Welcome all players! This is the place to get all the info you need to get started playing with everyone here. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Character Creation! Start off with a level 1 character first. You are welcome, and even encouraged, to make use of any 5E Compatible content that you can find. The only requirement is that it needs to be actual published material and that we can approve it just to ensure nothing overly broken is used. Note this does include any indie published work, such as what you can find on DriveThruRPG, etc. In addition, you can even mix and match this content to create even more unique characters. Want to play a Dual pistol wielding Droid Wizard? Yep, that's allowed. Just make sure all the individual elements you use follow the requirements outlined above. You can always ask @GothicShark or @Caios for approval. (This list will likely get updated in the future.) Otherwise, you create a character just the same as you would any other 5e character. Select a race, a starting class, a background, and add any skills, feats, tools, language, or any other features you get from the combination of the three. If you can, please try to provide references to any content you plan to use.

Ability Scores: The only hard rule of character creation will be the starting ability scores for all characters and how to distribute them. We are using a point buy system. You start with 10 in all Abilities and have 15 points to distribute any way you want among those scores. You can reduce an ability score down to 8 to move those points elsewhere. [10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10] + 15

For Example: You spend 8 of the starting 15 points right away to get an 18. Leaving you with 7 points remaining. Then use 6 of those remaining points to get a 16, now you only have 1 point left. Deciding that's not enough you lower one score to 8, and now have 3 points to use to get a 13.

Your total Ability Scores are now: 18, 16, 13, 10, 10, 8.

You will know that your ability totals are correct if they sum up to 75 total, before any added racial or other bonuses. One important note is that for the purposes of this game, you cannot have any Ability Score above 18 after character creation at level 1. This includes added bonuses such as from racial features. Later on, there will be plenty of opportunities to increase a stat score up to 20, and perhaps beyond that. However as everyone starts off as a normal human, you have not yet transcended past the limit of average human capacity.

From the example above, say you wanted to use those stats to create a Human Wizard character. You want Intelligence to be your highest stat, but you already have an 18 as your highest stat. Knowing the Human (Default) gives a +1 bonus to all your ability scores, you change the distribution around to account for it. Removing 1 point from the 18 and the 16, then adding a point to the 13 and the 8, giving you a distribution of 17, 15, 14, 10, 10, 9.

With your Human stat improvements your final scores are: 18, 16, 15, 11, 11, 10

Finally, your level 1 Wizard would have:

Strength - 10

Dexterity - 15

Constitution - 16

Intelligence - 18

Wisdom - 11

Charisma - 11

Gear and Money: As some people will be using different systems, they may end up with wildly varying currency types. Eventually as the world evolves a single currency standard will be used. If you’re Just starting out, however, you will be using USD as this story starts off in New York. Here are some conversion values that will be helpful for now.

$1 USD = 1 copper piece 1 gold piece = $100 USD 1 Galactic Credit = $10 USD

In general, you can start with the same starting gear that your character would have as you build your character under whatever relevant ruleset you are using. So, a Fantasy Dwarf Fighter might start with Scale Mail and a Battle Axe, while a Sith Sentinel might start with Fiber Armor and a Light Saber, etc. Whatever currency you have left can be converted to the standard value as described above.
