Synopsis

The void of space has always been a point of intrigue for humanity. It's driven us to go to great lengths to reach out to it. After many centuries, we finally touched it. Humanity expanded into the open, endless expanse of first the Sol System and then into the Milky Way galaxy itself. Other species were encountered and Humanity answered the lingering question of whether or not we were alone. After first contact, Humanity and the various Races created the Council. A central government to bring the civilizations together and forge peace across the Milky Way.

A peace that did not last and was shattered by rebellions, war, instability, distrust, and greed. The Council collapsed and factions formed. In the battles leading to its isolation, several systems were destroyed and entire races were wiped out. With no central police force, the galaxy became a festering pit of violence, deceit, and piracy.

The war was known as the 'Galactic Fracture' by many. After the war as the Council's influence crumbled, many people struggled for work. Some became mercenaries, corporate traders, pirates, or basic laborers to support themselves and their families. Due to the dangers of space, the average individual looked for safety within their system and refused to look elsewhere.

However, where there were cowards, there were several brave souls who dared risk the challenge of the void. Merchants, Transporters, Couriers, Escorts, Miners. For every scared soul there were four more willing to race outwards into the nothing, chasing dreams, wishes, hopes, and the impossibility of something more than the boring life stuck on some random planet.

One of those people is an man named John. A man who likes to remain hidden and who takes pride in his small, low threat jobs. Well, usually. His last job turned out to be bigger than he was told. After exiting a jump, he was ambushed and his ship was damaged heavily, leaving him stranded on the planet Louxier Seven. A desolate forging world with a pitiful shipyard that would take months to get the repairs done for him, and would leave him in crippling debt afterwards.

John had accepted his fate and elected to work part-time locally while waiting for the repairs when he finds himself visited by a strange woman. A woman with a job.

This book is a side-project. Updates will be irregular. If it gains traction, I'll give it more focus.
