Monster is a strange word. Sometimes it evokes images of a colorful plush puppet teaching children about nutrition. Sometimes it evokes memories of the cruelest person to have ever lived. It's hard to use it without it sounding like a cartoony hyperbole. But we also use it so casually when speaking of criminals and politicians.

Synthia uses it to describe herself.

When Synthia tells you about the kind of day she's had as a grocery clerk, she is definitely trying to provoke a reaction out of you. And that's OK. She's very good at what she does, and you won't notice.

Most of the regulars love her, and you will too.

It is perhaps the fact that she takes advantage of you that she calls herself a monster.

It's when someone who calls herself Felicity starts flirting with her, however, that she must begin to question her use of the word, and what it really means.

Because Felicity is a teratovore.

I really like this story. The world seems really interesting and the main character is really fascinating. The last few chapters have felt a little weird in relations to one character in specific but judging by everything else I've seen so far I trust the authors.

Definitely recommend this, very good urban fantasy.

I will preface this by saying this is a very good story. It is well worth the read for most. The world building is incredible, the alien ways of thinking of the emenates is well construed here too.

The twists and turns never feel unearned and are very well set up.

If you want to read a story about eldritch entities becoming people, this is one of the best ones I have seen yet. It is a very well written story and it respects your time immensely.

Now, as for personal enjoyment... it's not that important but I'll put it in spoilers since I wanna talk a bit of said spoilers, but you can ignore the rest of the review after this point.

I'd rate this 5 stars up until about 2/3rds in. Loved the story, loved how it was progressing up until this point. Hated how the rest of the story went. Maybe 2 stars in this respect.

After chapter 38, the MC is functionally useless and could have just been written out of the story entirely after that, and very little would have been impacted. She was all but killed off.

I am biased, hence why this isn't factoring into my final score, but I loathe tales of people losing power and becoming weak. This is what this story ends up being, but I find most stories I find about eldritch entities are about becoming weak. Personal gripes. This is a very good story. One that isn't for me.
