"Alright,
Webstar," Mr. Gurney tapped the poster in the meeting room with two other
consultants staring out of the window into the city while Webstar reached out
for the poster. Webstar didn’t read anything written on it and went straight
for his photograph. The blond man watched the photo of him smiling and waving –
which he remembered he had shot two years ago for a different purpose.

"Mr.
Gurney," Webstar sighed. "Did you find this photo in public
domain?"

"Huh?"

"Wasn’t
this supposed to be on our WebTakis?"

"Was
it?" Mr. Gurney stared at an Asian woman standing beside him, handing the
poster to him.

"So
Kim," Webstar said.

"Wait.
I can explain this," she panicked. "This." she tapped on the
paper. "This isn’t public domain, Webstar. Merger – I believe you know
Bull Energy and NGL Network merged which means the photoshoot for WebTakis you
did…."

"Alright,
alright." Webstar again reached for the poster, staring at it for a while.
"Although I think my hair could be done better."

"Sure,"
Kim said.

"Mr.
Gurney," Webstar said. "The deal is done, I suppose. You will have me
on 20th April."

Mr.
Gurney was quick to offer a handshake but Webstar shook his head. "Sticky
fingers. Apologies."

"Oh,"
Mr. Gurney drew his hand back in embarrassment. "No worries, Webstar. I
just hope you will do justice to half a million dollars we're paying you for
one appearance."

"Absolutely
Webstar," another man who had been silent all the time spoke. "Your
performance will leave everyone stunned. After all, how many people get to see
a superhero himself performing for five hundred to a thousand bucks…" he
trailed off realizing Gurney had his eyes on him. "Ah, we should get
going."

"Yes,"
Webstar watched the skyscrapers from the meeting hall. Just like with Gurney,
he didn’t shake hands with him but instead sank into his seat feeling the
weight of a serious mid-life crisis. Once those men were out Webstar brought an
end to his smile which he had forced on his face for the last half an hour.

"Superhero
performing for a thousand bucks, huh?" Webstar rose from his seat.
"Is that what I am now?"

"Webstar,"
Kim came forward. "Don’t mind them. They're business minded freaks. When
they see a superhero, they only see a quick way to raise their stocks."

"I
know…I know. Every one of them."

"After
all, this isn’t very bad."

Webstar
closed his eyes.

"Might
sound harsh but after twenty years of fighting the supervillains you could –
could be –"

"Dead."

She
didn’t speak.

"You
know what, you're right," Webstar swung back. "My back issues aren’t
helping me either. And the web, you know, it is barely more than a kid's semen
who just ejaculated for the first time."

Kim
couldn’t disagree.

"Fuck,"
Webstar said. "I really am what qualifies as a fogey. Now I understand why a-"

"Let
me guess," she interrupted. "Why a thirty five years old man is taken
as an elderly in NFL."

"And
I am fifty. Jeez, why didn’t I get these powers at the age of fifteen or
sixteen?"

"Don’t
stress it out, Webstar. How about we go somewhere in the evening?"

Webstar
came closer to him. "Only if you wear something little more
revealing," he unbuttoned the first button on her shirt. Kim laughed,
slapping her his hand away. "After the dinner, babe. After all, you don’t
get called at midnight to stop a dildo monster."

"Honestly,
I wouldn’t be able to do it either. Good for me that SAA left me out
retired," Webstar then inhaled. "But it is not good for them."

"Not
your fault, honey. As you told me – you didn’t get your powers in your teens,
right?"

"Right.
I am just thinking…"

"Thinking
what?"

"What
if I could pass it down to someone of that age? Someone who can use my
abilities and serve the Superhero Association of America for next thirty
years."

"How
will you find such kid? As you know, kids these days. Uff. Porn, gaming and
more porn if not prostitution."

"There
must be someone," Webstar said. "Must be out there."
