Yvlena picked up the vial and examined the clear, shimmering liquid with a bit of greenish tint to it. If this was the Verdant Dew that could sprout flowers, then why didn’t Alfred know he could use this to enrich the soil?

Seeing as the bottle she had it in was too big, Yvlena decided to transfer the small amount of dew into a vial perfect for the amount she had gotten from the thin root. She placed the previous bottle back into her inventory, hoping to use it for something else later down the line.

She had a feeling she was only getting started here.

“Enough of that, we just have to show Alfred our discovery when we’re done here,” Yvlena said, slipping the vial into her inventory.

The thin root withered away and disappeared as soon as she had chopped it off from where it was growing in the wall.

She worked on the small roots, chopping them and collecting the fluids that ran free from each cut she made. Her summons worked with her, providing assistance and light where she needed it.

Wiping the none existent sweat from her brow, it was time for her to face the large, gnarled root growing out from the wall.

She had to be careful not to burst the pods lining it or else, who knew what could happen or what enemies would arise.

Yvlena had a feeling her scythe wouldn’t be enough to cut down the root, but she decided to try anyway. She approached the root with Rabbit Knight, and together they used their blades to strike the wooden surface of the root, but it didn’t make a dent despite the force they used.

The pod jiggled but otherwise did not move as it was stuck to the side of the root.

Yvlena stepped back from the infected root and recalled she had not yet upgraded her scythe with the second scythe piece she had gotten from the world quest.

“Let’s see if this will work,” she said

[Yes/No]

Yvlena accepted, and just like before, there was a flash of light. Yvlena held the brightness away from her, nearly dropping the Moon Sickle. Her summons covered their eyes, taking cover behind one of the barrels of wine that lined the cellar.

The light died down, and Yvlena looked at her new weapon in surprise.

The handle was longer now and much lighter to hold.

The blade seemed to hum with strength, turning the pinkish color of her Rose ore upgrade to a slightly darker lilac. The blade curved a bit further as she tried slicing through the air, the sickle glided, working with her dexterity to cut through the air with little resistance.

“Wow.” Yvlena gasped, she noticed the roses on the hilt had grown longer, possibly meaning her Rose’s fury would increase in range. Before she could begin thinking of new ways to utilize her blade, she headed to the thick branch and brought her Sickle down as hard as she could.

It still did not cut through.

“The only other option is my axe, but I guess if it’s mine, it’s not just any axe, is it?” she said with a small sigh before retrieving it from her inventory.

It had been a while since Yvlena had decided to use her axe to chop anything down, now, she noticed that where before it was rusty and worn, her use of it had sharpened the blade. She didn’t understand how the tools of the Harvest Guardian worked, but she would not question the game.

“Alright, let’s see if this will help.” she said, telling her summons to step back as she hefted the weighty axe over her head.

She struck one root at the base, causing a large dent to appear on the surface.

“There we go.” she said, bringing the axe down again until the Miasmic sap began leaking. She took out a bottle, and like before, she placed it under the root to fill up.

Soon after the dew came rushing out, some split on the floor before Yvlena could place the bottle, but she watched as the liquid was absorbed into the wooden floor of the basement, leaving a shiny patch where it once stained the ground.

“I have a few ideas I could use it for, starting with Alfred’s garden.” Yvlena said to herself as she finished off the rest of the root. It withered away, disappearing into the walls, but her work was not yet finished as the cellar went deeper than she thought.

“Sprite, see if you can light up the rest of these torches on the walls so we don’t have to hold on to mine.” she said.

The fairy saluted and began blasting small balls of magic at the torches lining the wall. They lit up with an ethereal glow bright enough to see into the distance of the cellar, but as they walked, Yvlena found her path blocked by a thicket of wood.

‘That’s not going to stop me’ she thought, lifting her axe and chopping through the wood with practiced ease. The sticks didn’t leak anything like she thought they would. Yvlena huffed, expecting she would have been able to collect more Miasmic Sap or Verdant Dew.

“What can I even do with that?” she asked, but accepted it into her inventory nonetheless, maybe it could make for easier firewood. She assumed. It would be a good idea to look through all her items with the Adiri spec later, after she got back to the inn.

“I hope to be done with this before lunch.” She said.

The party kept walking through the cellar until they came across the next set of roots growing into the cellar. Yvlena lifted her axe and was about to strike when something large emerged from the darkness.

“What is…”

A large, dark rat scurried out of the shadows, hissing. Yvlena took a hesitant step back when she saw what had come into the light. It was a rat as large as a man with eyes darkened by the miasma, its fur grew in sharp, pointed bristles like a porcupine, and its tail was tipped with a small weight like a club.

It didn’t take her long to understand this rat had been feeding off the Miasmic sap. Yvlena gulped, trading her axe for the upgraded Moon Scythe.

The rat noticed her and ran towards her with a maddening screech.
