Tamariel, a former Virtue that fought on the side of Lucifer feels the call of a dying soul and slips through the tiniest crack, and finds herself given a body in Valyrie, whose soul has departed after losing her life. She finds herself with a new lease on life, in a world utterly changed from when she once helped shape it.

Meanwhile, Raine Connors, an associate lawyer at a prestigious firm in the same city is called home for the first time in an age. There she finds out her parent's spiritual beliefs she had brushed aside were more than superstition. Bound by a pact with Heaven as part of their work hunting demons, she is asked to accept an Angel into her body to help investigate and deal with escaping Fallen. Arael, the Principality, joins with her soul, changing both their lives forever, while also bringing some even more unexpected changes to Raine's body.

With the gates of the Abyss cracking open and untold numbers of Fallen slipping out, into an unsuspecting world, these two are bound by a past as they are faced by a most uncertain future. Forces from above and below will make their will known. Can a Fallen find forgiveness? Would they even want to?
