POV Eliza

After Sana, the receptionist, explained the basics of adventuring to us, we looked at the current quests. The quests are separated according to their difficulty, starting with the F-rank ones. They were also called rankfree quests. My three friends went through the E-rank quests while I looked at the F-rank ones.

“Here, look. The usual quests are open again.” <Ken>

"Let's see. 10 bottles with slime fluid, 6 whole bodies of bumper beetles, 3 poison sacs from forest spiders. All quests to eliminate monsters and so-called permanent quests. These parts are always wanted. They serve as alchemical ingredients, as far as I know.” <Lynn>

“Where do you find the monsters? Is the area here so unsafe?” <Eliza>

“No, there are no monsters here. All monsters were eradicated throughout the central empire. There are only some left at the borders or in the mountains. These monsters are in the dungeon.” <Lynn>

"Understand. What else do you have to choose from?” <Eliza>

“There are still quests to collect herbs, mostly medicinal herbs. But to do that you have to go to the forest or to the big river. These tasks cannot normally be completed in one day. Therefore you have to spend the night outside and many adventurers don't want that. The monsters in the dungeon are practically outside the city.” <Lynn>

“I can understand that well. So you're going into the dungeon?" <Eliza>

"Naturally. Come with us!” Ken

“You heard what Sana said. Eliza is a newcomer and should first do the harmless quests. Then she can still join us.” <Lynn>

“Ouch, why are you hitting me again?” <Ken>

“Because otherwise you don’t use your head to think.” <Lynn>

“Leave him alone, Lynn. I do not mind. But I'll start small first. I can then get to know the city better.” <Eliza>

“Then we’ll meet at the Red Deer this evening. I'm looking forward to it, Eliza." <Lynn>

“Good luck you three and come back safely.” <Eliza>

"Naturally. We know what we’re doing.” <Ken>

While the three of them made their way into the dungeon, I looked through the quests for individual tasks that I could already complete. I found a lot of menial work such as warehouse work, helping with renovations, finding lost cats and the like. Heavy physical work that lasts all day was no option for me. But I had a good feeling about searching for lost animals. My skill Sense Presence should serve me well here. The reward was small, but it was enough to provide me with room and food for a day. I picked two straight away and went back to the counter. Here I handed Sana the two pieces of paper.

“Ah, I see. You should be able to complete such tasks. Good luck and see you later.” <Sana>

I took the two pieces of paper and left the guild. Once outside I realized that I didn't even know where I had to go. So I have no choice but to ask. I was somewhat ridiculed for wanting to complete tasks in the city as an adventurer without knowing my way around, but I was still helped. The residents were apparently used to the sight of newcomers and obviously they couldn't be mad at a helpless little girl. This was how my mission to get to know the city began. On the way I got something to eat.

I went to the first place where a cat had escaped. I knocked on the door and a little girl answered it. When I told her I wanted to look for her cat, she thanked me and described her cat and where it was last seen. I then started looking. I searched for over two hours until I found a cat that matched the description. She hid in a box and meowed. Apparently she couldn't get out on her own since she was still very young. According to an inspiration, I gave her some food that I got earlier. Thanks to my animal handling skills, I was able to pick her up. I was lucky and it was the cat I was looking for. I got a note from the girl's mother on my sheet for the guild and went on the second search. The search took much longer because I found several cats, but none of them matched the description. There were many cats in Tyros. It was slowly getting dark and I was about to give up when the cat I was looking for literally ran at my feet. She sat on a wall and meowed heartbreakingly. Apparently she was injured and got easily caught. Since I felt sorry for the cat, I cast the little water magic healing spell on it. She thanked me by licking me. I brought the cat back and then went back to the guild.

At the guild, I went to my desk and found another receptionist there. She greeted me in a friendly manner and took my task slips. After a quick check, she stamped both of them. Then she wrote down the two completed tasks for me and handed me the rewards. There were a total of 4 bronze coins. I already knew that these tasks didn't bring in much money and I was still hoping this morning that I could do more than 2 quests. I'll have to think of something else tomorrow if I want to move forward. Looking for cats wasn't very lucrative. But before I left, I turned to the woman at the counter. Lynn had told me something about it, but I was sure to get more information here at the guild.

“I have another question about the quests. I noticed that there are no monster quests in the tasks for my rank. Why is that?” <Eliza>

“We don’t have any monsters outside of the dungeons. To do this you have to go to the nearby dungeon. That's why I advise you, when you go into the dungeon, to look for relevant search queries beforehand. These requests also have longer times to fulfill them. These requests often hang here permanently. The idea is to collect certain monster parts and bring them here. But let me tell you one more thing. However, there are not corresponding quests for every monster in the dungeon. Some monsters like goblins have no usable parts, so we can't use them any further. That's why there are no quests for it. And there are no monster quests for rank F because you are only allowed into the dungeon with rank E.” Receptionist

“Thanks for your help and see you tomorrow.” <Eliza>

I left the guild and went back to the Red Deer. I had to wait there for my three friends to arrive. They came in the door shortly after sunset. I waved to them and they sat next to me.

“Hello you three. How did it go?” <Eliza>

"Whichever way you take it. We didn't get past the first floor. The only monsters we had were slimes and we had a lot of trouble defeating them. We knew what to expect, but today we really wanted to defeat the slimes. Unfortunately that was a mistake.” <Lynn>

“My arrows were totally ineffective. They just flew through. That sucks.” <Ken>

“At least my magic was very effective. But after I ran out of MP, there was nothing we could do. Ronnen’s sword didn’t work either.” <Lynn>

"I should have learned an attack spell, but my wind spells didn't help. Unfortunately, I can’t do any more magic than that.” <Ken>

“What do the slimes look like? I’ve never seen one before.” <Eliza>

“They look like flat blobs flowing across the ground. They then form a ball and jump towards you. But they are so slow and only do minimal damage that gets stuck in the armor. Towards the end they were just annoying.” <Ken>

“They have already done damage to me because I don’t wear any armor. But the damage was so small that a water healing spell was enough.” <Lynn>

“Tomorrow we should just walk through the slimes until we find the exit to floor 2. Then there are other monsters which are easier to defeat.” Ken

The other two nodded. I would continue to try to get my rank up as quickly as possible. Then I could accompany her. I became more and more curious about the dungeon the more I heard about it.
