After the Great Disappearance, the world was in a panic never before seen or even dreamt of. The rich were buying underground bunkers like it was the latest fad, while the people who couldn't afford it dug holes in the ground to shelter themselves. Others traveled to places they thought would be 'safe,' some going as far as abandoning their families to do so. In this time of chaos, the pope, who everyone looked on for hope, longing to hear some good news, stirred things up even more in his address to the people. He was in Rome, standing on a pulpit with a microphone on it. He tapped the mic, cleared his throat, and began,

"You have seen the signs. I am sure. Earthquakes that destroy entire cities, floods that wipe out populations, hurricanes that go on for months, and things that are well beyond our understanding."

He paused and looked through his notes. Knowing that his words were being broadcasted all over the globe, he chose his words carefully as he continued,

"These are signs, I tell you, signs of something much, much worse that will come upon us."

The unease of the people listening to him was palpable. They were probably expecting a hopeful twist on things, grasping for something, anything to hold on to, but he would not give them that. Rather, he chose to lead them to the depths of despair.

"Brethren, we are entering the time as prophesized by Saint Ignacius VI."

Those who knew what he was referring to grew sickeningly pale while the ignorant betrayed looks of confusion. Seeing this, he shook his head and explained,

"It's a time very much like this one, which ends in the extinction of humanity as we know it, and I'm afraid we are moving along in that direction."

It was like he had suddenly dropped a bomb at the center of the crowd, and before he knew it, everyone had scattered in a frenzied panic. As he watched them all go, he added, for dramatic effect,

"We are doomed! Doomed, I tell you! There's no hope for us anymore!"

He said this full of the same concern and gentleness that the pope used whenever he addressed the people, but he was snickering inwardly, thinking to himself,

I've played my part magnificently... Hopefully, I'll get that promotion now. The rest is up to the Madam and her allies.
