Under the darkness of massive trees, he wandered, lost and alone, searching for a name that would give him purpose. As the cold wind swept through the branches and shadows danced around him, he felt the weight of his loneliness pressing down on him.

His eyes darted around, scanning the darkness for some kind of sign, some kind of hope. And then, as if by some divine intervention, the name "Lucifer" whispered through the shadows, filling him with a sense of wonder and hope.

He stopped in his tracks, as the very sound of the name sent shivers down his spine. It was a name that evoked both fear and admiration. The name itself was powerful, and he knew that by choosing it, he would be forever connected to the dark lord of the underworld.

The very thought of it filled him with excitement and anticipation. He envisioned himself as a powerful being; feared and revered by all. He saw himself as the king of all, with power beyond measure. With this name, he attached all his ambitions and goals in life.

Just like how Lucifer rebelled against God, he would rebel against his own current god - the system. He would break past its shackles and achieve true freedom, carving out his own destiny.

The name "Lucifer" was more than just a word to him; it was a symbol of his rebirth, a sign of his defiance. And with it, he would rise up and claim his rightful place in the world, never to be held down again.

But as he uttered the name into the darkness, he couldn't shake off the feeling of terror and horror that it evoked. It was as if the very name was a key that unlocked a portal to the underworld, unleashing unspeakable evil into the world.

Despite the fear, he knew that he had found what he had been searching for, and he would do whatever it takes to achieve his goals, even if it meant delving into the depths of darkness.

'Hmm, why does it say 'given'? Is the system implying that someone else had control over this? Did I really have a say in it, or was it all predetermined by the system itself?'

'Wait a minute... Why did the name 'Lucifer' just pop into my mind? That's... unsettling. Why would such a terrifying name even come up?'

'Oh no, am I being overly paranoid? But I can't shake this feeling that there's something deeply ominous about it.'

.

'Hmph, how can someone with a name like Lucifer be scared of something so trivial? Maybe it's just a bizarre coincidence. Yeah, that must be it.'

.

'Hmm, but it's hard not to sense that there's some hidden significance behind all of this. It's like a puzzle I can't quite put together.'

'Anyway, I should remember this as something peculiar, but for now, there are more urgent matters to address. I'll keep it at the back of my mind for now.'

After analysing till here, he decided to check his status window first.

'Hmm, it took me a good two hours to come up with a name. Was it really worth all that time?'

'Well, maybe it was. I mean, I did end up with a pretty good name in the end. And now that I have it, I feel much calmer than before. So I guess it was time well spent after all.'

...

As a ghost, Lucifer floated through the forest, searching for any nearby human settlements. He wanted to understand the principles of the fear gathering system by experimenting on humans.

He assumed that the fear gathering system would be most effective in gathering fear points from humans, as animals are less intelligent and less susceptible to the fear of ghosts.

He moved cautiously through the dense forest, staying alert for any signs of high-energy life forms. He knew that encountering such beings could trigger his energy-saving mode, and he did not want to risk losing any more of his precious energy and enter that darkness of energy saving mode again.

His incorporeal form quivered with a profound sense of dread at the mere thought of energy saving mode. A shudder ran through his ethereal essence, and he found himself collapsing onto the ground, his spectral body unable to support its own weight. The memory of that all-encompassing darkness, that engulfing void that had devoured him in its clutches, flooded his mind with vivid intensity. It was as though the very idea of it threatened to suffocate him, his heart pounding in his spectral chest with sheer terror.

'No, no, no,' his thoughts echoed in a desperate plea. 'I cannot return to that place. I cannot endure that suffocating darkness once more.' Fragmented recollections of the experience clouded his mind, but the paralyzing fear it had instilled within him remained crystal clear. He felt his spectral form losing control, growing increasingly unstable as his terror spiraled out of control.

'I must escape,' he resolved, his mind racing in panic. 'I must find a way to evade that dreadful darkness, to shield myself from its clutches.' The very notion of that abysmal void threatened to asphyxiate him, and he knew in the depths of his being that he would go to any lengths to avoid it. Lying there, sprawled upon the ground, his thoughts racing with trepidation, he made an oath to himself, his voice trembling with a mix of terror and determination.

"Never again shall that darkness consume me," he vowed, his words resonating with an unwavering resolve. The sheer gravity of his promise hung heavy in the air, his spectral presence pulsating with a newfound determination to elude the relentless abyss that haunted him.

.....

The search continued for hours. Lucifer moved deeper into the forest, navigating through the dense foliage and keeping his senses sharp.

He encountered many animals, but none that posed any significant threat to him. At one point, he stumbled upon a small stream, and he followed it, hoping it would lead him to a human settlement.

After following the stream for some time, he emerged from the forest's edge. He moved quickly, driven by the desire to find a human settlement before his energy ran out. As he floated over the landscape, he scanned the horizon for any signs of human habitation.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, he spotted a small village in the distance. His heart lifted with hope as he floated towards it, eager to begin his experiments and discover the secrets of the fear gathering system.

....

The small mortal village was bustling with activity as the sun shone down upon it. The wooden barricade surrounding it were small but sturdy, protecting the inhabitants from the dangers of the wild animals that roamed periphery of the nearby forest. The population of the village was about 300, and their main occupation was farming.

As Lucifer floated above the village, he noticed that the villagers were dressed in ancient Chinese-style clothing, indicating the Xianxia origin of the world. The men wore long robes with wide sleeves and the women wore colorful dresses with flowing skirts. Some of the villagers were tending to the crops, while others were carrying baskets filled with fruits and vegetables.

Lucifer watched from above, intrigued by the simplicity of the mortal village. He wondered if these mortals had any fear to offer, and if they did, how he could collect it.

He hovered around the edges of the village, seeking out a quiet spot with fewer people around.

Eventually, he came across a farmer tending to his crops in a secluded corner of the village. Careful not to startle the man, Lucifer floated towards him and observed him from a distance. As the farmer bent down to pluck some vegetables, Lucifer slowly materialized himself, inching closer to the farmer until he was directly in front of him.

To his surprise, the farmer did not flinch or show any signs of fear. Instead, he simply looked up, a bored expression on his face. Lucifer realized that he was indeed invisible to the mortal human population.

He continued his experiment by appearing before a few more villagers who were alone, but each time the results were the same. It was as if they couldn't perceive his presence at all.

As Lucifer was about to proceed with his other experiments, he suddenly heard a notification from the system.

[0.1 Fear Point absorbed]

Lucifer was surprised to receive a system notification that he had gained 0.1 fear point. Confused, he looked around but found nothing to explain it.

Then, he noticed a small house nearby and decided to investigate. As he entered, he saw a young girl cowering in fear at the sight of a small wall lizard on the wall.

It dawned on him that he didn't necessarily need to be the source of fear to gather fear points. Instead, he only needed to be within the absorbable range of the humans to collect the points, regardless of the source of their fear.

Lucifer observed the girl carefully, noting how she trembled and avoided looking at the lizard. He realized that her fear was real and could be harnessed.

He decided to test his theory further by moving closer to her and observing the change in his fear point status. As he moved closer, the notification flashed again, this time showing an increase of 0.2 fear points.

Lucifer was excited by this discovery, and he decided to try it on other villagers to confirm his theory.

But before moving out, he decided to ask the system about the range of his fear absorption ability. The system replied that the range was 10 meters. This meant that he could gather fear points from any human within that radius, regardless of the source of their fear.

After that, Lucifer conducted several experiments for an hour. He observed and learned many things about himself and the fear-gathering system. In the end, he was also able to collect 1 fear point and some important data.

.....

The things Lucifer learned about himself:

1. He is invisible to humans.

2. He can pass through solid objects.

3. Some animals can sense him but not clearly see him.

4. He cannot move any living or non-living object.

5. He can pass through living beings but cannot possess them.

The things he learned about the fear gathering system:

1. The absorbable range is 10 meters.

2. It can absorb fear on humans from any source but it should be above a certain threshold.

3. It can collect animal fear but its value is so small that it is negligible.

4. 1 fear point = 1 energy point = 2 hours of lifespan.
