The Empire is collapsing. The Aldmeri Dominion has declared war on the entirety of Tamriel.

A band of prisoners - an ex-legionnaire named Cyrenius, a Breton mage named Aurianna, and a former Argonian pirate captain named Ajul-Jei - end up imprisoned within the Alik'r desert of Hammerfell. However, following a sinkhole event, the trio discover a large Dwemerian mechanism. In hopes of escape, they activate the mechanism and free the Dwemer from their long absence.

As the trio advance onwards, they discover that their course of actions had only unraveled a small portion of an ancient prophecy told by an Elder Scroll.
