With the flip of a page, a new chapter emerges. Let me tell you about the story of the witch and the pond.

Ok, the page I flipped was actually the cover, but let's not fret the small details.

I'm Melissa, I lived in a small mountainside village towards the outskirts of the country. It was located next to a mineshaft, and always had soldiers patrolling the area. The people there were kind and always gave me extra food when I came by. My father was always a hard worker, he took care of both me and Adam all by himself. He was a blacksmith of at least 30 years. Whenever he had free time, he would spend it with us. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him, but I just wish it didn't have to turn out this way.

It all started on that evening that I had been practicing magic.

"Why in the world did you take my wand?! I was just practicing magic." -Melissa
"Because you still haven't finished your damn chores yet. It's like this every time. When will you grow up and stop acting like a child? You're living in the real world. Act like an adult for once!"-Father

Back then, my father had taken my wand from me. It wasn't worth much, but being young and stupid, I couldn't get over it. I got mad at him. Magic used to be one of the things I obsessed over. Something about the way that magic flowed through me always made me calm.

"Shut up! All you ever do is complain about how I didn't do this, or forgot that. Why can Adam do whatever he wants, but I can't??" -Melissa
"Watch your tongue young lady. That is no way to speak to your parents!" -Father
"Oh I know. It's because he's your precious son, and I'm not. I'm sorry for being born a girl! All you care about is finding some fat rich man to-" -Melissa
"THAT'S ENOUGH. Melissa we are going home, now!" -Father

In those moments, I wanted nothing but to have him feel the same way I did about magic... No that would be a lie. I just wanted him to feel pain. I wanted him to give up on controlling me, I wanted him to be so angry that he just couldn't be bothered about it.

"Don't touch touch me!" -Melissa
"What did you just say?" -Father
"If you dare touch me again, you will never see me ever again!" -Melissa
"Melissa I was ju-" -Father
"Save it. I'm leaving. Don't you even think about stopping me." -Melissa

Ahhhh that's enough! I feel so stupid whenever I think back to this. Just why did I say any of this... Bartender, another glass!
Are you sure you want to continue? I wont force you to say anything you don't want to.
Heh, I promised you a story, I'm not going to back out of it. How else am I supposed to pay you back for all of these drinks.
I will respect your decision.
Thanks... Where was I.

Ah, after I had stormed away from my father, I went up the mountain. My father had always warned me not to go up the mountain after the sun had set, but I don't think I cared at that point. At this point, the sun had set, and the full moon had risen.

"I can help you." -???
"Who's there?!" -Melissa
"I can help you take revenge." -???
"W-what do you mean?" -Melissa

By a large oak tree, I had found a beautiful small pond illuminated by the moon's glow. No, it found me.

"All you need to do is bring your brother to me. I will take revenge for you." -???
"Why should I trust you?" -Melissa
"You need not trust me. Just know that I am doing this for your sake." -???
"And what are you going to do with him?" -Melissa
"Sacrifice is required for you're freedom. I'm doing this for you, Melissa." -???
"How do you know my name! Just what are you??" -Melissa

At that moment, I think I was terrified. I wanted to run, but I was frozen in place. I wanted to hear what this voice had to say, I wanted to know why it wanted to help me.

"I am, the spirit of this pond. Bring me your brother tonight, and I will help you. The choice is yours." -'spirit of the pond'
"What? Who are you? Why are you helping me!" -Melissa

But there was no answer. I couldn't think straight. Anger and fear clouded my mind, and revenge seemed to be the only answer. I was lured in by the sweet sounding lies that it spewed. So I began to hatch a plan. I was going to bring Adam to the pond, and so I made my way down the mountain.

When I reached my house, I noticed that my father had been drinking with his friend. It was the second time this month. Normally, he wouldn't even touch so much as the cup, but suddenly, he became a drunk. I hated it. I clearly remember thinking, 'I don't know this man anymore.'

"Henry, I told ya she'd come back." -???
"I told you already, its not like that! Ugh. Melissa, would you like to have dinner?" -Henry
"..." -Melissa
"Looks like she still mad at ya." -???
"Shut it Jerry." -Henry
"She's a good girl. I think its time you told her the truth." -Jerry
"Damnit Jerry, "

I ignored my father, and went straight to Adam's room. I felt like I was in a fight against time. Every moment was a moment they would find out about what I was trying to do.

"Ever heard of knocking?" -Adam
"Adam, can you do a favor for your dear older sister?" -Melissa
"Ew. Why are you talking like that." -Adam
"I'll buy you that sword that you want for your birthday so just shut up and do what I say." -Melissa
"You promise ok? Alright, what do you want." -Adam
"Just come with me on a walk." -Melissa

After I convinced my brother, we left, and I led him up the mountain, towards the pond. The path upwards was covered in mist to the point where I could barely see the path right in front of me. But I was able to hear the voice again, leading me towards the pond.

"Hey Melissa. Where are we headed?" -Adam
"Don't worry about it. We're almost there." -Melissa
"What does that mean. Don't play with me. I'm not a kid anymore!" -Adam

My brother quickly overtook me, and stopped me dead in my tracks. Unfortunately for him, it was just a little too late; We had arrived at the pond.

"Say something Melissa! You're freaking me out." -Adam
"..." -Melissa

I couldn't help but feel like I was possessed. Thinking back, my brother was scared, and I couldn't help but think about what the 'spirit of the pond' would him. I was worried, but I didn't care enough to really think about it.

That's when I heard it's voice again.

"Push him into the lake, and the pact will be complete." -'spirit of the pond'
"Hey Adam, can you hear it?" -Melissa
"What in the world are you saying! Let's just go home Melissa... Melissa? W-what are you doing?!" -Adam

Without a second thought, I pushed Adam into the pond.

"You will be useful." -'spirit of the pond'

I felt like as if I had done something wrong.

"It's not like I killed him or anything... I mean all I did was push him." -Melissa

I felt like crying. I felt like laughing. I was scared, yet I couldn't stop smiling. I was going insane.

I'll be honest. I don't remember much after this. The next thing I remember is waking up on my bed, and Adam walking down the hall as if nothing had ever happened.

How did you like the story Lily?
DY VBA ALFCPZI.
Oh I see, then I'll bring you a happy story next time.

Thanks for reaching the end! Have a cookie.

I started this series because I've always wanted to write a story. I'd always get these ideas that I feel like would make a great story, but I'm never able to get far. So I realized, hey, if I can't write a long story, why not just break them down into short stories!
This series is mostly for fun, I can't guarantee any reliable update schedule, but I will attempt upload one chapter every week.
Any comments for feedback or criticism is appreciated!

See you next week!
