught Summer by her blouse using her one hand before she uses her other to snatch herself to avoid ripping the blouse apart

'Clumsy as ever… Why can't you just look at where you're walking?' Arcene thought to herself knowing full well how hypocritical that was because she herself has a tendency to not look at where she's walking, while it's somewhat rare to for that to happen nowadays, she at least doesn't trip while she's walking

"A-Ah… S-Sorry…" Summer muttered nervously, she's not really used with this much people and it's making her very nervous

'I swear, there's really no reason why she should be like this, she isn't really socially shy and if anything, she's quite the extrovert and she definitely doesn't have an abusive history, if anything, I should be the one being extremely nervous since I have both of those… Well, I am a bit nervous at seeing so many people but not to Summer's extent… Fricking Anime Logic.' Arcene thought to herself

Though, Arcene does worry a bit for Summer as to why she's like that, you don't develop social anxiety just because you're shy, some are because of their history and past experiences, so something must've happened to Summer to make her like this

But… Arcene merely shook her head mentally, she's probably just overthinking this just like every other time, she's in a world where everyone could have powers and some defy logic and bend reality to the extreme, so why should she try to make sense of a simple oddity in someone's personality?

Arcene noticed Arianell walking towards them, she noticed earlier that Arianell was a bit busy on her scroll before she left, Summer tried to follow her but tripped, or so Arcene thinks

'Really… As much as they are better parents than the ones in my past life's ones, they really need to work on communicating things with their children. Also, who leaves their children without a single word? I mean yeah, Dad is here but he's sleeping… I'm not sure a sleeping person could look after two children…' Arcene thought to herself but eventually decided to stop it, she doesn't get anything

Arianell walks up to the still sleeping Garnet before saying "Hey Net, our ride is here."

Arianell then looks towards both Summer and Arcene "Come on, come on."

Garnet suddenly stands up from his seat and took his bag

Arcene blinks at this before thinking 'He wasn't even touched, he was only called and it wasn't even a particularly loud one… Either he is quite the light sleeper or he wasn't even sleeping at all…'

And so, they then started walking with Arianell leading the way

'To say I have a weird family using my past life's standards would be an understatement…' Arcene thought to herself as she follows Arianell

--------------------

Arcene looks at the sight before her, Atlas and Mantle, really, it's quite an unbelievable sight to see, I mean, it's not everyday you see a large floating rock with a futuristic city on top of said floating rock in real life

And she vaguely remembers seeing it fall to Mantle, Arcene slightly grimaced at this

While she hasn't really watched RWBY passed the first episode of Volume 3, she knows quite a lot of things like the fall of Atlas, Ambro-something that she forgot bridge, the Apathies, things in Haven, basically a lot of things

But, that's the thing, while some of it she could say is canon since she read it straight from the wiki and saw the animated scene itself, some of it… Not so much, while everything mentioned she could say in confidence is canon, there are a few informations that she merely assumed is canon because she noticed the consistency between fanfics she read, so yes, that's quite an unreliable source of information

But anyways, she's getting off track here, the airship they're on lands with the doors opening to reveal the docks

And just as they started walking out of the airship, Arcene felt something poked her neck, she immediately looked at the direction of where the poke came from and then stepped back

She definitely would've known the poke coming if she had "turned on" her circumsense (as what she would be calling her ability to feel things at a certain radius because calling it that is too long) but everytime she uses it for a prolonged period of time, a headache starts settling in

Arcene suspects it's something like an information overload but she's not a doctor to know that, and she definitely doesn't want to risk anything so she rarely uses that ability nowadays

But anyways, she saw a person that looks like a grown-up version of Summer, even she can see the similarities even though she's not the best in terms of remembering and recognizing facial features and the like, though, the thing that stand out the most on her face is the scar just left of her lips

But despite that, the woman has quite the smile on her face

"Mora! You look so different from the last time I saw you!" Garnet said

"And that was years ago! What else are you expecting?" The woman –probably Morana replied matter-of-fact before she hugs Garnet "Yeah, I missed you too."

"Alright Alright, as much as this reunion is nice, we probably shouldn't be doing this on the pathway." Arianell interrupted with a slight smile on her face as she prods the two

"Ah right…" Morana said sheepishly

"Aaahh…" Garnet also said sheepishly

Arcene looks at the sight before her with an unreadable face '... Years? They haven't met in years? Okay, what the heck happened?'

And as much as she is curious to find out what's going on, she doesn't want to ask because it might sound rude, or make her look like she's sticking her nose onto somewhere she shouldn't be, hence why she was left with the decision to just stay quiet

Old habits really dies hard

*Timeskip*

"You really think I'd be able to kill the Devil of Avalon? Come on, you should already know that flattery will get you nowhere, you're still gonna pay your borrowed money from me no matter what happens." Morana said with a little bit of amusement in her eyes despite her serious tone, Garnet merely clicked his tongue upon hearing her response

"Thought I'd be able to trick you this one time." Garnet said

"You know that'll never happen in hundreds of years." Morana said while smirking a bit

Their banter continue as Arcene merely looks around the buildings of Atlas with mild curiosity

'Hm hm hm hmm.' Arcene mentally hums to herself the general tune of one particular boss music, Ludwig, The Holy Blade as she imagines another "scene" of the most than likely forever unwritten book

After a while, she hears the topic of the chat between Garnet and Morana shifted to her, or she assumes it's her

"Hey, you think she's planning to join the military? Because her walk looks awfully like an officer's way of walking with her hands behind her back and her feet movements and her serious expression that shouldn't be on a child's face." Morana said to Garnet with a joking tone, though some worry does bleed into it

Garnet merely shakes his head in response before saying "That's just how she is, and besides, as much as I can see, she doesn't really want to fight anything at all."

"A pacifist, are you sure she's your daughter?" Morana said in a joking and Garnet laughed in response

"Oh shut, I'm not that bad." Garnet said in response, also in a joking tone

"Keep telling yourself that." Morana said

And so, their discussion continued on

Really, is silence too hard to ask for? I guess in this family, the answer is yes, it's only her and Mom that could actually be quiet for long periods of time, the fact that Summer is sleeping is just a blessing

"-trikes annihilated the whole area! I swear, we're gonna wi-"

Though, that shouldn't be a shock since it's already nighttime, actually, it's been night for hours now

"-spen was shocked I tell you! I couldn't sto-"

Arcene silently sighs once more, oh how she wishes to just eternally rest in peace, saves her a lot of trouble and headache, something that would more than likely be occurring more and more as she slowly marches into adulthood

"-ember his expression, I mean, who wouldn't be surprised at someone who voluntarily joins the Atlas mili-"

And because of that thought, Arcene started thinking of what girls usually complain about in their teenage years, and this caused her to sigh once more, albeit this time, more loudly

"-wear, he's getting a bit too old, we almost died, but hey, Lady Lu-"

Really, this reincarnation is both a blessing and a curse, while for one, this is her second shot at life and could fix and/or avoid irreversible mistakes that she made in her past life, but on the other hand, this is her second shot at life and she has now have to relive life… The oh so cruel life…

"-nell was not happy with how I handl-"

Oh how she can't wait for the headaches to slowly come to her one by one

January 7, 48 - Atlas (Explicit Location unknown)

"Ah, Arcy is asleep." Arianell said to both Garnet and Morana after she noticed Arcene sleeping

"She's a strong one huh? It's what, midnight? That's some durability she has for a six year old." Morana commented "Little Red on the other hand fell asleep even before I met her, too bad."

"So… How's your career?" Garnet asked Morana "Still doing okay?"

"Haha… Maybe… I'm staying as a Major for now though." Morana said just before she snaps her fingers

And then, the blinds suddenly closes and the walls and doors be coated with some sort of blue aura, this caused both Garnet and Arianell to look more serious

"And our investigation was a success… Something I had hoped wouldn't happen…" Morana continued with a somber tone

"You mean…" Arianell said but trailed off

"Yes… Grimm Pools was found in Solitas… What's worse is that every single one that was found was hidden very cleverly… We don't know how many more there are out there just hiding…" Morana said

"So… The theory of Solitas being too cold for Grimm Pools to exist there is debunked?" Arianell said but Morana merely shakes her head in response

"Well… Not exactly, the surface of Solitas might be since we haven't found a single Grimm Pool on the surface but-" but just as Morana is explaining, somebody interrupts her

"Not when you're underground…" Garnet said, interrupting Morana

"Alright, that was rude of you." Morana said to Garnet with slight annoyance in her voice who was smirking sheepishly in response "Anyways, he's right, there has been several Grimm Pools found in large cave systems, all of them were bombed to oblivion so far and currently, multiple scout groups has been sent to locate more Grimm Pools for now."

"It's not like I'm complaining but… Why are you here right now? Shouldn't you be… I don't know, a part of one of those scout groups? With your experience and all after all." Arianell asked to Morana, bringing up a fairly good point

"If Garnet were to ask that instead of you, I would've smacked him for not learning anything about the Order's history, but anyways, you definitely shouldn't be over-exhausting your best assets or there'll be major consequences." Morana answered and this caused Arianell to blink in surprise at how obvious it is

'And I definitely noticed that self-boasting there.' Arianell thought to herself

"I've been scouting, hunting, and destroying Grimm Pools around Solitas for the past years and even though I've only destroyed 4 so far, they're bound to give me a break." Morana continued "And besides, we haven't found a single one for the past year now, so even if they didn't give me any break, they'll just continue to waste resources, so, here I am now."

"I guess that makes sense." Arianell said while Garnet also nodded to show that he was also listening in

"Alright, that about sums up everything about my previous mission, but sheesh, I know you two said that you two will be going dark for a few years –and I don't know how you were allowed to do that– but I didn't expect that you wouldn't know the parameters of my recent mission already." Morana said because she knows very well what type of person Garnet is

"Yeah… We were a bit busy, you know." Garnet said in response and then Morana nodded in acknowledgement

"Yeah I get that." Morana said "After all, I was on a mission for almost 7, you know?"

And that got the trio to chuckle

--------------------

Fun Fact: Circumsense is derived from 2 words, one of them being the obvious one, sense and I'm pretty sure all of us knows what that means and then of course, the remaining one: Circum, it's apparently Latin which means "around" and/or "round", though that seems pretty obvious with words like "circumstance", "circumference", "circumstellar", and "circumnavigate" and Arcene noticed that too

If there's one thing I (and by extension, Arcene [don't forget, Arcene's past life = me]) am good at, it's noticing unusual patterns (sometimes) on things

A/N: The longest chapter to write so far… Practically took 2 months to finish, some of probably thought that this has been unofficially (and without any announcements) discontinued and I don't blame you for that

Also, to somewhat explain the middle-to-end parts of the chapter, the Rose family was on an airport waiting for an airship to Atlas on an evening in which Summer is tired and sleepy and that is the actual reason why she tripped

And then, in the middle of the flight, Summer fell asleep, anything after is I think pretty self-explanatory so I'll stop there

For some reason, I can't quite wrap my head around military ranks, whether they be commissioned or non-commissioned ones
