An endless dark stretch of midnight sky,

Amidst pale winking stars

A haunting moon, gaunt and glaring

The earth coated with layers of snow

A bitter cold, nipping the skin,

The flesh with frigid, splintering frost

Needle pinching

Snow falling gently, in a bleak, white

Solemnly beautiful

Untouchable world

A lonesome figure clad in white,

Long dark hair, gently drifting through the chilly air

Shuddering from a waking nightmare

One he cannot escape from

Not from many long years

Waiting for someone

Lost to the world

A bright, blaze once extinguished

A long instrument propped against him,

Delicate flicks, and gently pulls

A melody blooms in the dark

Like a lotus flower, struggling to stay afloat

The melody, so soft

Whispers of love and loss

Pain and longing

A yearning left buried

Aching

Desire unfulfilled

Always, always

Waiting

Waiting

Waiting

For an answer

To his calling

To his song,

empty without the other half

Of his soul

The answering tune

He's needed for so long,

Waited for what feels like

Eons

The sorrow deep and frozen

A glazed over lake

The lonesome figure

Heaves a broken, hoarse sigh

Of many tears over

A thousand and more nights

And it drifts

Like a ghostly phantom,

In such frigid wind

Dancing

Whispering a name

In a desperate call

Hoping one day,

If ever

That person would return to him

And together they would live on,

Side by side

Never to part again.

Winter Nights

Alone

Are always the longest and hardest to bear.
