The next night under the canopy of the wilderness, the trio and Luka huddled around a crackling campfire, their faces illuminated by the warm glow. Luka's eyes held a certain intensity as he gazed at Ji-Yeon, his voice carrying a sense of urgency.

Luka (softely): " Child, our path lies further east, where the domain of the serpent deity resides. Even in its dormant state, its protective barrier remains intact. It's the safest place for you to delve into the realm of dreams within the scroll."

Ji-Yeon's jet black eyes met Luka's, a mixture of determination and apprehension swimming within them.

Ji-Yeon: "And there, I'll find the key to unlock the map of the shades of the sword?"

Luka nodded, his gaze unwavering.

Luka: "Indeed. Time is against us now that Lyra knows about you and your companions. We must hasten but we will lewve the horses behind, since it's easier to hide our tracks without them."

Luka's thoughtful gaze scanned the group before he finally spoke, his voice carrying a measured seriousness.

Luka: (Thoughtfully) "To enter the domain of the serpent deity and access the realm of dreams within the scroll, one among you must pass a test. The nature of this test varies for each individual, a reflection of their inner struggles and fears."

Ji-Yeon's eyes widened at the revelation, and she exchanged a quick glance with Min-Jae, her concern mirrored in his gaze.

Min-Jae: (Resolute) "Then let it be me. Ji-Yeon has already shouldered more than her share of burdens. It's time for me to do my part."

Ji-Yeon's lips parted as if to protest, but she closed them with a conflicted expression. Luka's gaze lingered on Min-Jae for a moment before he nodded in acknowledgment.

Luka: (Softly) "Very well. Your selflessness is admirable, Min-Jae. But remember, the test will not be easy. It will demand a reckoning with your past and a confrontation with your deepest regrets."

And so,  as they journeyed through the lush landscapes of the continent, Ji-Yeon seized the opportunity to share more about the serpent deity's significance without revealing her secret.

Ji-Yeon: (Treading carefully) "The serpent deity is an ancient guardian, a force that transcends time. It has a vested interest in our journey, its whispers guiding us toward our destiny."

Sora's eyes sparkled with curiosity, her voice a mixture of awe and intrigue.

Sora: "But how do you know all this?"

Ji-Yeon's fingers unconsciously brushed against the medallion at her neck.

Ji-Yeon: "The medallion... it carries the whispers of the deity, a connection that has guided me."

Luka's gaze softened, a knowing smile curving his lips as he watched Ji-Yeon's delicate dance of secrets and truths.

Luka: (Gently) "A clever way to veil your knowledge."

Their path was winding and treacherous, leading them deeper into the heart of the untamed wilderness. Yet, just as they were finding their rhythm, a thunderous roar echoed through the forest, halting their progress. A colossal creature, a guardian of these lands, emerged from the shadows, eyes blazing with fury.

The Guardian of Regrets stood before them, a towering and ominous figure. Its form was a blend of twisted and shadowy elements, as if it were crafted from the very essence of sorrow. Its body was cloaked in tattered, ethereal tendrils that writhed and swayed with an eerie grace. Its eyes gleamed with a malevolent crimson light, and its mouth opened to reveal rows of jagged teeth. Spectral mist enveloped its sinewy limbs, and its obsidian wings seemed to absorb the light around them. This was a creature that embodied the weight of past sorrows and haunted memories, a sentinel born from the darkness that clung to regrets.

The creature was an embodiment of Min-Jae's past and fears. Its form wavered, shifting between the faces of those who had once held significance in his life. Its eyes bore a haunting familiarity, each gaze a mirror into a memory he had long tried to bury.

Flashes of a sunlit village, a decision made in haste, and the aftermath of destruction played like a painful montage in Min-Jae's mind. He could feel the weight of the lives lost, the guilt of his own choices pressing down on him.

Min-Jae's heart raced, the weight of his past crashing over him. The specter of his younger brother stared at him, eyes filled with unspoken words. Another manifestation took the shape of his mentor, his once-guiding presence now distorted by malevolent energy.

Ji-Yeon's eyes brimmed with concern as Min-Jae faced the Guardian, his inner turmoil evident in his tense stance. Her fingers twitched, ready to intervene, but a hand on her shoulder stopped her. Luka's gaze was steady, a silent reminder that this test was Min-Jae's to face.

As the battle with the Guardian of Regrets reached its climax, Min-Jae's resolve was tested like never before. The memories, both painful and cherished, resurfaced in a tumultuous storm. His brother's laughter, the mentor's teachings, the weight of choices made – they all converged in a battle that transcended the physical.

The Guardian wavered, its form shifting erratically as Min-Jae's emotions surged. And then, in a final burst of determination, Min-Jae's sword struck true, shattering the Guardian's visage. The specters dissolved into shimmering fragments, dispersing into the air.

Amidst the dissipating echoes, Min-Jae's breaths came ragged, his chest heaving with exhaustion and catharsis. Ji-Yeon approached him, her expression soft with unspoken understanding. She placed a hand on his shoulder, her presence a wordless affirmation of his strength.

Ji-Yeon: "You faced your past, Min-Jae. You overcame it."

Min-Jae's gaze met hers, gratitude and relief shining in his eyes. The others gathered around, a silent understanding passing between them. The Guardian of Regrets had been more than just a physical challenge – it had been a test of strength, both physical and emotional.

Sora grinned, breaking the tension with her trademark playfulness.

Sora: "Well, that was a wild ride! But we make a pretty good team, huh?"

Ji-Yeon couldn't help but smile in return, a sense of unity and camaraderie filling the air.

Ji-Yeon: "Indeed, we do."

As the sun began to set, casting a warm golden glow over the landscape, Luka's gaze remained thoughtful, as if he knew that their journey was far from over. The challenges they had faced were mere stepping stones toward a greater purpose, a destiny that awaited them beyond the horizon.

The moon hung low in the sky, casting a shimmering path across the surface of the nearby lake. Exhausted from the battle with the Guardian of Regrets, the quartet of companions found solace in the tranquil haven of the water's edge. They sat in a circle, the flames of their campfire flickering in the night, their faces illuminated by its warm glow.

For a while, they basked in the silence, each lost in their own thoughts and the haunting echoes of the past they had faced. It was Min-Jae who finally broke the stillness, his voice carrying a weight of vulnerability he had seldom shown.

Min-Jae: (Softly) "You all deserve to know... my past."

His words hung in the air, a promise of trust that drew their attention. Ji-Yeon's eyes met his, and she offered a silent nod of understanding. With a deep breath, Min-Jae began to share the fragments of his past that had shaped him into the person he was now.

He spoke of a time when he was a young boy, barely into his teenage years, living in a tranquil village. He painted a vivid picture of a vibrant younger brother, a constant source of joy and laughter. The memory of his brother's absence still carved a deep void in his heart, a wound that had never truly healed.

But then, the narrative took a darker turn as Min-Jae delved into the day that had changed everything. He recounted the events of a fateful day when the village had come under the grip of chaos. It was a day when his world had unraveled, and he found himself facing a perilous choice.

His voice wavered as he recounted how his father a figure he respected got consumed by dark magic, and ended up killing his younger brother because of that one moment of hesitation he made, he explained how this madness came to be, that it was all because of a mage who came to their village holding a little girl, the mage somehow lost his mind that night, his power spiraling out of control causing normal people to descende into madness, which placed all of Min-Jae's loved ones and fellow villagers in grave danger. And in that desperate moment, a mere child of twelve years old, Ji-Yeon, stood at the crossroads of destiny. With no other choice to spare the village and the innocent people, she had made the unimaginable decision to end her mentor's life, sacrificing his life to save countless others.

The weight of that memory lingered in the air, its impact profound. Ji-Yeon's watery eyes met Min-Jae's, and a shared understanding passed between them, bridging the gap of the unspoken. The connection between their pasts had been forged in the crucible of sacrifice and pain.

As Min-Jae finished sharing his tale, there was a collective pause, the heavy words hanging in the air. Then, Sora's voice broke through the silence, infusing the moment with her trademark playfulness.

Sora: (Playfully) "Well, now that we're sharing, I have to say – I don't have any dramatic stories like that to tell."

A chuckle rippled through the group, the tension of the moment giving way to a lighthearted exchange. Sora's carefree attitude was a welcome contrast, a reminder that their camaraderie was as much about shared laughter as shared struggles.

Ji-Yeon: (Teasingly) "Don't worry, Sora. Not all of us have a tragic backstory."

Sora pouted, but a smile danced at the corner of her lips, and they all joined in laughter.

Amidst the mirth, Luka's gaze remained fixed on Ji-Yeon, his eyes holding a knowing depth. He understood that her connection with Sora went beyond what they could share with words. A thread of destiny woven with secrets and unspoken truths bound them together, and he could only wonder how long it would take for that thread to unravel, revealing the intricate tapestry beneath.

Early in the next morning, the quartet went back towards their destination, the forest path seemed to guide them with an uncanny sense of purpose, as if the very land recognized their presence. Luka's guidance had led them to this mystical threshold, the gateway to the serpent deity's domain. A sense of reverence hung in the air as they stood at the entrance, the air charged with a mysterious energy.

A whisper of wind rustled through the trees, and Ji-Yeon's heart skipped a beat. She could feel it, an unseen presence that resonated deep within her. It was here, within this enigmatic domain, that she would face her most feared moment. She exchanged a glance with Min-Jae and Sora, their shared determination and trepidation unspoken.

With a step forward, they crossed the threshold, and the world around them shifted. The forest transformed into an ethereal landscape, colors vibrant and surreal. The air hummed with a melodic harmony, an echo of power that transcended mortal comprehension.

Ji-Yeon's gaze drifted, her senses attuned to the otherworldly aura. She heard the rustle of leaves, the soft susurrus of a hidden stream. And then, as if carried by the very wind itself, a voice reached her ears – familiar, yet ancient, a symphony of memories and echoes.

"Child, you are finally here. Welcome back."
