Chapter 2: Magic

‘Sleeping and eating that’s all I’m doing,’ i thought as i lay on my bed.

‘Time for that to change’ i thought, getting out of my bed.

I searched for Erwin, Arthur’s butler and magical assistant.

“Sir, are you sure we shouldn’t move from here.”

I heard from downstairs, Erwin speaking to Arthur.

“Come on Erwin, just because you don’t like the demi-humans in this city.”

“They’re not trust worthy, we should move to Vivid city north-east from here.”

“It’s too far; it will take at least a week to get there.”

“I’ll search the city for a mid-air floating orb, with that we should be there in just a day.”

I tried to peek at them from between the railings.

“Alex, come down, it’s your fifth birthday right,” Arthur said.

“I can learn magic right?” i said, going down the stairs.

“Oh yes, but i have to explain to you what kind of magic user you can be.”

“What kind of magic user are you dad?”

“I’m a wizard, a wizard is magic user that pursues knowledge of magic, while a mage is a magic user that pursues great magical power in the elements or other powers that’s not considered evil, if they’re found out to practice the evil arts they’ll be called an evil mage.”

“What about an evil wizard?”

“Yes there’s that too, there’s also one who pursues knowledge in all forms called arcanist.”

“Then aren’t they the same as an evil wizard.”

“No, arcanist is neutral and usually only care about knowledge.”

“I want to be an arcanist.”

“What? Why not be wizards like me and Erwin?”

“Arcanist sounds like i can learn more and it sounds cooler.”

“Kids these days...well i can’t teach you the arcane ways so you’ll just have to be a wizard for now.”

“But isn’t an arcanist learn every form of ma-“

“For now you’re a wizard am i clear?”  He said, staring at my eyes.

“Yes dad.”

“Now that’s settled let’s find you a wand.”

“I can go outside!”

I’m really excited; i never went out of the house before.

“Yes we’re going outside, but first you need a bath, and a change of clothes.”

No way, going out with this pink pajama is impossible.

“I’ll go and clean myself; i don’t need Erwin helping me.”

I went upstairs into my room and picked up white underwear with a blue one piece dress.

‘Shame on me for wearing little girl’s outfits.’

Even though it’s shameful i got used to it.

I went to the bath room next to my room.

I turned on the shower first to let the smelly water out.

While i was waiting for the water i looked at myself with the wall mirror.

White hair reaching my waist, red eyes with a chubby face.

“Are you okay in there Alex?”

“I’m okay.”

I started to shower using soap and shampoo, the water was warm and comfortable.

As i finished showering and wearing my clothes, Arthur went inside.

“Just look at your hair, you still can’t take care of yourself.”

He touched my head and started stroking my hair, it felt warm.

The next thing i knew my hair is dry and smooth.

“Now you look better, now let’s get you a wand.”

We went through the front door but the carriage that’s usually in front of the house is gone.

“Erwin used the carriage so we have to go on foot” he said, tapping his staff on the floor.

The morning sunlight was warm.

We walked for about 14 minutes until we saw a lot people.

There were not only humans but humanoid animals, goblins, orcs, elves, and many more.

“Here’s the city center, there’s a wand shop here but it’s crowded and i know a better place.”

We walked straight until the streets are less crowded.

We stopped beside a small store called Hand Fitting Wand and staves.

“Hello...Wilbur are you there?” he said, opening the door to the shop.

“Come in, come in Arthur it’s been a while how are you doing buddy and who is this?”

“Fine Wilbur, i need your help to find a wand for this young lady,” he said, pulling me from behind me.”

“Is this your daughter? Look at you even though you’re in the fifties.”

“Her name is Alex and Alex this Old man is Wilbur.”

“Nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you too Alex.”

“Wilbur let’s get her magic signature first.”

“Right wait a minute,” he said, going to the back of the shop.

“Here, you just have to touch this.” he said, holding a glass ball in front of me.

I touched the ball and it started to shine with crimson red color.

“Done, now let’s upload this to the Weave,” he said, going to the back of the store.

“Dad what’s the Weave?”

“It’s a huge spell that cover the whole world with the center of the spell being the magic city Miracle city, you can also access it if you have a magic item like this,” Wilbur said, pulling out a somewhat big purple book with a web like symbol as the front and back cover.

“Can i also get this book?”

“No, you need to be at least 13 years old as that’s the legal age for wizards and mages.”

 “Ok it’s done your signature was uploaded, now let’s make your wand.”

Picking a wand for me was very abnormal.

A wand is made of a magic core and something to channel it usually made of special wood.

But none of the cores reacted to me.

“Arthur maybe she’s a sorcerer, she’s adopted right?”

“Yes she is adopted.”

“What’s a sorcerer?”

“A magic user that has innate magical power, a sorcerer shouldn’t need a wand because sorcerers usually already have powerful magic,” Wilbur explained.

“Let’s just make her a magic battery.”

I stared at the silver necklace with a red gem around my neck.

“I’m sorry Alex that i didn’t get you a wand, so what can i do make it up to you?”

“Explore the city.”

“Haha then let’s explore the city.”

Naive city is one of the biggest cities in the world that’s neutral and accepts even humanoid monsters like vampire and Ogres.

The city was founded by a legendary warrior who made friends from a variety of races and wanted a city where there’s no discrimination.

The friends of the warrior called him naive so the city was named Naive city.

The city was created at the year 3046 of the miracle calendar, now it’s the year 3274.

The culture of this city is also very mixed and confusing.

I also noticed that Arthur is very rich as he has only gold coins instead of the usual paper money.

The lowest universal money is 1 credit with the highest is 10.000 credits or a gold coin.

And because of Dads riches, a police owl questioned him of its origins and his job.

A good thing Erwin found us and explained.

“You’re always getting into so much trouble sir.”

“That’s why i have you,” He said, carrying me into the carriage.

“So why did you and came here.”

“To make Alex a wand, but she might be a sorcerer as we didn’t find any suitable wand.”

“Let’s figure out her power at the house.”

When we came home Erwin prepared 3 bowls of fire, water, and earth.

“Try putting in your hands in them and don’t worry about the.”

I tried putting my hands in but i didn’t feel anything even the fire didn’t hurt me.

After that Erwin touched my head with both of his hands.

“Try feeling the air.”

I did that but all i felt was the warmth of Erwin’s hands.

“It hurts.”

Suddenly my skin cracked and blood seeped out.

“What did you do Erwin!?”

“I just gave my mana to her.”

“I’m fine dad.”

My skin is back to normal, there isn’t even any blood.

“Your body turned back to normal?” dad said, touching my head.

“I think so.”

“Time manupilation...That’s a good ability.”

After that incident i took a bath and went to sleep.

The next morning Dad finally teaches me magic.

‘Why is it dad teaching me and not Erwin?’

“Alex can i borrow your necklace.”

I gave it to dad and when he took it, it started to shine with blue light.

“Here try to feel the mana inside,” he said, giving me the now blue gem.

It took me all day but i felt it, mana.

“Dad i felt it.”

“Really?”

“Did i do great?”

“Normally it takes a week to feel mana, now let’s move to the next step” he said, touching the blue gem and it turned back to red.

“Try to store your mana to this gem.”

When i tried to, it didn’t work.

From one day.

To 5 weeks.

To 10 years.

After my failure to control magic doesn’t mean i can’t use magic.

Over the years i still learned magic, math, science, it’s just that i can’t use my own mana.

I tried all kinds of solutions but it all failed.

Dad suggested visiting the immortals, the expert in life force.

They did have a solution, they said that i have too much physical energy and soul energy, because of that they won’t combine into mana but it’s a perfect situation for immortals as they practice the body and mind separately.

So i have to train at least until core formation to fix my condition.

So here i am, as a disciple of prominent sect in Sunset Mountain west from Naive city.
