The Goddess of Autumn (8)

After the rain, the mortal realm flourished again.

I strolled through the streets and bought a lot of snacks from every food stall.

"Miss Qiu," Ye Wenqu, who has just returned from the court, happened to see me.

"Miss is shopping," Ye Wenqu said with a smile, looking at my arms full of snacks and smiling.

He looked great in his court attire. Especially with this kind of apperance and his tall figure, he will look good in anything he wears.

He picked up a flower hairpin with begonia-shaped tassels from the side, looked at me and said,"This hairpin suits you well."

"Well, not bad," I glanced at the hairpin and it indeed looked beautiful.

He smiled gently and pinned the beautiful hairpin into my hair bun. As he was doing that, I could smell the faint sandalwood fragrance from his sleeves.

"It's very beautiful," Ye Wenqu looked at me, his face slightly flushed, and said with a gentle smile.

Looking at Ye Wenqu, I suddenly thought of a saying from the mortal realm.

"The lady in the field is as beautiful a jade, while the handsome young man is unparalleled in the world."

Badump! Badump! I felt my heart beating rapidly. I couldn't have developed feelings for a mortal, could I?

"Master, it's her!" A voice suddenly came from behind.

I turned around and saw Qin Jin standing not too far from me, the mortal whose limbs had been broken by me was also carried over by someone.

"Master, you must bring justice for me! This vile woman intruded into my house without reason and beat me into this state!" 

Qin Jin looked at me with eyes full of anger and resentment and said, "Come, bring this woman who assaulted Imperial Censor Lin back to the Royal Palace. This King wants to personally interrogate her."

"Nobody is allowed to touch her!" Ye Wenqu stood in front of me and said firmly.

"Why? Is Top Scholar Ye trying to protect her?" Qin Jin asked.

"There is no cleary evidence present, how can you arbitrarily arrest someone!"

Hearing Ye Wenqu say this, I hurriedly whispered to Ye Wenqu, "He really was beaten by me."

Ye Wenqu looked at me in shock.

I looked at the mortal and said, "For someone like you who mistreats your wife and assaults other women, you being beaten to death is not even worth the pity."

'I feel like beating them again. I might need to control my strength as to not kill these disgusting mortals.' I thought to myself.

"Your Highness, look! She admitted it. Quickly! Seize her... ahhhhhh!" 

This mortal was too excited that he tore his wound, causing him to scream in pain.

"Imperial Censor Lin, even if this young lady beat you, her action could be considered as eliminating harm for the people," Ye Wenqu still stood in front of me.

"Top Scholar Ye, Imperial Censor Lin has served the country and the people. What do you mean by that?" Qin Jin said.

"What service to the country and the people?" Ye Wenqu sneered.

"Imperial Censor Lin, during your tenure, you extorted the people, engaged in corruption, forcefully took women, harmed loyal subjects, and causing the people to suffer. Is this your way of serving the country and the people?"

"Slander! You're just slandering me!" Imperial Censor Lin's face turned pale as he argued.

"This morning at the court, I submitted various pieces of evidence of your official misconduct to the emperor. Accusations like this should be known to the emperor."

"You... you... Your Highness, you..." Imperial Censor Lin looked at Qin Jin with a pale face.

Soon, a group of people arrived. After saluting Qin Jin, the leader presented a token and said, "Take Imperial Censor Lin back to the Ministry of Justice."

As soon as the words were spoken, a few attendants stepped forward to arrest Imperial Censor Lin.

"Your Highness! Your Highness! Save me!" Imperial Censor Lin shouted to Qin Jin with his face full of fear, .

"With such actions, how can this king save you?" Qin Jin said coldly.

"King Jin, I did it all because of you ........." Before Imperial Censor Lin could finish his words, an arrow was shot into his heart. He died on the spot, and the man in black who shot the arrow fled quickly.

Seeing Imperial Censor Lin being shot, Ye Wenqu quickly covered my eyes.

"Go after him!" the Deputy Minister of Justice shouted, leading a team of people in pursuit.

Qin Jin showed a sinister smile and rode away on his horse.

I took off Ye Wenqu's hand that was covering my eyes.

Unexpectedly, he blocked my vision again, saying, "Miss Qiu, don't look. It's very scary."

How could I be scared? After all, his limbs had been broken by me. I sighed and turned around to leave.

However, Ye Wenqu grabbed my hand and said, "Miss Qiu always comes and goes without a trace. If I want to see miss, where should I look?"

"The Temple of the Goddess of Autumn."

I shook off his hand and left.

When I returned to the temple, all I could think of was the image of Ye Wenqu placing the hairpin in my hair and holding my hand. I shook my head quickly. How could I possibly like a mortal? It must be that I hadn't seen any handsome male immortals lately, that's why I found Ye Wenqu so eye-catching. I must go to Kunlun Mountain with Xia and have a good look next time.

The next day, before I even woke up, I heard Ye Wenqu's voice.

"Miss Qiu! Miss Qiu!"

So, I yawned and revealed myself, "What is it?"

"Miss Qiu, I thought about it all night after going back. I've figured it out."

 He exhaled slowly and then said seriously, "Miss Qiu, I like you. I would like to marry you."

"Ha?"

"I don't want Miss Qiu to fall into dangers like yesterday again. I also don't want to be uncertain about Miss Qiu's whereabouts every time we part. I want to protect you, I want to see you every day. Although I don't know where you comes from, I'm willing to spend my whole life guarding and protecting you. So, Miss Qiu, I want to marry you. Will you marry me?" Ye Wenqu looked at me expectantly.

Hearing his words, my red luan star kept beating restlessly. 

I am goddess, with a lifespan matching that of the heavens and earth, while he is just a mortal, only living for a few short decades. Even if he loved me deeply in this life, what about the next one? In the next life, he wouldn't be Ye Wenqu, and he would forget me. But he was special to me, I had never encountered someone like him before.

Seeing my hesitation, Ye Wenqu spoke again, "Miss Qiu, It's okay if you can't decide now, it doesn't matter. I can wait. As long as Miss is happy, I can accept any result."

After saying this, he slowly left, and from his back, I could distinctly see shis dejection.

I didn't know what to do. I only had a feeling of wanting to escape. In the end, I cast a spell and went back to heaven.

The poem: 陌上人如玉,公子世无双 ( mo shang ren ru yu, gong zi shi wu shuang )

Where as 陌上 in this case roughly translates to farmland/field/high places.

-> The lady in the field is as beautiful a jade, while the handsome young man is unparalleled in the world.  

So this poem is basically saying that the girl and the guy are like soulmates, matched perfectly. :D
