A day in the life of a C-class adventure (3)

Storm wolves, one of the strongest c class monsters, with all the abilities of whirlwind wolves add to that speed and ferocity, much greater than them. Add the fact they sometimes lead several packs of whirlwind wolves along with fact they possess Lightning Powers such as a breath attack, they were monsters that need considerable preparation to hunt.

The ginormous wolf covered the distance between us in an instant as it tried to claw at me with its claws covered in a vortex of wind and lightning, causing my already cracked pendant to be on the verge of breaking, seeing the attack fail it turned its eyes onto the 2nd most powerful member of our party, Kyra.

Covering its other claw with lightning it attacked Kyra. Creating a wind wall with her spirits Kyra managed to slow down the attack enough to allow Oliver to reach in front of her and block the attack. The claw tore through his black iron shield as if paper at the same time the lightning fried his arm so much that just looking at it made me understand that he could not move it any time soon.

Seeing its attack fail it charged up electricity in its horn as sparks began to appear on it, instantly causing the overcast weather to start thundering. ‘It’s going to redirect lightning’ realising what it was going to do based on what I had heard from other adventurers, I countered its move.

4th circle magic call lightning

My spell caused the almost formed thunderbolt from the clouds to change directions instantaneously and attack the glowing horn on its head. [Call lightning] usually summons a thunderbolt from the sky but in cloudy or rain weather the power of the spell is enhanced (sometimes up to 5 fold) as it redirects nearby lightning by using the summoned bolt as a conduit.

Managing to startle the ginormous wolf with that spell, I watched as it quickly ran back to where it came from 2 seconds ago, that was the good news. The bad news was that because the spell was so strong that even with me and the rest of the party being more than 3 meters from the wolf when the spell hit the wolf we were hit by a splash of extra damage.

That splash was enough that my shield which was barley holding on was destroyed and David who had rushed in front of the other two to protect them had a large split in his shield along with several burns on his arms from the heating of the metal caused by the lightning strike.

Not noticing that we were more damaged than it, the storm wolf looked at us with a bit of fear in its eyes as it gave short howl and bolted into the inner forest, as the rest of the whirlwind wolves charged at us.

‘If not for the fact that bitch is resistant to lightning it would be dead right now; NO, now isn’t the time to think of what ifs. We have to run but the question is how, both the tankers are injured, David can make do with a potion while Oliver needs healing at the church, Kyra and I are the only people left that can fight right now. Adding to this is the fact the commotion here would have attracted the other monsters, one of us would have to stay here and other would have to escort the other 2 out.’ Looking at Kyra that seemed to be thinking what I was thinking looked at me nodded and said “I’ll d-“

“Run”

Not giving her the chance to explain I casted magic

4th circle magic adamant rampart

Creating a white dome made of marble 3 meters tall, and boxing us in and preventing the wolves to attack us; at least for some time.  Just after casting [light] to light up the dome Kyra came straight to my face and screamed me “you should be the one to getaway, it’s my fault that, the storm wolf ambushed us, I should be the one to stay behind.”

Seeing her get so worked I couldn’t help but give a wry smile as I said “It isn’t your fault.” I wasn’t lying to make her feel better.  Storm wolves have considerable stealth qualities betting of the phrase of the calm before the storm, as for why I told her to run “I’m better at attracting attention, you’re better at escorting, so take them with you and run” gesturing to Oliver and David that standing there with pale faces.

Looking at them she seemed to make up her mind and agreed to my plan, ‘well there was one more reason but that’ll have to wait’. Opening an underground tunnel using spirit-arts she took Oliver and David with her and left but not before saying “you better come back”

“of course”

Seeing them go I waited for about 10 min for them to get away as I felt more and more monsters attacking the dome that I had made. 10 min later I started casting various spells as I began my plan.

3rd circle magic float, 3rd circle magic rock explosion

As I started levitating in the air the dome around me exploded as sharp shards of marble struck at the surrounding monsters, stunning them for a second with the loud sound and a volley of sharp stones; seizing the time they were unaware I used to other spells.

1st circle magic digX32 2nd circle magic dispersing wind

Buffing myself with dispersing wind, I watched as a giant clouds of dust arose from my surroundings as the earth beneath the monsters gave way, an area within a radius of 100m of me was turned into a giant pit that was 30 meters deep, with me floating in the center of it I prepared my next spell.

3rd circle magic lightning arrow

2 magic circles formed around me which then quickly turned to 4 then, 8, 16, 32, and finally 64, then from each of the 64 circle purple arrows made lightning shot towards the hundreds of various monsters in the pit bellow. With each hit producing a *crack* of lightning as it hit its target followed by a loud *boom* as it produced an electrically charged explosion.

Staying in the air I was out of reach of most monsters and the only monsters that could hurt me from there were the whirlwind wolves, but their air hammers were easily resolved by dispersing winds, leaving me to fry every single one of the monsters with relative ease.

About 30 seconds after the start of the barrage of spell at the monsters I Sensed rumblings coming from the forest. I knew it then that it was time to leave this part of the forest, before I got surrounded by monsters that could attack me.

4th circle magic lightning travel

A magic circle formed beneath each of my feet as lightning bolts appeared beneath my feet and carried me to the edge of the makeshift arena. Looking back at the destruction I caused, I could not help but think that this is the reason why magicians are rated so highly in this world in terms of combat strength, versatility and the ability to alter the battlefield. While spirit users may possess a similar ability to change the battlefield to their advantage, they lack versatility, as usually they only form contracts with spirits of one or two types. Not sure if the others had made it it far enough I used magic to further taunt the monsters in the forest.

1st circle magic booming voice

“Listen up! Shit heads I am the 4th circle magician Sybil Altese, and I will be your doom and the doom of every one of our mothers as well” saying such lines to gather more attention to myself, I ran through the forest slowly increasing my distance from the inner forest, but at the same time increasing my distance from the path taken by the others.

‘I am more tired than I thought, that little stunt took about 40% of my total magic power’ having such thoughts as I ran I tried to decrease my use of magic power whenever and wherever possible.

“Remember Sybil, what matters most when using magic is how you intend to use it, dig is usually used in construction, but can play a vital role when dealing with opponents, by making them loose their footing or at the very least move from that place, use prudently it can make for an excellent crowd control spell, provided the enemy is on the ground of course”

“I understand master, but I had a question about the way yo-“

*BEEP*BEEP*BEEP*

“Every fucking time” muttering to myself I used [1st circle magic missile] to explode the kobold’s head, which had entered it former cave that I had occupied. It had been 8 hours since I caused a stampede in the inner forest and during that time I had managed to escape from the monsters.

Though not fully unharmed; a lucky hit by a dire-panther a c-rank monster with strong stealth abilities had disembowelled me, and the constant chasing by the monsters had caused made my self-done stiches to open over and over again, over the course of this time period I had to redo these over 3 times.

Right now I was taking shelter in a kobold den I had cleared. I had placed alarm magic outside the den to alert me of intruders, and was trying to not move too much to prevent me from losing too much blood.

‘Though I’m sure it is meaningless, I’ll be dead in less than 15 mins anyway', I’ve already lost too much blood and even if I do survive that the infection that will follow will truly kill me.

Thinking such thoughts I was passing in and out of consciousness when suddenly a shadow appeared to take shape outside my peripheral vision; turning my head slightly I saw a shadowy man like figure with 2 piercing blue eyes that were glowing in the dark cave. The figure looked at me and asked “what is your whish?”

Looking at the figure cloaked in darkness I couldn’t help but think ‘Ah, the devil’
