Reunion

-

"Vasati!" I exclaimed as I threw myself into her arms. She immediately hugged me back.

"It's been a while, Eira," Vasati said giddily.

"Oh, my. Are you two..." I had gone and forgotten we were inside of a restaurant and the foxkin girl was smiling at us.

Before I could answer even answer her Vasati spoke up.

"Yup, she's my wife," Vasati said with a smirk.

"Vasati, we're only engaged!" I shouted, feeling embarrassed.

"Ah, you're engaged!" the foxkin girl exclaimed happily.

"Congratulations! You should try our specialty Vanilla Lovers Latte," she announced with a broad smile.

"'What."" Vasati and I both said.

"Don't worry, we'll bring it right out for you," she said with a smile and sprinted towards what appeared to be the kitchen.

-

"Please Enjoy." The foxkin girl brought what looked like a large Latte with a heart-shaped straw with one on each side. She then scampered off quickly.

"You've gotta be kidding me," I said to myself.

"Wouldn't you like to try doing things that couples do?" Vasati asked with a slight pout on her face.

"Fine," I sighed and sat down at my seat.

Vasati moved over to where I was sitting by the window and sat down across from me. There was a table that separated the two of us and a chair on each side that we sat on. Having to stare Vasati down to drink the Latte didn't sound very amusing.

I asked, “Vasati, do we need to do this?"

"It's only natural that we share this type of drink since we're engaged," Vasati said as she took a sip from her straw.

"So what have you been up to for the past five years?" Vasati asked me.

"Traveling to and from forests, villages, and cities." I brushed over her question lightly.

"You were lucky you got to train with Farru. He's really pretty and he's who the council calls the "Demons Race's Secret Weapon". I wish I could have trained with him instead of that old hag." Vasati complained.

"Did you just call, Master Karina an old hag?" I was completely lost for words from Vasati's statement.

"Yeah, she's the absolute worst. Anytime I slept in she would fire spells at me in my bedroom... there were many times I had to pay for damages to an inn." She sighed.

"Wow, I had no idea Master Kariana could be that harsh.." I leaned to take a sip of the drink and Vasati tried to take one at the same time as me.

As I gazed into her eyes, I couldn't help but feel captivated by the intensity of her piercing black gaze. My heart began to beat faster and my breaths became shorter as I found myself unable to look away. As I quickly moved away from her, I couldn't help but notice the rapid beating of my heart.

"Is it just me or is this girl making me crazy?" I pondered to myself, my mind racing with questions.

"Eira, are you ok?” Vasati looked at me curiously as I sat in silence after the event.

“Y-Yeah, I’m fine,” I said frantically.

She leaned forward across the table, her hair falling over her shoulders as she pressed her forehead gently against mine. I could feel my heart thudding in my chest, the sound almost deafening in my ears. I sat frozen, staring into her eyes as she held me in her gaze. The moment felt like an eternity, but then she pulled back to her seat, leaving me staring at her in silence for a few seconds.

"Are you sure you don't have a fever Eira? Your forehead is pretty warm, especially for a vampire." She stated emphatically.

"I-I'm not sick i-idiot." I huffed and sipped more of the latte.

The more we chatted the more we started talking about some of the adventures we had on each of our journeys.

Vasati for example had taken out an entire cult of black magic users. Black Magic was a forbidden magic that could be used to bring the dead back to life. It was of course outlawed hundreds of years ago, but it is very interesting to see that some people try to use it to this day despite the risks.

Using Black Magic forced you to give up your own life force. It was truly a magic that I have known to stay clear of for a while now.

“Eira. That Hero invited us to the location of a new hideout that she made.” Vasati said to me with a more serious look on her face.

“So she took that role seriously, eh,” I said remembering the fact that we had given her access to the funds we received from the Warminster Quest.

“Eira, I understand that you want me to trust her, but I still don’t.. she must be plotting something. No human would ever help demons for just no reason.” Vasati’s normally cheerful gaze was clouded by doubt for once.

“Vasati, I understand why you doubt her, but she won’t betray us. She definitely has a reason to fight for us now.” I smirked.

“Yeah, Yeah I know. So are you excited to see everyone again?” Vasati asked me.

“Somewhat.”

“What does that mean?”

“It means that it wouldn’t be the most important thing on my list.”

"What would be the most important? Hmm." Vasati leaned in and took a sip as I was drinking again.

“Stop doing that, Vasati,” I complained.

"Stop doing what?" she asked, her tone becoming more flirtatious.

I waved the foxkin girl over from her post at the door.

“We’re ready to pay, we will box up the cakes,” I said politely.

As we walked down the streets of Fraize hand in hand I read a map that was sent in the mail to me by Haru a couple of days ago.

Her drawing skills were almost as horrible as my childhood friend Haruka in my past life. The picture map seemed to show a bunch of dots that were supposed to lead us to the hideout that was marked with a giant X on the map.

There were barely any landmarks to go off of so I genuinely didn’t know which direction we should be walking.

“Haru better not ever draw a map ever again,” I said starting to let anger cloud my face.

“Yeah, this is by far the worst thing I’ve ever seen before.” Vasati insulted her with a smirk.

“It looks like the academy is the only landmark we have to go off.” I said as I pointed at the huge rectangle that was labeled “School” on the map.

“If it wasn’t labeled, there is no way we would ever be able to find this.” I sulked.

Suddenly as we were walking I remembered that I gained the ability to track people with blood magic. If I had ever come into direct contact with someone they were able to be tracked by this magic.

“Blood Tracing”

I felt an overwhelming energy flow through my body and I felt my fangs ache.

Focusing my attention on that Hero, I began to see a walking trail she had traveled about 3 hours ago leading past the academy into the underground slums.

Not all Inhumans lived a good life in the capital. The very poor Inhumans were banished to live underground over 100 years ago. The matter wasn’t exactly pretty down there.

“Vasati. Looks like we're gonna have to go through the slums.” I told her as I began to change the direction we were walking in.

“She really built our secret lair in the slums… this Hero might be dumber than I thought.” Vasati shrugged her shoulders and followed me in the direction I was walking in.

“Well into the slums we go.”
