Chapter 4: The Examination and Test.

The medical center.

Cadmus.

2005.

Avery Gallahan POV.

“But I'll need to discuss the matter with the director, but I don't see why not, just as long as you can handle it." The good doctor sent a wink and a smirk at the sorceress.

"Oh, I assure you, Doctor, I can handle anything that is thrown at me," Tala replied as she looked at me, her eyes lingering on my body for a moment longer than necessary.

“Now back to business, the examination shall start shortly. But first, let me show you something else."

The good doctor then took out a strange-looking device that was shaped like a ring, it was about the size of a watch.

"This is called the Bio-watch, and it's a unique piece of technology that is designed to monitor your vitals, your biological functions, and your abilities. It's also capable of monitoring how much energy your body is generating, absorbing, processing, and storing."

The good doctor then hands me the device, and I take it and examine it for a moment before slipping it onto my hand. It's surprisingly light and comfortable, and it feels like it was made just for me.

“Another thing to note, we don't know how much energy you can absorb or store, but judging by your fight with Livewire, and the energy levels in the training room, you've already surpassed the energy limit of what to be expected of you.”

"So the higher the levels of energy that your body can absorb, the stronger you will become," Tala added. "And the more powerful and dangerous you will be. Which means the more potential you have."

“Thank you I keep that in mind then.” I smiled thinly at the both of them.

Tala simply smirked. "Anything you want, my dear."

I could feel my face heating a little at her words and the way she was looking at me.

"Don't get too attached to Three, Tala," the good doctor said, her tone a bit playful.

"I can't help it, Doctor, he is quite the specimen," Tala replied, a smirk tugging at her lips.

"I'm not a specimen, and I'm not an experiment," I said, trying to keep my cool.

"Of course not, dear," the sorceress said, her voice taking on a slight teasing note."You are so much more than that."

"Now come along, Three, the examination room is this way," the good doctor said, interrupting the exchange and gesturing for us to follow her.

"Don't worry, my dear, I'll be gentle," Tala whispered, her breath warm against my ear.

“And what exactly do you do?” I asked, holding back a shiver at her touch.

"I am a sorceress, and I am well-versed in the mystical arts," the woman replied, her voice taking on a slight note of pride. “I am the head of Cadmus' magic division, and I have a great deal of experience when it comes to dealing with things that most people can only dream of."

I couldn't help but notice the slight emphasis on the word "experience" and the way the sorceress' lips curled up into a smirk.

"So are you the one in charge of all the magical and mystical research and development?" I asked a slight hint of sarcasm in my voice.

"Yes, but don't let the title fool you, I am also the head of Cadmus' supernatural research and development, and the director has entrusted me with finding and studying creatures and beings that most people would consider mythical, legendary, or simply impossible," the sorceress replied, her voice taking on a slightly wistful note.

“And why do you mean when you say you are gentle?”

“Oh, I'm just going to do a ‘light’ magical scan of your body, that's all. Nothing too intrusive, Machines can do many things, but they can't pick up the more subtle things." The woman smiled. "So I'll just use a little magic, it won't hurt, and you won't even know it's happening."

I frowned slightly. "Alright, but just the scan, no tests or experiments."

Tala chuckled. "I'll try to contain myself, my dear, but no promises."

I rolled my eyes. "Great."

"Oh, don't be so glum, Three, this will be fun," the sorceress said, a slightly teasing tone in her voice.

"For who?"

"Well, me, of course," the woman replied, a small smile tugging at her lips.

————————————————

5 minutes later.

“So I just lay down on this thing?” I asked, looking at the exam bed in the Medical room.

"Yes, it's very simple, we'll just run some tests, and then we'll do a quick physical, and we'll be done before you know it," the good doctor said, her tone taking on a reassuring note.”But first Tala my dear would you do the honor?”

“Of course doctor,” The sorceress then began chanting under her breath and moving her hands in a complex pattern.

Suddenly a purple aura began to glow around the sorceress, and her eyes began to glow with an unearthly light. Then without warning, the sorceress touched me and the purple aura seemed to pass through me, and I felt a strange tingling sensation throughout my body.

I can only look on in fascination and slight fear as the sorceress continues to chant and move her hands in a complex pattern. I never thought in my 40 years of life that I would see someone doing real magic. But here I am, and I have to say, it's a sight to behold.

As the purple aura fades, the sorceress opens her eyes and smiles.

"Oh, my, aren't you a special one," the sorceress breathed, a small smile tugging at her lips. “Such powerful, yet unique and fascinating energy. It's like nothing I have ever felt before. It is pure and unbridled. It is almost primal. And it is also quite dangerous."

"Dangerous?" I asked, a slight edge to my voice.

"Yes, dangerous," the sorceress replied, a small hint of caution in her tone. "It is a wild and untamed force of nature. It is not meant to be contained or controlled. It is meant to be unleashed."

"That's not exactly comforting," I muttered.

"It is not meant to be," the sorceress replied, her tone slightly teasing. “But overall everything seems fine.”

“Well,” Dr. Yamazaki clapped her hands before I brought my attention back to her. "Let's get started with the tests."

For the next hour or so, the three of us ran a series of tests, and I went through a full-body examination. They used a variety of equipment, including X-rays, MRI scans, and more.

"Well, everything seems to be in order," the good doctor said, her voice taking on a note of relief.

"Yep, I didn't find anything wrong, the physical is normal," Tala added.

“So nothing wrong so far?” I inquire.

"No, everything is fine, your body is perfectly healthy, and there's nothing to worry about," the good doctor replied.

"That's a relief," I sighed, the tension in my body dissipating.

“Although…” The good doctor began with a smirk on her face. ”If you are up to it, there is something else that we can do, something that will provide a greater insight into your body's capabilities, and it will help us determine what your limits are."

I looked at the good doctor and the sorceress, and I could see a small hint of excitement in their eyes.

“Alright, it's not like I got anything better to do anyway. So what are we going to do? Going to put me on some sort of treadmill and measure how much energy my body is capable of producing or absorbing?" I asked a small note of sarcasm in my voice. “Or you going make me lift a couple of tons or run a couple of miles?

"Oh, it going to be all of that, and must more, a lot more in fact," the good doctor said, her voice taking on a slightly excited tone. "We are going to run you through a series of physical and mental tests, and we're going to push you to your limits, and then beyond."

“Then we are going to put you through one last test.” Tala turned to the good doctor with a know-it-all grin.

"One last test?"

"Yes, one last test, and it's the one that's going to put you to the test, and it's going to show us exactly what you're capable of," the good doctor replied, her voice taking on a dramatic note. "It's the test that's going to determine if you're truly worthy of the name 'Project Skyfall.'"

“It is a bit of a pet project of both Tala and I, and we are sure you'll enjoy it."

I could feel the apprehension building up inside of me. Both of the women then have sinister smiles on their faces as they look at each other.

"I'm not going to like this, am I?" I asked, a small note of dread in my voice.

"Trust us, Three, it's going to be fun, and you're going to enjoy it," the good doctor reassured, her tone taking on a slightly teasing note.

I couldn't help but shudder as the women shared another sinister smile.

"Right..."

————————————————

Another 5 minutes later.

The elevator stopped on the exact floor of my room and training room, and the door opened. The three of us exited the elevator with the two guards and walked down the hallway toward a large set of doors.

"This is it, Three, are you ready?" The good doctor asked, a slight note of anticipation in her voice.

“I guess?” I shrugged. “But where are we going anyway? This is the floor I resided in and where the training room is.”

"Oh, we are not going to the training room, my dear," the sorceress replied. "We are going somewhere else, somewhere more...special."

"Special?"

"Yes, special," the good doctor said, her voice taking on a dramatic note. “But Later, we need to go to the special gym first THEN the special room later.”

“O...kay?” I raise an eyebrow in suspicion at that. “What's so special about it? This gym I mean.”

The good doctor simply smiled. "You'll see."

As we entered the gym, I saw a variety of workout equipment and machinery, and I could tell that this was the place where the guards, mercenaries, and agents worked out and trained. Multiple people were all suddenly staring at us, specifically at me, some were wide-eyed, some were looking at me in suspicion, and some had a hostile look in their eyes.

“Very Friendly crowd We got here Doc…” I muttered low enough for the doc and Tala to hear.

"They are just curious, Three," the good doctor said, her voice taking a reassuring note. "It's not every day that they see a living experiment, and they are not used to you being here, but they will come around eventually."

Yeah right… I rolled my eyes at that, but I could understand their suspicion and hostility. Here was a freak of science that had somehow got the power, and ability to do things that most humans can only dream of, and can easily kill them, and is walking amongst them, a walking weapon of mass destruction.

“So you finally decided to bring your pet project to the gym, Dr. Yamazaki?" A very familiar voice pops up.

Turning around I saw the super mercenary and my personal trainer Deathstroke. Who was lying on a Weight Bench and in the process of benching, what seems to be, a couple of tons of weights. More than the best Olympic lifter could even imagine.

"Oh, come now, Slade, don't be so harsh on the guy," the good doctor said, her voice taking on a playful tone. ”Just setting up Three for the physical and endurance training.”

The super mercenary grunted at that as he finished his reps and got up, his muscles flexing and glistening with sweat.

"He's got a long way to go, Doc, but he's getting better," the super mercenary said as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.

Huh… out of all of the people to get a compliment from. I didn't expect it to be from the Mercenary. You know? The world's best killer for hire and all?

"Oh, he's doing much better than any of your other students and protégé, Slade," the sorceress said, her voice taking on a slightly sardonic note.

The terminator snorted. "Yeah, right, he can barely keep up with me, and his skills are amateurish at best. But I can tell he's getting better. Just give him time."

"Don't sell yourself short, Slade," the good doctor said, her voice taking on a reassuring tone. "You have done a great job so far, and you've helped Three improve significantly."

Super Mercenary hummed at that. "So you do need help with endurance and physical training?"

Oh boy…I didn't like the sound of that.

"Yep," the good doctor replied, her voice taking a slightly playful tone. "And we were wondering if you could give us a hand. And you know you can't deny the fact that you like beating him up."

"That's not true, Doc," the mercenary said, a small smirk tugging at his lips.

"Sure, and I'm a saint," the sorceress drawled, a wry smile on her face.

Deathstroke nodded then put his fingers in his mouth and whistled in a tune, causing everybody in the gym to leave except the two guards and the four of us. The good doctor then turns to me.

“Now let me show you how to use the Bio-watch,” Dr. Yamazaki then pointed to the device around my wrist. “The watch is linked to my datapad so during the endurance and physical test. I can track your vitals, blood pressure, heart rate, brain activity, and your energy levels, which will allow me to monitor your progress, and determine the effectiveness of the training regimen.”

The good doctor then showed me a holographic screen projected from her datapad, which displayed a series of charts and numbers.

"These are your basic vitals, and as you can see, they're all normal," the good doctor said. ”And these numbers are right here.”

Dr. Yamazaki then tapped on one line of numbers specifically on the top of the screen. "Show how much power is inside of you right now.”

[5420 megawatts per hour]

[648% more power than the average human]

“You know doc, I think I finally recognized something,” I said, causing her to raise an eyebrow. “So my power is basically Absorption Empowerment, which allows me to absorb and store energy. Whether it be heat, kinetic, electricity, solar, or even psionic energy, etc. I feel like we repeating this many times now but the more I absorb, the stronger and more powerful I become. That's the basic gist of it, right?

"Yes, that's pretty much the gist of it," the good doctor replied.

"What would happen if I reach 1 million power?"

“Oh, we already estimated many times now you could even reach well beyond maybe even indefinitely what you can imagine. The more energy you absorb, the more powerful and dangerous you will become, and you could easily wipe out a city, and you might even become a threat to the entire world."

I blinked ‘Why does she say it like that?’ I thought as I looked at her strangely, why do I feel like this woman actually wants me to reach that point? I have had a very strong suspicion for a couple of months now that the good doctor may have some sort of ulterior motive that I wasn't able to figure out, and she may have some kind of agenda, either way, I don't like it.

But before I could say anything else, the super mercenary's voice rang out. "Alright, let's get started with the physical and endurance workout.”

Right…

————————————————-

25 minutes later.

Well, that was one hell of a workout. I was lying on one of the benches in the gym and painting. Remarkedly, I was barely sweating probably because of my enhanced physiology. But again still, Deathstroke was once a helluva trainer and coach. I never thought that someone could train me so hard and push me so far. But it wasn't just the strength and endurance training that was a challenge, but the mind games as well.

But still, we were able to determine and test a few things. And like everyone said before, The higher my power level is, the faster, stronger, and more resilient my body becomes. But the more power I absorb, the higher my energy levels become.

I can lift about 5 tons with ease now. Jump 50 feet high and run at about 70 MPH. But the endurance, resistance, and recovery time is the most impressive and terrifying thing. I can continue training and pushing myself, even after the normal human body has given out.

The training equipment that we used is obviously rated for an enhanced being like Me and Deathstroke. Because the regular weight benches, treadmills, etc. couldn't keep up.

And the endurance and physical training has been an important and challenging part of the program. My body can now handle a lot more physical punishment and stress than before. Evident with my fight against Livewire and my training with Deathstroke.

As I lay on the bench panting and trying to catch my breath. The good doctor came over and examined her datapad.

"Well, that was certainly a productive workout," the good doctor said, her voice taking a slightly teasing tone.

“I quite enjoyed that.” Tala's voice was equally playful as she licked her lip.

"Yeah, that was fun," I replied, a slight sarcasm in my voice.

I took a deep breath and let it out. My body was still tingling from the workout, and I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins.

"So you think you're ready for the final test?" The good doctor asked with a slight hint of excitement in her voice.

I was apprehensive about it. "I guess."

"Great, the special room is this way," the good doctor said, a smile tugging at her lips.

I groaned, and with the help of the good doctor, and the sorceress. We walked out of the gym and headed down the hallway toward a set of double doors. Both the good doctor and the sorceress then enter a security code into a keypad, and the doors open with a hiss.

"Welcome to the special ‘Testing room’, Three," the good doctor announced with a note of pride in her voice.

“Huh…this looks like the training room but… smaller.”

“Yes,” Tala said with a mischievous look on her face as her delicate hand gently pushed me into the testing room. “Would you kindly step in darling, then we can explain what this room is, and why it's special."

"Uh…okay but why are you so insistent?” I asked, now feeling more and more anxious.

"Don't worry, my dear," the sorceress purred. "This is just a precaution, and it's not going to kill you, I promise."

"Right..."

The moment I stepped into the room, the doors shut behind me, and the lock engaged.

"What the fuck?" I cursed.

"It's okay, Three," the good doctor said, her voice crackling, on the intercom, taking on a calming and reassuring note. “This is just a safety precaution. Now please stand in the middle of the room."

"And then what?"

"Just stand there, and the test will begin," the sorceress chimes in on the intercom, her voice taking a slightly coy note. “Now I'm going to let the good doctor here explain what is so special about this room, and why we wanted you in here so badly."

"Thank you, Tala, and you're right, this room is special. This room was specially designed and built for a specific purpose," the good doctor explained. “Armor testing and analysis."

"What? Why?"

"It's simple, Three, it's to test and analyze the durability and resistance of your body. To determine the strength, thickness, and resilience of your body," the good doctor replied.

"YOU USING ME AS A GODDAM TEST DUMMY!?"

"Basically yes, but it's a necessary and important part of the program, and it's a great way to measure your limits, and to push those limits to their breaking point."

"Great, just fucking great."

"Don't worry, Three, you're in good hands," the good doctor reassured.

I snorted. "Yeah, I feel much better now, thanks."

"Don't be such a baby, Three, it's not going to hurt, much," the sorceress chimed in.

"I don't like the sound of that."

"Oh, don't worry, we're just going to test your durability and resistance by attacking you with different kinds of projectiles, and weapons," the good doctor explained. “And more.”

“MORE?!!”

But I didn't get an answer because suddenly a panel on the ceiling opened up, and a strange-looking device descended from the ceiling.

"What the fuck is that thing?" I asked, my voice taking on a slight edge of fear.

"Oh, don't worry, it's just the testing laser, and it's not going to hurt…much," the good doctor replied.

"That does not make me feel better," I muttered.

"Relax, Three, it's not going to hurt, much," the sorceress drawled.

"You keep saying that," I retorted.

"Don't worry, Three, this is just the beginning, and it's just a matter of time before the real test starts," the good doctor said, her voice taking on a playful, taunting note.

“Fuck.” That's all I have to say.

Suddenly a blast of bright red light hit me square in the chest, and I felt my body vibrate with pain. The blast of energy continued to flow through me, and I gritted my teeth and tried to endure the pain.

This is going to be a very long day.
