Sixteen-year-old Eita Tagawa is admitted to Kurai High School, an elite private school in Tokyo for those with exceptional gifts and talents. What at first appears to be a normal school turns out in reality to be Eita's worst nightmare -- a cesspool of Japan's most smartest and dangerous students fighting each other to the death in a sadistic game of natural selection.

His only saving grace is a mysterious fifteen-year-old child prodigy called Shika Kuwata who has declared her love for Eita and is a psychopath.
