••••••••••••••••••

Nie Li and Shen Xiu rushed into the classroom, well aware that they had only an hour before the school day began and students started to arrive. "Okay, what's the plan?" Shen Xiu asked urgently, looking to Nie Li for guidance.

Nie Li turned to the system.

"Take off your clothes," he said quickly, causing Shen Xiu to instinctively cover herself in shock.

Realizing how his words sounded, Nie Li hastily clarified, "Not like that! I mean, I need to use your clothes to create a communication array on them."

Shen Xiu, still trying to catch up, asked, "But what exactly is the plan? And what's a communication array?"

Nie Li didn't waste any time, pulling out demon beast ink and his inscription array brush.

"The plan is simple. I'll give you commands through the communication array," he explained, his hands moving swiftly to create the array, impressing even Shen Xiu with his speed.

"I'm still lost in all of this," Shen Xiu admitted, watching Nie Li work.

"Find me some new clothes and glasses to inscribe," Nie Li instructed without pausing his work.

"Glasses? Where am I supposed to find glasses?" Shen Xiu questioned, puzzled.

Nie Li stopped for a moment, giving her a knowing look.

The system had clearly indicated Shen Xiu would have glasses.

"You tell me," he said, prompting Shen Xiu to blush and sheepishly produce a pair of glasses from her belongings.

"Why do you have those?" Nie Li couldn't help but ask.

Admitting to a slight imperfection, Shen Xiu explained, "I'm a little shortsighted," as she put on the glasses.

Nie Li found himself taken aback by how the glasses accentuated her features, making her look even more attractive.

"What?" Shen Xiu asked, noticing Nie Li's reaction.

In a rare moment of openness, Nie Li complimented her softly, "You should wear them more often. You look pretty."

"Maybe I will," Shen Xiu whispered back, her voice so quiet it was almost a breath.

Yet, in the stillness of the room, her words reached Nie Li clearly, and both of them couldn't help but blush at the exchange.

.....

Shen Yue was fuming, the reasons stacking up like a precarious tower of irritation.

At the top of his list of grievances was his aunt, Shen Xiu, who seemed to have forgotten her primary mission at the Holy Orchid Institute—helping him win over Ye Ziyun.

Instead, she appeared to be off on her own adventures, notably with that nobody, Nie Li.

Rumors were swirling, and Shen Yue's ears had caught whispers that Shen Xiu had been seen leaping into the Black Tortoise dormitory, coincidentally the same dorm where Nie Li resided.

Further gossip reached him about his aunt and Nie Li lingering in the classroom long after school hours had ended.

Connecting the dots was painfully easy for Shen Yue.

"You're supposed to be orchestrating my love life, not starring in your own," he grumbled inwardly, his frustration boiling over.

The idea that Nie Li, a member of the declining Heavenly Marks family, could be involved with his aunt was baffling and infuriating.

Shen Yue couldn't fathom what Shen Xiu, known for her disdain for those beneath her, would see in Nie Li.

Shen Yue's attempts to display his "generosity" could only be described as a comedy of errors.

Each action he took, intended to paint him as a noble soul, to impress Ye Ziyun.

One day, with a flourish of self-importance, he declared, "I held the door open for a commoner. Truly, my generosity knows no bounds."

To him, this was an act befitting a hero of the people, never mind that the commoner was perfectly capable of opening the door themselves.

On another occasion, he made a show of sitting at the same table as a group of commoners in the dining hall. "See how I dine amongst the masses? I am a beacon of humility," he proclaimed, expecting awestruck admiration. Instead, the commoners simply wondered if Shen Yue was retarded?

Perhaps the most ludicrous act was when Shen Yue picked up a piece of trash someone had dropped and theatrically tossed it into the bin.

"Behold, I cleanse our institute with my own hands!" he announced, as if he had single-handedly saved the world from ruin.

The onlookers simply rolled their eyes.

Each act, no matter how trivial, was seen by Shen Yue as monumental.

"I drank water beside a commoner, for I am a saint," he once stated, puffing out his chest in pride. In his mind, these acts elevated him to the status of a paragon of virtue, a hero among men.

...

Shen Yue tried to impress Ye Ziyun by boasting about his recent act of "generosity." Sitting beside her, he eagerly shared, "So, last night, I gave all my leftovers to these commoners. Aren't I generous?"

He awaited her praise with a smug look on his face.

Ye Ziyun, however, offered him nothing more than a polite smile before turning her attention away, effectively ignoring his presence and his attempt at impressing her.

At that moment, Ye Ziyun's gaze drifted to the back of the class, where she noticed Elder Ye Xiu. The elder had made his presence known to her, a silent observer of the day's lesson. Ye Ziyun felt a wave of regret wash over her. She had voiced her complaints about the class to her aunt, not anticipating the consequences. Now, she feared those complaints would lead to her being separated from Xiao Ning'er and she couldn't ever reconnected with her long lost friend.

The classroom was abuzz with whispers and puzzled looks as the door swung open and Shen Xiu stepped in, her appearance today strikingly different from her usual lavender dress.

She was clad in a form-fitting, long-sleeved button-up shirt tucked neatly into her skirt, exuding a professional yet bold aura. The plunging neckline of her top added a touch of daring to her ensemble, and the glasses perched on her nose lent her an air of scholarly elegance.

The sudden transformation left many of the boys in class blushing, captivated by her beauty, yet there was a noticeable shift in her gaze and demeanor that hinted at something more.

Without missing a beat, Shen Xiu proceeded to draw three different inscription arrays on the board.

"Inscription arrays, what can some of you tell me about them?" she inquired, her voice carrying a tone that seemed almost too methodical, as if she was reciting directly from a book.

Then, unexpectedly, a voice from the back of the class called out, "Teacher Shen Xiu, we don't know?!"

The statement was bold, informal, and its tone grated on the ears of many students, who found it too forward.

The class held its breath, anticipating Shen Xiu's explosive reaction to such a brash interruption.

Yet, to everyone's astonishment, Shen Xiu merely smiled—a reaction so uncharacteristic of her that it sent ripples of shock through the classroom, including Shen Yue.

"It's okay, you are here to learn. Let me tell you everything you need to know!" she responded, her voice warm and encouraging.

A collective thought ran through the minds of the students: "Who are you, and what have you done to Shen Xiu?"

In the back of the classroom, the vice principal, Ye Shong, was keenly observing the unfolding events. His eyes darted around, searching for the student who had made the bold proclamation.

"What do you think, Elder? Isn't Teacher Shen Xiu amazing?" he whispered, noting the elder's nod of approval.

Even Elder Ye Xiu seemed intrigued, his eyes scanning the room for the source of that audacious voice.

The next three hours unfolded into what could only be described as a mesmerizing and educational spectacle.

Shen Xiu captivated every student with her lecture on inscription arrays, breaking down complex theories into understandable concepts with an ease that left the class in awe.

As the students filed out of the classroom, they couldn't stop talking about the experience.

"Did you see how she explained the third array? I've never understood it so clearly before!" one student exclaimed to another.

"I know, right? And when she demonstrated the practical application—mind-blowing!" replied the other, their enthusiasm palpable.

However, amidst the praise and wonder, a whisper of curiosity persisted.

"But who was that person? The one who kept making those bold comments?" one student pondered aloud, reflecting the collective curiosity of the class.

Throughout Shen Xiu's lecture, from time to time, that same informal and bold voice would interject with a statement or a question, each instance more intriguing than the last.

"Teacher, but how does that apply in real-world combat?" the voice challenged at one point, prompting a detailed explanation from Shen Xiu that illuminated the practical uses of inscription arrays in ways the students hadn't considered.

"And what about the limitations? Are there ways to overcome them?" the voice prodded again later, leading to an insightful discussion on the boundaries of inscription array use and potential breakthroughs.

Despite the mystery, no one could pinpoint who among them was speaking up.

The voice seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere.

.....

Standing before the vice principal and Elder Ye Xiu, Shen Xiu barely listened to Ye Shong's praises. Her focus was on the elder, who looked at the board and remarked, "I am sure Ye Ziyun is going to benefit a lot from you."

With that, the elder departed, Ye Shong trailing behind him.

Once they were gone, Shen Xiu sank into her chair, a wave of relief washing over her as she relaxed her shoulders. She took out her glasses and said softly, "Nie Li, everyone's gone. You can come back now."

"Okay," came Nie Li's response from the school's bathroom. He was holding a giant board with a communication control inscription array on it, about to shut it down when he heard Shen Xiu's next words. "Also, I'm going to have a word with you about those statements you made during class."

Nie Li chuckled nervously. "Come on, I was only doing it for your good. It's normal for friends to be more informal, right?" he argued, hoping to ease the tension.

There was a pause before Shen Xiu hummed in response, "Fine, but you can only use that informal tone in private, not in front of others."

Nie Li was taken aback by her concession. He hadn't expected Shen Xiu to allow him such familiarity, even in private. He'd simply hoped she wouldn't scold him for being too informal during the lecture.

"Guess I'm close to succeeding in my mission," Nie Li thought with a smirk. But then, unexpectedly, his heart started racing. The thought of not wanting their relationship to end, even after the mission was complete, caught him off guard.

He slapped himself mentally.

Don't think with your other head. You're only helping her to get that AI combat style. Nothing more, nothing less.
